I know this guy Holtman did well at Butler, taking over a system he already was working with, but wow! Was this in the least bit expected from them this season? Lots of experience back or an influx of serious talent AND the coaching change? Thanks!

Give 100% of the credit to Holtman. I mean im pretty sure he only had 7 players under scholarship when he took over the team in july. Does help that he had arguably the best player in the big 10 return from an injury riddled season last year

I’d say it was a combination of talent and the HC
Matta was a good coach but back problems took away some of his ability to do the job right
Thad Matta had the Buckeyes one of the top programs for a long time, but declined after the 2012-13 season
Still was a 20+ game winner till last season’s 17-15 record under him that made OSU and him agree to part ways because of the program starting to decline because his health was hurting his recruiting and teams performance
( my opinion)
Holtmann inherited a pretty good program on a downward spiral, but it did have the type of talent to win under the right coach
Also helped OSU's Class of 17 had three 4 stars out of 3 commits

We beat them in the Big Ten tournament last year. It's not like they have big impact freshman either.

Give him lots of credit but not 100%.

People seem to forget that Keita Bates-Diop only played nine games last season. He is one of the ten most efficient players in the country this season. He's shooting like he did as a freshman.

Tonight wasn't his most efficient game offensively but he was ferocious on defense.

OSU didn't have anyone doing what Diop is providing this season

Okay was wondering if they were missing anyone last season. Thanks!

they had talent last year but the team was a mess and so was Matta, bad attitude and turmoil around their coach. They mailed it in by the time they got to the Big 10 tourney game against RU. That being said no one saw them going 5-0 and most expected this team to be battling it out in the last 6 if not last 4. They have exceeded expectations big time and Holtmann has to be considered the fave for Big 10 coach of the year

If you have talent and shooters and a decent coach the league allows you to move up...Purdue, Northwestern and Minnesota all made leaps in the last few years from the bottom 4 of the league to the top 5

Thanks BAC. We can't get shooters here fast enough, ugh, painful the wait but it's gonna be fun once we got'em!

tonight was painful, the RAC was packed , such a shame

It is, however, I think the fans are coming back - and have despite the 2 ugly home losses - because there is HOPE and that's a huge step in the right direction as far as attendance goes.
