Orlando Timeshare

I bough my timeshare at the Atlantis for 60k 9 years ago. Taxes are around 1500 a year so I'm Into it for about 73,500. In those 9 years I have averaged at least four weeks vacation(to top resorts) a year by simply trading in that one week. This year my family will go to Scottsdale for almost 5 weeks off that one exchange. So in 9 years I've gotten at least 35 weeks vacation for a family of 5 for approximately 2,100 a week. How's that not value?

Not saying the timeshare didn't work for you or others, but remember that you're posting this reply on a thread started by a timeshare owner that "rarely gets a chance to use it" and is advertising a month and a half on Rutgers Rivals. There's a reason why timeshare salesman make used car salesman look like honest, upstanding businessmen.

Given 24 hours, all of us could find a hundred people to buy an average car or diamond ring for a $1.

Not an asset? If you like timeshares, fine. But saying a timeshare is no different from a car or engagement ring is just silly.

I'm not sure what you are arguing? I'm sure I could find a 100 people to buy a 1 week timeshare at Disney for $1 as well.

Are you saying that cars or engagement rings are a better investment then timeshares?

for those who know about timeshares what is the length of the typical agreement? Are you part of it for life or a specific period of time. As a non-timeshare owner it would scare me to contractually obligated to pay maintenance fees for life. If that is the case, what happens when you die? Is your heir required to pay these fees too?

Well, keep in mind that we purchased when our kids were younger and now they are all over 22. We also spent a number of years traveling so much for football. My 6 weeks available amounts to 3 years worth of time. Over the years, I have used it 7 times for a total of 10 weeks. Sometimes just 2 of us and sometimes up to 10 of us. I have rented it out for a total of 6 weeks. I'm in for just over 40k.

But now with 4 grown children, them and their friends and in the future, families will be able to use it as well.

I only posted it here because I know a number of people on this site may be interested in an in-expensive yet quality place for vacation rather then me posting it on criaglist.

4real- yes, stuck with the maintenance for life :/

Except that you couldn't. Someone in this very thread said there were many timeshares up for bid at $1 and not moving. So they couldn't find one buyer, let alone 100. There's a reason that timeshare cos have to use aggressive, obnoxious sales tactics and give away free vacations just to get people to listen.

Fair enough, OP, I was just having a little fun, not trying to hassle you for posting. I think it's cool that people offer these things on here. Maybe the two sides of the argument can agree that the timeshare is always an attractive option ... when someone else owns it.

I know several people who have taken advantage of all the extras they toss in when you buy Hilton or Disney "club" deals. Then it comes down to what they actually bought.. with none of the upfront extras.. and they soon think about selling... except they are not competing with Disney and Hilton who are still building and selling units with all the extra points and goodies.

Anyone thinking about buying should give a long hard look at those who are currently selling such units.
