OT: Anyone’s kid going through the college admissions process this spring?

Slap some lipstick on that kid and color his hair purple, change his name to "Denim", get some 23&Me paperwork to show 005 % Native American blood and he's golden

Not really. 34 ACT isn’t good enough for those schools. The 4.0 GPA doesn’t tell the whole story. Is that unweighted or weighted? What were the AP scores? There is a lot of grade inflation going on. Especially at private schools. I don’t know what $30M AAR biz means. But it sounds like his parents did it for him or her. Admission officers can smell BS miles away.
His personal statement he posted on a seperate X post read like rambling braggadocio, too.

Lol @ "Denim"

AP courses should not be graded at a 5.0 scale. That is a ridiculous and a scam. Has caused crazy grade inflation and has penalized kids that are late bloomers.

Colleges look at unweighted GPA 1st. They look at AP classes 2nd. Top schools will want to see AP test scores. My daughter was super pissed that she got a B+ in AP class and a 5 on the exam. The teacher didn’t like giving out too many As. That’s the downside of public schools.

data for my local high school's 2024 graduating class

Average GPA 3.856
Average SAT 1281
Average ACT 27

This at a very highly rated NJ public HS. Grade inflation is off the charts. There's no way people with GPAs of 3.9 in my days would score only 1281 on the SATs ( and mind you that SAT scores are about 100 points higher than in my years).

GPA-inflating AP classes of today are little or nothing more than honors classes of 15-20 years ago and the college prep classes of my generation.

AP has same issues of any national exam. Some teacher are concerned about teaching the material, some only teach to do well for the test, others teach what they want and don’t give two craps about test outcome.

Something seems off here, by all accounts this kid is top notch
Also, not sure why he didn't apply to public Ivy's (Cal Berkeley, Michigan, UNC, UF, UVA), other highly rated schools (ND, Duke, Stanford), and mini Ivies as well
There seem to be quite a few similar to this. There was one kid that got a job PHD level at Google out of high school and they wanted him earlier at 13 years old. SAT 1590 GPA 4.4 didn’t get into any Ivy and most of the Univ California colleges rejected him. It’s looks like a crap shoot.

There is always more to the story. The 4.0 GPA and 1580 SAT score is not a unicorn anymore. That’s the take away. There is a decent pool of students that have those stats. It’s crazy how many overachievers are out there. Especially in NJ.

My son had a perfect 36 ACT, 1 B, 2 B+s, the rest As or A-s (all 4 years) was class president and played football. He didn’t get into Princeton. Was wait listed at Michigan and Cornell and got into USC but only with a spring of 2026. I was pissed off at Michigan wait listing him but furious at USC offering him a delayed admission. I told my son to tell USC to go F themselves.

I graduated HS when GS was coach the first time, lol, and even then, you got an extra point added when your GPA was calculated. And for many exams, most of the kids who took it passed. US History was one I think 80%+ of my class got at least a 4 and majority got 5s. And this was a public HS, probably top 100 in NJ in most ratings but not necessarily 50.

Life is too short. I told my daughter that she may not get into her top choice (she didn’t) but she’ll go to a great school and have a great experience. I’m sure your son will be ok settling for Columbia or Dartmouth.

Public Schools not as tough as used to be for the great GPA, in my opinion

Ehhh… delayed admission or not, I’d probably opt for USC

Great school
Awesome area
Tremendous weather
Elite education
Fantastic alumni Association
Worldwide reach
Legendary football
Smoking hot women

It’ll be worth it when he’s sitting in the Colosseum chanting “ fight on “ with his classmates

He’s choosing between Columbia, Dartmouth and Williams (where he can play football). We’re having a conversation with the Dartmouth coach when we visit next week.

Summit sent 2 female lacrosse players to Dartmouth last year. I think one female basketball player the year before.

Speaking to the abundance of qualified applicants at top schools…
The unmitigated hubris on that kid is astounding. Met multiple self-made billionaires with less ego combined. It's possible that may have turned off some schools, because the resume alone looks good on paper. But unfortunately for him, the elite schools are rife with elite applicants.

His original post got 25 million views. The personal statement 36 million. The more he posts, the more I think this was all a ploy to get views

Yeah I freakin hate this kid.

Generally speaking, I don’t trust people who use the word ‘ostensibly.’ I don’t know why and it’s probably not fair, but in my experience, it’s never failed me.

I think unfortunately a lot of Gen Z men have been indulged by the media into thinking "people on social media giving me attention" is a career and which, is why it's so unsurprising that half of Gen Z women in relationships are not with Gen Z men.

Some other kid is rightfully taking his spot eager for opportunities at Ivies, not eager to get likes or reacts.

Don't disagree on men, but isn't it even more so Gen Z women?

If I had long blond hair and decent tits, I'd be riding the "do cool stuff in a halter top" wave until it crashed, too. 😁

Definitely some but women seem to be attending college at the same if not better rates than before, which isn't the case for men.
