OT Aroldis Chapman 105 MPH last night

The word has always been that biomechanically it is impossible, and the torque necessary to throw at such speeds would tear ligaments and tendons. Whenever I see these pitches at 102+, I think some gun shenanigans are going on.

Yankees need to keep Betances and offload everyone else so they can rebuild their system. NYC is not a destination for free agents since George left us.

Miller should stay.
BTW, did anyone catch them talking during the broadcast last night about the Yanks putrid batting average with runners in scoring position ? Anyone who watches them often enough would have known they were near the bottom. They claimed that there was only one team in MLB with a sorrier record in such situations. Anybody ?
Maybe it's something in the New York water.

While I'm guessing you're inferring it's the other NY team, I wouldn't have been surprised if the answer was Atlanta or Philadelphia.

This is the year you can get a king's ransom for RP like the Yankees have. Chicago and Washington are two teams that will pay up for one at the deadline. Time to unload and bring up the kids.

Mets have been terrible all year with RISP. There record when they hit home runs is something like 42-14 and their record when they don't is like 5-25.

1. What exactly is a king's ransom these days ? And how long before any of it has as positive an affect on the Yanks chances of winning ball games as what they're trading away ?
2. I've looked high and low in the Yanks minor league system and I really don't see many kids that are ready to be brought up to the Bigs.
3. Most importantly: how exactly do the Yankees win any games with Nick Goody or Chasen Shreve closing for them ?

Chapman is a free agent this year. If you don't think you can win, get something back for him and try to sign him over the winter.

How'd Nova look last night? Linescores show he did his job of 6 innings.

Actually like the starters we have, but CC falling off again. I think we should go for Rich Hill. Game is way too easy for the Yankees if they only need to play 6 innings.

Good questions. I think that this is a year where there are several teams that are close to the WS and need relief pitching and the Yankees have the best relief corp available. I could see the Cubs making a big offer for Miller and they have a bunch of good young players to offer ( I don't like Schwarber though... I hope that the Yankee interest is smoke and mirrors.)

Yankees farm system is pretty bad for near term players. It remains to be seen if the guys they signed in the international draft a few years ago pan out. However, if you are mailing it in for this season, why not bring some kids up and see what they got. Maybe catch a shooting star like Shane Spencer.

If they sell, the Yanks are going to suck. No getting around it. In the end, they need to get better and the only way is to take a chance and get good young players. Otherwise, they are just going to be mediocre forever. Free agency just saddles teams with enormous contracts that kill them on the back end Bite the bullet this year and take some hopefully short term pain and become good again.

He looked pretty good for 6 which is definitely a shock to me because I picked him up on my fantasy team this week as a two start pitcher. (24 pts).
One down and one to go.

Amazing to me to see a guy throwing 105 mph, but also amazing to see batters turning on those pitches too. I don't give a rat's a$$ about it being straight or flat.

Playing in college, seeing the difference between 85-90 was quite shocking. Then a guy comes in bringing it at 93-94 was vicious. I can't imagine 105.

That was my first thought. Yankees "fix" the gun, generate headlines and sell high only to resign him in the offseason.

Steve Dalkowski threw a pitch clocked at 114 MPH during spring training for the Orioles in the early 60's.

About 50 years ago the Yanks were playing the old KC Athletics in KC. As a promo for a new bowling alley, they asked Yogi if he would participate. In those days, KC was like a Yankee farm team because anybody good, they bought. (Roger Maris, Bob Cerv, etc) and the fans loved it when they came to town. Anyway, they had a pitching machine and a batting cage setup in front of the bowling lanes in the parking lot and got it up to 106 mph. Yoga was able to hit it and I'm sure he also had a Yogism as a follow up.

Ryan Duren used to hit 100 as a reliever, but he wore thick glasses and probably couldn't see that well so no one liked to hit against him. Almost always threw a few wild warm up pitches to help himself. The crowd loved it.

The Yankees need to write a big check to one of the three best GM's in baseball and end the Cashman reign. It's almost impossible to get less out of your farm system over two decades since the core came up.

If I were the Yankee, I'd deal all three relievers if I could get a boatload for each. Relievers are vastly over-valued because they just don't pitch enough innings, regardless of how it may feel better that they get a zero in a late inning. And the Yankees need to get younger and they need a lot more talent.

That said, I hope they win a few games and decide to buy.

The good Nova ....or the Bad Nova?

Why on earth does a mediocre team need studs in the bullpen? Trade them for more important everyday players who you can get more production out of. I'm a huge Yankees fan, but it's embarrassing to see the lack of quality depth they've produced out of the minors. It's also amazing to see borderline players like Solarte and Nunez having solid seasons when we felt compelled to give up on them.

43 You can't get rid of all of tem. Betances is the youngest and can be their closer for the next 10 years. You can't get rid of the whole team. Just most of it. If Bird and Judge and Sanchez and Mateo and Severino and friends work out they will be ok for a while if they replace Headley ,Gardner and the starters. You know what? They have a lot to do..

Science is an ongoing discovery of not only new stuff but proving what was once believed was wrong. It was once believed that the human body could not withstand as many G's as it is not doing on a regular basis.

I'm aware, but my skepticism remains. I'm still calling BS on the 114 mph pitch.

Three of the five Yankees starters....Eovaldi, Pineda, and Nova all have ERAs over 5.
Add in an anemic offense and it's friggin amazing that this team is over .500.
