Hey everyone. I'm going to Austin in the fall with a bunch of college buddies. We're all 26-27, and budget is a factor as some of us are in school. We're going the weekend of a UT home game, and plan to go to that.

The plan is to hit some BBQ places, go to the game, and go out at nights. Wanted to know which neighborhood to make home base. Any suggestions of areas to stay, bars to check out, and restaurants to go to are appreciated. Thanks!

Eat at Franklin BBQ. (The line is worth it; bring some beers.)

Bars on 6th St. and Rainey St.

If you're into craft beer, Jester King is a great brewery 30 minutes away.

Assuming you and your buddies are male and straight, and if you're there around October 23rd, go to the Formula One race there. If it's anything like the Montreal race, it's guy heaven with super expensive hot cars and super expensive hot women everywhere you look.

While Franklin BBQ is certainly an experience, you can drive south to Lockhart, go to three really great BBQ joints (Black's, Kreuz, and Smitty's) and be back in the same time or less you would need to wait in line.

Go to Gourdough's Public House on South Lamar. It is a pub where all the food is on a donut.

Stay at the Driskill, its the oldest hotel in Texas but quite nice. 6th street is where the action is. Take ride to the Hill country, its very beautiful.

So I take it the Formula 1 race in Austin prohibits people that aren't straight? Or is it your view that only straight people watch auto racing.

Stay somewhere between 6th and Rainey...I did for work and I think it called the Hilton House on 2nd or 3rd. Nice hotel and very reasonable.

It was as @newell138 says. Nobody is prohibited. Nobody is unwelcome.

To your point though, I didn't really think it out completely. Assuming Austin is overrun in the same way Montreal is for the entire race-weekend, gay women that love supercars would love the weekend's events just as much as straight men given the vast numbers of supermodel-type young women being driven around in supercars by mostly wealthy old men.

And of course anybody that loves motor racing would enjoy the pinnacle of motorsport regardless of their sexual orientation. Please don't take what I posted to imply I have a kind problem with non-straight people. I do not. I love everybody.

Ah so your Bi....j/k and here I thought everyone went just to see the crashes......i guess your statement was "addition by subtraction". Just having fun with how you worded it.

So when is the first F-1 race being run in Weehawken?

The Weehawken race would've been this year, but was cancelled due to problems securing the funding to pay the race fees which are notoriously expensive. Need to keep Bernie Ecclestone's ex-wives, wife, and daughters in gold and diamonds.

I'm not bi. But I honestly wish I could be. Doubles the market and all. Problem is, my naughty bits simply don't respond to men. Probably because I mostly think guys are kind of gross, no offense to everyone. :) So while I love everyone, my love for men has been heretofore platonic.
