OT: Belmar beach badge checkers don’t fool around

The whole "beach badge" be dropped. Wonder how the lifeguards would feel if their salaries were dropped.
Cal has professional lifeguards. You don’t have to pay to go to the beach. The beach is for everyone.

Horrible that NJ does that.

Who has a multi-million dollar house with a bar as neighbor.

* And no. LOL

These days, the neighbors of Columns, DJais, Osprey, Leggetts, Jenks and Tiki are all in that bucket. And basically anyone along Ocean in Asbury these days. That new mixed hotel/condo property has stuff with Sea Girt prices.

Though maybe the neighbors of those places, in their paltry 2 or 3M homes, used their street skills more than those on the 4 or 5M properties to see if a bar was on their block? It's an under the radar skill only those of from the middle class have!

Still no. LOL

But to be honest I don’t really sympathize with those that bought in close proximity to a landmark establishment.

Noise? You bought next to a bar.

Crowds? You bought next to a bar.

Patrons pissing or throwing up on your property? Ok then, that I could see someone getting annoyed. And rightfully so.

Check Zillow, but yeah, the Parker House was there before them. And relative to basically any other major shore bar, it's quieter and closes much early. Parker has always been known as much more of a daytime place.

I think AC had full time lifeguards earning 100k pensions or something absolutely crazy like that. When it came out people were understandably stunned.
Was just down there this weekend.
Seems the beaches are closed for the season.
Also, no beach badge fees. Obviously, the Casinos are probably helping foot the bill for beach services?

But just a bit South, Margate and Ventnor season badges are $10, seniors $3.50.

Why are they so expensive in Monmouth County?
Belmar -$80/$20
Spring Lake- $85/$37
Sea Girt $115/???

Not sure what OC charges for the day but i think $35 for season which is reasonable IMO, vets are free too. BTW, is that your house w/ the RU flag on the Belmar/Spring Lake border? I believe there is also a Fairfield flag too. Was up in that area Friday riding bikes and checking out the surf tournament. Went to lunch at Marina Grille.... nice spot but food was pretty average at best.

You’re being kind with food was pretty average. Another chefs international atrocity. Great settings but awful food.

Not sure which house you are referring to, but we do not live there--it's a rental. We fly only the confederate flag--that is a lame joke!

Oh that Marina Grille is sheet!

Our go to place in Belmar for quick is the Anchor Tavern, or better yet Comfi on Main Street, where at least a few years ago, you could get kielbasa and pierogis. Ragin Cajun, close to Marina Grille is also good.

I had heard about Comfi in Old Bridge when I worked in Matawan. Went to the one in Belmar about 3 weeks ago for breakfast. Food was good and you get a lot!

Had pierogi tacos there as special last fall. Deep fried pierogies sliced length wise to create the shell stuffed with your choice of filling (beef, chorizo or egg). Yea i opted for one of each. Great place.
My cholesterol increased 10 points reading that, and I am still all in. They were closed for a long while during the pandemic, and have not been since reopening.

A real lot.

And the menu item names are hilarious.

Was expecting a more thorough renovation. Didn’t change all that much in the front of the house. Much of the Reno concentrated on updating the kitchen.

AC has always been free, I believe Wildwood too. IMO, despite growing up in Monmouth County, the water and sand is probably nicer in South Jersey. In the Monmouth County beaches you're basically paying more to be closer to NYC/North Jersey where everything costs more relative to the Delaware Valley. Though again, I live in JC now and when I'm at the shore everything feels relatively cheaper versus up here.

End of an era.

Sad day for the NJ shore. Was there a few times in June and once in August. Have a bunch of unused tickets. LOL! Curious to see what is pitched next for the property.

We were there this year also. Back in the day when my boys were young we'd go to Keansburg Boardwalk because it was close and they loved winning tickets on Skee Ball. Bob, the owner of Fun City back in those days also owned a similar Arcade in Ocean City. He'd travel back and forth several days a week checking in on both. A great guy with the kids, always announcing specials to win more tickets, a real showman, lol.

We vacation in Ocean City each summer and go down often for day trips. Went there a few Saturdays this fall including this past Saturday to walk around and for the Porsche show. Parked near Gillian's and it was the first time we went since it closed. Pretty sad to see all the signage down already on the building and the pizzeria. The place was booming this summer but sadly didn't seem to be in years past. I read an article in a local paper over the summer. Seems like a developer bought it a few years ago when it defaulted on its mortgage. He wanted to build an upscale hotel, but of course that met a lot of opposition I guess.

Sad news for OC and those who visit. We lost Kiddie Rides, Mini Golf, and Arcades here to development decades ago. Things change but not always for the good.
Most people would be happy with whatever they decide as long as the Ferris wheel stays lol. It is nice to see as you drive over the bridge

Kiddie Rides and Mini Golf?
I remember Kirsch's (spelling) and the giant waterslide North of Gee Gee's (a shell of it's former self) and Gee Gee's having a larger arcade.
I don't remember Kiddie Rides.

Mini golf-I remember there being a least one place a block or two West of the Osprey- is that the one you are referring to?

Belmar lost their mini golf years ago. Closest one north of Manasquan is Bradley beach-sure Pt. Pleasant has mini golfs and rides, but it's a zoo to park there most days.

Used to walk from Avon to Belmar to play rooftop mini golf. Have driven by a few times as an adult and can’t even pick out where it was any more. It amazes me that mini golf places stay in business in places like Lbi where they could sell the real estate for $5-10m and walk away.

The Belmar mini golf was, I believe where the Three Brother Pizza, Eastern Lines Surf Shop and other food places are. I forget if they tore it down or just rebuilt around the old building.

It was called Belmar Playland.

Did a search, and did not realize there was mini golf right on the boardwalk and a 16th Ave Pier.

One thing we have in OC is mini golf, another one just opened up this year, which brings the total to about 10 so they must be making money. Some of them charge $15-20 a head and in the summer they are always crowded at night.

Mini? Yes on 3rd amd Main. Before the water slide there were rides for young ones, an arcade, 2 food places, a beach stuff shop and bathhouse along with 2-3 houses on the Brielle end where the beachfront condos are. Irvin or Irving Kirsch owned the beachfront property from Main to Brielle from the 1940's. He also owned a number of summer bubgalows and had a small stake in Leggetts. After he died the family sold it all.

Howell has mini-golf complete with a waterfall and mountain. We went, I thought this is stupid, but it turned out to be a pretty cool time.

Reggies was still going back then.
We first purchased in Belmar right off of 18th on Snyder Ave (between A and B). Beer pong on front lawns was still allowed. We were close enough to D'Jais that we would get some spillover from bar hookups. The bungalows next door to us were mostly vacant, and one morning, we had our morning coffee a young couple was going at it on the porch of the bungalow--guy woke up in the crack of Dawn! Mayor Pringle cracked down on all the fun, and those days are long gone.

Do you think they would adopt an older person to help them spend all the moneyy

I may have hooked up on your lawn at some point
