OT: 2022 NY Giants Season & Post Season Game Thread

Umm, the plays called and how they were executed. You don’t follow the team week to week.

It was so plain vanilla. They didn't use Hurts at all in the running game which is the main reason the Eagles offense did so well this year.

Yup. And he was totally hesitant to run on many occasions, which he should have been. Meanwhile you got Dabol, who I like, calling fake FG and onside kicks. Okay…🙄

Defense has done a very solid job today.

I’m fine with this knowing that we’re 99.999% locked into Minnesota next week. That’s a winnable game.
Now let's go party on a boat this week in Florida.

UMmmmmm... well......maybe not.

Is that because of the rest or because they typically aren't the better team in the playoff game? This gives the teams that don't get a bye week a chance to rest up the same way the teams that are the 1 seeds (and previously 1 & 2 seeds) get a chance to rest up. Plus having to deal with 6 road games in 7 weeks in order to get to the Super Bowl isn't exactly a picnic.
It is because once you stop, it is hard to start again. The Giants didn't exactly go in anyway playing their best ball. If you want to sit Barkley and any injured guys great. To gut the lineup from your 3rd string QB starting on down the line is just ridiculous! If they were that soft sit one or two a game for the last several weeks. To gift a hated rival a win and the #1 seed is pathetic.

Good fortune favors teams that try to win every game!

I have no problem with resting players as I see the risk of injury outweighing any speculative gain from playing. Imagine the hue and cry if a starter or two were injured against the Eagles. As an adjunct, the Giants (and the other NFL teams) got a lot of film on Giant backups going against primarily starters for one of the NFL's best teams. That info might be helpful going into planning during the off season.

Min is the worst 13 win team of all time, and are in the running for the worst team with a winning record in recent years. I'd be surprised if the Giants didn't win that game.
I’m not buying that narrative. Now you can argue that they are weakened by injuries and I’ll buy that, but the national sports media has been pushing the close win thing like crazy. So what? They still won the games.

So you’re picking the Vikings to win Sunday ?

Honestly I don’t give a sh$t and I don’t gamble. I’m more concerned about the status of my team’s QB’s shoulder. I just think it’s comical that people are dismissing a 13 win team.

Minn won their games for a reason- you just don’t win that many games on luck.
With that said- Giants have a very good chance to beat them.

Giants interior game is getting scary now
Tibby won a game himself

Look, I get not downplaying the opponent if you are the Giants or a fan, but the Vikings are not a great team.

And yes they did just win games by luck. They are a .500 team that got lucky to win 13. If you look at the history of the NFL, good/great teams regularly outscore their opponents by a lot over the coarse of a season, the Vikings scored less than their opponents and got 13 wins, that is unheard of. By any measure they are one of the worse 10+ win teams of the past decade.

Here's one breakdown to get to the point, https://www.footballoutsiders.com/dvoa-analysis/2023/bills-finish-no-1-2022-dvoa-ratings

from the article:
We can't finish out our look at the 2022 DVOA ratings without one last look at the crazy season for the Minnesota Vikings. (Well, not one last look. They made the playoffs, so we'll look at them some more in the future too.)

The Vikings finish the year with -13.8% DVOA, which moves them just ahead of the Carolina Panthers and into 27th place for the season. The Vikings end up with the ninth-lowest DVOA ever for a playoff team

The Vikings have the second-worst DVOA ever for a team with at least 11 wins. The 2012 Colts were the only other team to win at least 11 games and put up a DVOA below -10%.

Minnesota was outscored on the season despite going 13-4, which had never happened before. Thus, the Vikings have the largest difference in modern NFL history between Pythagorean projection (based on points scored and allowed) and actual wins.

Not sure but I don’t think
Thibs
Ojulari
Lawrence
Williams
Mckinney
have played a full game when all are healthy.

Not dismissing it . This is a great matchup for the giants as A 6 seed and they have a real chance to pull an upset.

It's the NFL. Everyone has a chance to pull an upset.

Isn't there an Eagles thread you can start somewhere? Or maybe take a ride over to Lincoln and plan out how you're going to throw bottles at opposing fans in the parking lot. .

Wife and kids are away this weekend.
Do I hop on a plane?

$400 to fly out late Friday
Game tickets only $100

Note - I hate going to away games.
Maybe it's just a Rutgers thing but the idea of a trip back after a loss is the worst.

A little hostile there and out of line with the intent of my post. Clown post from you with the same Giants fan BS: “Eagles fans are mean! And we’re so virtuous!” Grow up.

I screwed it up and picked a Sunday flight.
No wonder it was so cheap.
3x as much flying back Monday.

Duluth is only a 2.5hr drive.

Unless of course you've had a bottle thrown at you in the parking lot of an Eagles game......and no where did I say that Giants fans are virtuous. Soley based on my own personal experience. Just not worth the risk for me ever going to Lincoln again.

Fair enough. By why would you assume that I throw bottles at people based on the NFL team that I root for?

Coming into this season I was thinking the DL could be a real strength of the team. But I was maybe overestimating the impact of a rookie, and Williams and Ojulari have battled injuries much of the season. I thought, while good, especially Dexter who has been a beast, the impact was a little underwhelming.

Going into the playoffs, with Thib's asserting himself more as an impact player, and hopefully getting Williams and Ojulari(not sure where he is at in terms of health), hopefully we see the DL be that strength that I was looking for all season.

Outside of QB, If I had to pick one position group to excel in all of football, it would be the DL.

Eagle’s game is the only place I ever seen officers posted around the visiting team family section.
But, it seems that some of those teams out there in Cali have decided to take the crown away from the Eagle fans.

I agree with your point that the "Minny is the worst 13 win team ever" narrative has very much snowballed.

But this is a NYG thread. The fact that you don't give a shit about our prospects is maybe a signal that this thread might not be for you.

I was commenting on Minnesota's season, which is pertinent to the discussion and thread. That I don't care to make predictions or who wins in this case is irrelevant to my point.

But you being more worried about your QB's shoulder? Definitely irrelevant in this thread.

Just talking playoff football. If it bothers you, feel free to put me on ignore. I won't be offended.
Nah, I won't ignore you, but don't get all pissy pants when Giant fans in a Giants thread tell you to kick rocks.
