OFFICIAL RU/FSU GAME THREAD

We were in this game even though our guards played poorly, thiam didn't do much, Duke missed most of the second half with foul trouble, and mike Williams had a off night on offense. Eugene and Freeman played well. We can do better. Once the young guys learn from this and move on I can see us in every game we play. I am disappointed we lost but we belonged out there and went toe to toe with a good team. Things are looking up.

Did u see the injury?
which one? The one where he "got hit in the face" lol..or the one where he couldn't walk and then came right back in 2 mins later after after having the trainer roll his leg while he he sat there with zero discomfort on his face? He played like Nigel going to the rim 2nd half. sorry..like him but that was not tough - strong ball.

Exactly. Don't know if it's the injury, but Walker should not be able to get that shot over Freeman. Lack of a rim protector hurts. Expect a lot of pick and roll in our future.
If Freeman would step back to be nearer the rim, Walker wouldn't have such an easy shot. Went right around him twice and he tried to swipe at the ball instead of defending. Might be the injury, hard to tell.

Don't know if anyone noticed, but during the last 3 min. or so, we needed 3's bad. So, the ball goes to Thiam, where he is open, this guard for FSU comes running to him, fakes the block and Thiam pulls down the ball and passes it off. HOW IN THE WORLD CAN YOU BE 6'9" AND BE INTIMIDATED BY A LITTLE 6'2"(at best) GUARD!

Okay...he faked an injury....lol

Did you see how well he played before the injury?

For what it is worth, both the Massey rankings and the Sagarin rankings have FSU ranked higher than all the Big Ten teams except MSU, Purdue, and Minny. If they have any validity at all then what we have learned tonight is that we have a legitimate shot at most of the teams in the league, especially at home. Hopefully a competitive and fun season ahead.

The low post players for Rutgers don't move their feet, they lean. Shack is the biggest culprit of this, he plays very soft. For a guy that big, it's inexcusable. Doesn't block out on rebounds, and if jumps, it's imaginary, because his feet never leave the ground. lol

We lost because of sloppy play and turnovers. Corey needs to slowing down, drive and dish. Every time he drove in he was blocked or fell on the floor. Cant have that out of a junior point.

Props to eugene.

We Lost because 3 of our scorers did not play well...Williams, Geo and Sanders.

Correction...Sanders scored well but struggled with other parts of his game tonight.

3 to 12 steals, 14 to 9 TO's, and 7 to 14 assists. ballgame.

FSU is a Tourney team....even with those disadvantages we hung tough...plus we had 3 scorers with bad games.

FSU has a lot of length and that made it difficult at times.

Corey had 20 on 7 of 17 and 4 bounds....he played well until we needed his D to stop Walker....not.

but he also played 36 mins....so my guess a bit tired there at the end...

20 points...I did not know. I stand corrected.
On the other hand...too many turnovers when I was watching.

yes...all true.. we didn't embarrass and repped the league and ourselves well. but dammit lol.

Seriously? I thought the exact opposite.
Let me know when you think Omoruyi will score 22 again.

Nice game by Eugene. He's improved. I'm sure we'll see some similar games from him going forward.

But Baker, Thiam, and Williams combined for 13.

And we had way too many turnovers and empty possessions when we needed composure down the stretch in the second half.

Yes, but those are the norm. Eugene was the exception.

Not as worried about losing Freeman next year with Eugene playing like this. They are similar in some respects as undersized 4s but IMO Eugene is quite a bit tougher and more opportunistic and I like his fire.

You always hear about players who have a “nose for the ball”...he’s that.

A Frontline of him, Carter and Doucoure with Baker, Mathis, Kiss, Thiam, and hopefully Sanders in the backcourt looks bright.

This was the first real test for Geo and Doucoure so honestly I'm not surprised to see them struggle. Florida State is one of the longest teams we'll face too. Thiam needs to start pulling the trigger more, and the team should have him come off screens for open looks. Eugene looked terrific and has definitely earned more minutes. Souf was disappointing again even though he got screwed on the phantom call (he turned it over and committed a foul in a five second span when he first entered). Corey played decently but still too out of control, feel like I say that a lot. Freeman played really well.

It would really be great to get a win in this stretch of tough games... Tonight was the best shot but onto Minnesota.
