OK, did we just have a small earthquake in Central Jersey at 1:28pm?

Damn. Cable guys have been digging up my lawn all day. I didn't hear/feel anything other than what they're doing.

Barnegat PD:" We are experiencing some minor seismic activity and we are investigating same. We will update further as we gather more info".

Sounds like some flyboys are flying up the NJ coast supersonic. Sonic Booms from AC to Long Island. WWIII? Check for mushroom clouds again...

Those darn ancient aliens. News is saying that the USAF is denying that it was them. I was shaking last year from the sonic boom of a meteor.

perhaps it's the sound of Atlantic City teetering on the verge of collapse

From Notify NYC:

Notification issued 1/28/16 at 3:19 PM. New York City is aware of unconfirmed reports of an earthquake in the New York City / New Jersey area. The New York City Emergency Management has consulted the US Geological Survey and the Earth Observatory at Columbia University. Neither has identified any seismic activity at this time. New York City Emergency Management will continue to monitor the condition and issue updates as necessary.

Most reports are now that it was a sonic boom, coming from the area around Hammonton NJ.

Some people claiming their homes shook violently and felt it anywhere from 6-8 times over a 40 minute or so time period.

Jaw saw on ABC news 7 that McQuire AFB says they were not doing any training and do not have any planes capable of making sonic booms...bizzare.

Might not be since it seems to be all over the shore but the Tinton Falls OEM page just posted this

NWS Earle is disposing of ordnance today. They notified us ahead of schedule, but technical issues delayed us posting info. We apologize

Gary, Fuller, and Walker all announcing their comittment to Rutgers one after another?

But if it's shaking homes this far away, what the heck is happening closer. Just texted my son who lives and works in Tinton Falls. Waiting to hear back. Of course Earle is so big it could be happening closer to Freehold or even Neptune.

The psychology of this board would make for one hell of a graduate thesis.

USGS says "sonic boom".

I have no idea why you guys are arguing about NWS Earle "disposing of ordnance".

Notification issued 1/28/16 at 4:21 PM. New York City Emergency Management has confirmed with the United States Geological Survey that the previously reported "earthquake activity" was a sonic boom from an aircraft near the town of Hammonton, New Jersey and was NOT an earthquake.

Apparently they're having the same thing now down in DC - a newschopper got this footage before it abruptly went off the air:

I thought it was interesting that McGuire doesn't have any aircraft capable of producing a sonic boom. I guess they don't have a fighter wing.

Transport and air refueling.

There used to be a Nat Guard fighter wing there, back in my day, but it would appear that unit no longer exists.

What McGoo says about their own inventory is irrelevant. Lots of aircraft from facilities all over the region come to use the ranges in Burlington County.

Channel 7's weather radar picked up a blip at the time of the booms..don't know what it was though... Very interesting.

Reports are coming out from various places (military, USGS) that they don't know what caused the booms. It's bullshit of course, since radar would have picked it up. I'm okay with the military saying they were doing things, but IMO there is little doubt that they know the cause. Here's the link to the NJ.com article.
