ohio paper--RU acting like a BIG school

Very nice!

It will take time, but I think these 2 hires (AD and coach) will eventually be huge in changing the national and state perception of Rutgers football.

It is a VERY EXCITING TIME to be a Rutgers football fan!

We catch a lot of flack cause being the new guy is easy but I never hear anything about big10 standards when it comes to the likes of Illinois and Purdue. Why?

We have more faith in Rutgers turning it around than say the Illini or Purdue. Whatever happens with Rutgers, Purdue will continue being Purdue. They can't help themselves. With all the BTN money those schools get, they still can't get their act together---and I like Purdue's coach.

Urban Meyer: "I love Chris Ash. He was an impact hire. He’s done a marvelous job being co-coordinator of the defense. He’s one of the best coaches I’ve ever been around.”

It moved.

I really am sad to see him go. He tightened up out defense right away and even though he and Fickell have the "co" title everyone knows Ash has been making the defense calls on gameday. I have faith Urban will find a good replacment, but it takes time to adjust to a new coach.

I cannot let that go by without a comment. Illinois alum and fan, NJ resident and Rutgers fan (spouse on staff) -

You do know that Illinois played in the National basketball title game 10 years ago and played in two BCS bowls between 2001 and 2008. Right now, the two major sports are a cluster xxxx. But, like Rutgers, Illinois is changing AD's and will quite possible change football coaches in a year. If the basketball coach misses the NCAA for a 3rd straight year, he will be updating his resume. Until last year, Illinois had not missed 2 consecutive NCAA's since ~1990, when the school was on probation. Even with the current cloud over the program, basketball attendance remains over12 or 13K.

Purdue's football team is in the dumps, but the basketball team is respectable, in fact it is #2 in the current Kenpom ratings.

I think Pres Barchi did a great job in moving the RU athletic department forward, but I think there should be some substantive production on the field before RU fans look down at other B1G schools.

He should strongly consider keeping Campanile. He has strong ties in NJ and is quite competent, and it should be done quickly as he can be extremely useful with recruiting while Ash is with OSU.

That's great information but I was strictly referring to the football programs.
