OT Aroldis Chapman 105 MPH last night

Yankees need to keep Betances and offload everyone else so they can rebuild their system. NYC is not a destination for free agents since George left us.
Or they can trade Chapman... and sign him back assuming he hits free agency.

As far as no one want to play here right now:

"The reason I signed with the Yankees is because they expect to win every year, and I want to be a part of that," Andrew Miller said prior to the All-Star Game, per NJ.com.

[snip]

"That being said, if the opportunity comes up where I can come back to the team, I would be more than happy.

"This is a great team to be a part of, I can tell you that," Aroldis Chapman said. "When you go on the road, you can see how many fans we have and that's something really nice. That's something that I would love to keep being part of. Hopefully everything works out."

Justin you picked out two guys out of a million..As long as they are mediocre and the money is comparable elsewhere then they are not the big bad wolves they once we're. Right now Rutgers is more desirable than the Bombers...:sunglasses:

Chapman is a free agent this year. If you don't think you can win, get something back for him and try to sign him over the winter.
If Chapman is resigned by the Yankees, your going to lose Miller
and Betances. Why should they take second fiddle to Chapman.
Besides they both have better ERA's than Chapman.

The Yankees need to write a big check to one of the three best GM's in baseball and end the Cashman reign. It's almost impossible to get less out of your farm system over two decades since the core came up.
You got that right, he went from being George's Limo driver,
to GM of the world championship team built by Gene Michaels,
and slowly but surely destroyed the team.

I'm not getting too excited with Tillman up next, then Bumgarner.
Yikes.

Well....1 for 2...vs, those two.
Tough loss in 12 innings today.
Hopefully A-rod and Tex will start hitting soon and we can get back in the mix.

Aren't AROD and Tex candidates to be released soon ? AROD is in a 2-23 slump and is buried on the bench after having met with Hal Steinbrenner recently.

I'm thinking that the Yanks eat the remaining 28M on his contract and cut him loose soon. He can't hit MLB pitching anymore and has horrendous numbers for a DH.

I think the Yanks should clean house, including Beltran, and just keep Bettances in the pen. To think that they are somehow involved in the wild card race is pure fantasy IMO.

Whether the Yankees are in the wild card race or not is certainly debatable. But they DO have a shot. Long or not....they have a shot. And if A-Rod and Tex and McCann and Ellsbury and Gardner somehow happened to start hitting closer to their baseball card numbers...even a few of them...this team could make a run at a playoff spot. I'm not betting on it. But hold off on the eulogy just yet. They are after all two games behind the Mets...and THEIR fans have playoff fever.
As for replacing A-Rod, I'd probably be for it if there was a viable option. But the Yankees don't seem inclined to ante up for another team's dh or outfielder who can hit. And Aaron Hicks is a waste of at bats. And there's nobody in the minors knocking on the door. So I don't know what dumping A-Rod right now would accomplish.

^^^ Lolol all these optimistic Yankee fans crack me up. You guys stink. Your realistic fans DO NOT have playoff fever, and the mets fans rightfully DO, ya dope.

Wave bye bye to chapman, there's goes the only part of your team that was any good.

How come no ones posting here? Aren't you guys excited about chapman...wearing a different uniform??

Looking like Chapman to the Cubs.

Yankees getting a 19 yo shortstop back, plus more.

Guess they're not high on Didi.

They are very high on him, actually,
they knew what they were doing from the beginning.
They rented a great pitcher, on the cheap, and will get a good
deal for him. Yankees out smarted everyone. You Met fans
will never know how you can not keep the Yankees down
for long/ not like the other team from N.Y. Two championships
in 54 years, must be rough to share the town with the
greatest sports team ever.
Who's the real dope?

Of course they are high on Didi, they are going to get
the best deal they can, there are still 4 teams in
the mix for Chapman.

Oh you're still on your high horse. Got it. How many championships were you alive for? We'll see what the Yankees do now that they're operating more like a real baseball team. The days of the steinbrenner spending sprees on tainted players are over, but I guess you knew that...again I applaud the Yankees actually doing the right thing. Gotta capitalize on expiring contracts//strike when iron is hot. It's how the mets turned dickey into syndergaard and darnaud and Beltran into wheeler

Well, doing a little quick math here......if a mets fan is 30 yrs. old or younger, he's NEVER seen the mets win a World Series. (Actually, I think it should really be 40 or younger. One should be at least 10 to comprehend a World Championship in baseball. Just sayin'.)
And if a mets fan is 47 years old or younger, he's witnessed only ONE World Series championship in his lifetime.
He has however witnessed the mets lose a World Series to their big brother from the Bronx...if the guy is older than 16. Ah.... 2000.
Certainly not been a joy ride for fans of the mets.

23, World series and 18 wins. Division titles, Pennants,
Post season series? Don't have the energy to count them
all. Steinbrenner had some money, but not close to
Joan Payton, or the Doubledays. He was a great owner.
Also never had Autrey's, CBS's. Netendo,s and
many, many, more.

He is a free agent at the end of the year. How would it be a grave mistake?

Right...and I never thought the Yankees would win a bidding war for his services.
Meanwhile, the Cubs....who were already big favorites to win the World Series.....just became bigger favorites.

Amazing to me to see a guy throwing 105 mph, but also amazing to see batters turning on those pitches too. I don't give a rat's a$$ about it being straight or flat.

Playing in college, seeing the difference between 85-90 was quite shocking. Then a guy comes in bringing it at 93-94 was vicious. I can't imagine 105.
Truth...!
Could not imagine being a hitter today, we had two or three guys on each team throwing in the 90s.
Now you face middle relievers, setup men and closers throwing 95 plus

Well, you're a little too old to be a hitter today....no ?

I'm simply pointing out the great players you grew up watching, Mays, Aaron, Clemente, Mantle were hitting of fire ballers like Sudden Sam, Bob Veal, Jim Bunning and Koufax all barely breaking 90.
My era you saw Bench to Mattingly to Brett to Tony Gwynn hitting off of two or three pitchers in the entire league throwing over 95...Ryan and JR Richard of course getting up to 99 or 100, Goose was not in that ball park, he averaged low 90s, Lee Smith was the hardest thrower I ever hit off.
All the great hitters I mentioned would thrive now, but it would be harder, I've spoke with many hall of famers about it, they all agree

Interesting perspective Zap and very humble in my view. The way that all players train even during the off-season these days makes me wonder what yesterday's star hitters would be able to accomplish if they had trained more consistently. The pendulum has clearly swung back to the pitchers lately and the number of power pitchers is amazing. No denying that. But I see guys getting around on Thor when they expect a fastball. Seaver's fastball (I'd image low to mid 90's) seemed to rise while many of these modern pitchers look great on the gun but the pitch seems straight.

I think KBee was tying a version of the old joke about "what would Joe D. bat if he were playing today? ".

You bring up a valid point Zappaa... it's amazing to see the difference in the pitching side of the game from 20 years ago.

Seaver, Gibson and Carlton all great pitchers That couldn't break 95 on their best day.
They all averaged low 90s and had one thing in common...unhittable sliders they could throw behind in the count for strikes.

.

Actually it was from an old interview with Mickey Mantle. Some interviewer asked him...long after he had retired... how many homers he thought he would hit if he was still playing. He said something like "30" and, when the interviewer expressed surprise at the low number, Mantle said something along the lines of " Ya gotta remember I'm 50 years old now"?
Or something like that.

Lol, and you don't have the memory to have seen a fraction of them,in fact, how many have you been a live to see?

Kbee remembers the "Fillmore East" and probably Leslie West and Mountain's 20 minute version of Mississippi Queen.
So...I say he vaguely remembers the Yankees beating the Giants in 1962, count em from there

Actually.Dale, I always preferred his guitar solo from Theme From an Imaginary Western.

Oh and by the way, my dad was a big Giants/Willie Mays fan so you can bet that there was much attention paid to that World Series. He always said that Willie Mays was the best baseball player ever and I couldn't ever really come up with a player that was better than The Say Hey Kid.

Don't understand the question, like I said have been alive
for 23 world series and 18 titles. If a met fan lived 150 years,
they won't see as many as me.i

Yeah we get it. We can do math. Your opinions are outdated anyway. Another typical Yankee fan.

Wow, great haul by Cashman for Chapman/Miller. Beltran/Nova/Everyone else not named Betances, Didi, Tanaka should be on the block. I really hope that they trade McCann so we can see what Sanchez can do.

So you think he might be able to hit .230 like McCann....and allow at least one passed ball every friggin game like Brian ? I'm not so sure.

Sanchez isn't known for his defense and I'm not sure how he is calling a game. What he has going for him is that he's hitting well in AAA (.311/.354/.473) and is young (23). Probably going to be called up soon, so we will see what the Yanks have. Exciting times. Baseball America editor has the Yanks as a top 5 farm system now.

Might be my favorite post ever by my favorite poster.
