OT: 2024 NJ HS Football Season…

Obviously never been to a hills Ramapo game. Like most rivalries, year to year idiots on both sides. Last year, I actually went to that game for first time in a decade. Ramapo players were acting like such fools that one of their best players who I know well actually apologized to my wife.
Ramapo also illegally recruits. Alot of players dont live in district. Granted hills used to do it as well, not sure if they still do.

So your opinion of the Wayne Hills is based on a coach who hasn’t coached at the school in like 15 years? Makes sense
No. Based on the fan base. That was just one example. Nastiest fans around.

Was at the Rumson vs Wall game. The QB for Rumson is very good and a possible MLB draft pitcher. They pretty much ran a no huddle the entire game. I don't think I've ever seen that in HS.

WELL. Bernards head coach certainly didnt bite his tongue here haha.

"I've got to be honest, man, we got out-recruited. Write it. I mean that," Simoneau said. "I'm being very honest. It's not sour grapes. The NJSIAA ain't gonna do nothin' about it. Actions speak louder than words, so they sent a loud message to every one of us, and we gotta start recruiting at the public schools, because the other public schools are allowed to. Back to the drawing board for some of what we do, but you can't be upset about it, because they did it. I doesn't take anything away from the kids, they played a good game today.

"Give credit to their coaching staff because those kids, they were only here for six games and look how well they played. Credit where credit's due, because that's not easy. They were able to take a group of kids not from (Newark) and get them to gel at the right time of year for the second time in a row. The state doesn't stop it, so it's what other public schools have to do, too."

He’s right. People complain about the private schools but public are getting in on the action too. Then you have a team like St. Benedict’s that doesn’t just recruit the state or country, they recruit the World pulling in superstars from countries like Ghana. Nobody will ever be able to beat St. Benedict’s in soccer.

I was there as well, kid is an absolute gamer... 3 year starter, all time yards leader at RFH. They run a complex offense, he goes to 2nd and 3rd read at times. RFH has been dominant this year... hope I don't jinx them, but they've been unreal all season. Fewest points they scored all season was 26 against RBC, 11-0.

How does the school like Rumson do a year-end in year out?

Is it the feeder program?
Everyone in town buying in?
Kids staying public to play be their friends instead of going private / parochial?

I see people are complaining when the city schools win championships after the schools have city kids transfer back from parochial schools or city kids transfer to Shabazz.

No one complains when Haddonfield wins all the time with those Cherry Hill/ Pennsauken kids or all of those regional schools with kids from multiple towns win.

it really is incredible... i moved down here in 2016... the team has been so damn good every single year since i've been here. The coaching is very very good as far as HS coaching goes. The kids work their a$$es off, all summer at the field/weight room. The thing that blows me away is the buy in, they had 80 kids dressed on the sideline against Wall... a group 2 school with 80 kids on the roster.

I love it

My neighbors kids play / played for Colts Neck, and it’s a roller coaster w them

One year good, one year bad
Rinse / repeat

Schools like Rumson that are consistently elite are to be commended

Nah man. I complain all the time about south jersey recruiting. Just as I do with ramapo and old tappan. South jersey public schools might as well be playing in non-public B with how rampant recruiting is there.

But I mean the whole state knows what shabazz is doing and theyre publicly making a mockery of it by going on podcasts etc talking about their recruiting.

Public school recruiting is pathetic and ruins the integrity of the game. Old tappan falls in that bucket as does ramapo and they couldnt be further from being city schools. Its wrong no matter who does it.

Now shabazz having kids from clifton, orange, east orange, montclair just to name a few is just making a mockery of the game.

Also morris knolls falls in this bucket too. Theyve gutted morris hills. Every ounce of talent from morris hills is at knolls. Again, not exactly city schools.

If RFH football follows their wrestling team you can bet there are some “transplants” in the line up.

interesting that with all this recruiting going on the coach at Elizbeth was fired early this season for having his son transfer in from Cranford. High school sports (at least in NJ) are becoming the wild wild west.

There was more to that story. Recruiting happened to be the excuse

I hope you’re right! RFH has been dominant all season but I don’t know much about shabazz. I saw they lost to weequahic in their annual Thanksgiving game but assumed they were resting starters before the state finals.

RFH is due. Lost last 2 years at Rutgers in very close games. Their quarterback is a 3 year starter stud. Gotta get it done this year

Shabazz didnt rest anyone and their starting qb got hurt in the game yesterday. But fully healthy or not RFH is gonna bludgeon them up front. Shabazz often gets away with an extremely light box because theyre so much bigger than everyone they play up front usually. Rumsons just gonna run it down their throat between the tackles and shabazz’s offense is not good. If inside zone and iso is shut down, they have no offense.

Shabazz was more worried about their stupid Thanksgiving Day game than their state finals and that’s going to cost them next week. Instead of resting their players, they went ball deep vs a Weequahic team that did everything they could to get some Personal Fouls and Ejections out of Shabazz so that they couldn’t play next week.

This backward mentality that the meaningless Thanksgiving game is more important that a chance to make history in the state championship game is hilariously sad.

BTW,

THIS IS THE MOST HORSE 💩 THING THAT NJ COM HAS EVER DONE. Charging friends, family, and fans to watch championship finals that 1. Was free to watch for years, 2. Other states show these games on their cable channels is the biggest money grab in high school sports…

And there’s lots of money grabs in high school sports.

They need to make money so while it sucks I dont blame them. They just ended their print edition for money purposes.

Yeah that game was nasty. Was gonna go but since it was raining watched on nfhs. The NFHS announcer was going in on shabazz. Kept saying things like, “games arent won on social media”. “Shabazz OC needs to get off social media and start getting the plays in on time.” I guess theres some animosity there.

Also, while everyone knows it, probably not best for him on the broadcast to be calling out that basically half of shabazz’s roster doesnt live in newark and they gotta “hit the portal” heavy again this offseason

He is one of the worse high school parasites around, making money off the kids with his subpar broadcasts and worse mic and camera skills.

And I got called out for saying that the Thanksgiving games are now meaningless and the team should just focus on their state championship game. Was told that I don’t understand how important this game is to South Newark. Haven’t heard his reply to me saying that I don’t think that nobody gives a rats ass 35 years later about the Shabazz teams I played for went 2-1 vs Weequahic on Turkey Day.

High school football used to be about tradition, history and a good in town feeder program.
Players at Montclair high were always equally black/white and were like gods to us little kids, playing on the same field as them was a dream.
Yup, I’m old and that’s gone.
Even West Essex where Kyk played, the kids jump to Seton Hall or Delbarton if they’re any good.
Montclair legend Aubrey Lewis’s grandson Bubba Lewis who is an excellent high school QB, up and left his teammates and coaches for a school in Florida to play his senior year.

Montclair-Bloomfield on Thanksgiving was an annual tradition.

North Jersey Public Schools are so much weaker then the South Jersey Publics....I know Old Tappan Won Group 3 but

South will win Groups 1,2,4 and 5 in dominating fashion

Cedar Grove looked like a Pee-Wee team against Glassboro in Group 1 blowout @ Giants Stadium

Union City looked like a Jr. Pee-Wee team against Toms River North in Group 5 blowout @ Giants Stadium

Rumson will beat up Shabazz in Group 2 tomorrow and Winslow will blow out Phillipsburg in Group 4 @ Rutgers

Yeah, but can we be honest here? Alot of south jersey publics operate as privates with how rampantly they recruit. Glassboros RB who ran for 400 yards doesnt even live in glassboro, he lives in hammonton and transferred in this year for example. A good chunk of the TRN kids dont live is toms river as well.

Pair that with the fact there arent any private schools in south jersey taking the talent out of publics leading to the publics naturally having more talent.

If all the kids in north jersey stayed in district and there were no privates, north jersey would slaughter the south.

Kids with talent these days in the northern half of the state often go to Bergen Catholic, Don Bosco, St. Joes, St. Peter's, or Depaul.
