ot: bob diacco Fired from uconn

Seemed like AD wanted BD to hire Kill but he didn't (or wouldn't) and when Kill signed with RU the AD had enough and decided to fire him

Yeah - sure does - especially when you read the quote from the AD -
"I am interested in having a head coach where he is overseeing all aspects of the program and not necessarily being focused on one side of the ball."

Clearly you haven't been to a game at the Rent or interacted with their fans. They have an incredibly high opinion of themselves and dismissive attitude about us. I hope they dump football and join the Big East. One more bad hire might just do that - they are hemorrhaging money with no positive glide slope.

Agree. A slow painful miserable death for the UCONN FB program will be great fun.

Maybe they will hire Flood. We will no longer be able to get the 2* diamond in the rough.

Laugh if you want (and I seriously doubt he would ever be considered either)... but, "Flood-level" is exactly what this job is going to get....

it's the "deadist" of dead-end jobs.

mid-major coordinator or last-chance former head coach......

This is why Kill won't be a head coach again. All the aspects of being one, with his health, isn't a good thing for him. He's healthy now and that's why he can take a position where he only has to concentrate on a couple of things.

uconn saying Diaco got fired after he wouldn't hire Kill as OC.Two new guys at Uconn athletics are past gopher guys..wonder if they try and get Kill as HC?

If the ACC doesn't throw them a lifebuoy in the next 3 years or so I predict they'll drop to FCS in football and join the Big East for all other sports. BB is their bread and butter and it's suffering big league in the AAC, especially the women who have zero competition

I remember thinking the same thing about Temple's future.
Then they got Ruhle....and Walker got some experience.
Why couldn't the same thing happen at UConn ?

Again I'm pretty sure Kill has already said he would never be a head coach again due to his health reasons and everything that is involved with being a head coach. He wouldn't be able to take care of his body properly as a head coach, as opposed to a Coordinator, so it's likely out of the equation.

Wow, UConn WBB is a $$$ Apparently nobody wanted him aas HC, loser. HArd to believe, but it is what it is. I'm sure they pay Geno a lot, but don't they sell out everywhere they go (including home)? And I would think MBB is successful on the monetary end. Only goes to show how FB is by far and away the money driver.

No chance at Schiano going to UConn: G-5? And he knows close-up about UConn. Much better jobs coming up next year. Brown from Mich? Why would he leave a program favored to be in the hunt again for a graveyard? Plus he probably makes almost as much NOW than he'll get at UConn. Now, Al Golden is intriguing. Nobody wanted him as a HC, and who knows about the Coordinator positions (would he take one?) but UConn could be that "last chance" shot.

interesting bunch of comments / points on the possible thinking of UCONN athletic director David Benedict

- There will be no search firm used for a new coach. Benedict said he doesn't think one is necessary at this point. He will move as swiftly as possible in hiring a new man.

- A source — not Benedict — said that former Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill was on campus a few weeks back, that Kill wanted the job (OC) and Diaco wasn't interested in Kill. Benedict would not comment on this.

Benedict worked at Minnesota when Kill was head coach. He is known as a builder and offensive mind. At 55, he also could have been a mentor. Kill resigned 14 months ago at Minnesota after a number of epileptic seizures, but he has said he has gotten them under control. Last week, he signed a three-year deal as the new Rutgers offensive coordinator.
The failure to hire Kill could have been the nail in the coffin. The article Rumba referenced from the Courant also stated the AD was very concerned about the offense. It seems like the AD was sending BD a message with the Kill connection and BD either ignored it or could not understand it.

Don't know what was actually said - but it iseems clear that
(1.) the AD was not pleased with the previous lask-luster offensive side of the game -
(2.) the AD is not willing to just muddle along with a HC who 'does not get the message'

AD probably provided the door-opener to get Diaco together with Kill & probably gave solid recommendation / encouragement to seriously consider Kill .... appears that Diaco may have 'slow walked' the process - without any real sense of urgency / seriousness & sort of hoped that Kill would go away - so Diaco could select some more junior, more anonymous OC -and the AD may have gotten feed back from Kill that indicated that the 'interview' was being dealt with in a very dismissive way by Diaco.

There were also reports in a CT newspaper ( New Haven Register) of accusations made by a recruit's parent saying that their son was not treated well by BD and staff. Not sure if this anything to do with BD dismissal.

RUScrew -- Amazing what one/two typing problems can do. Loser should have come right after "$$$" and "aas" was meant to be "as"

If I offended anybody...my bad.

I remember them saying that they had the best run AD in this area. May have been a while ago,
That was true when Lew Perkins ran the show. 1990-2003.
But the guys who followed him have not been able to follow suit.
Perkins>>>Hathaway>>Manuel>Benedict
We're not the only ones to have some turnover in the job.

No offense, just hard to understand and the opportunity for a Wat? joke.

Flood would not even get UConn at this point. He is under NCAA investigation for crying out loud.

They could easily get a retread that won things and didn't ask for private meetings with professors.

Great for UCONN - not so great for Edsall.

On a related point - I will be VERY interested on where Schiano get back to HC-ing. Edsall to UCONN, what Schiano to USF?

I think that would be the best course for UCONN. He knows all that needs to be known about UCONN and its' position in the college football world.

I think Schiano has his eye on bigger fish than USF, Although Taggert has shown the job has some potential.

I know its a different administration but the way he left for Maryland was a scumbag move from what I remember.

Yes.
Made his RB announce to the Team before the Bowl game that he was declaring for the NFL Draft early.
Then the dirtbag Edsall sneaks out of Phoenix after the Bowl Game on a different plane going right to Maryland without saying a word. A real scumbag.

He finished his obligations to the team. Was there more to the story?
Is it worse than leaving recruits high and dry who you were scheduled to meet about a week before national signing day?

More to the story is ( like RU#1fan said) : Edsall had his star RB stand up in front of the team to tell them he wasn't returning for his senior year like turning pro was an act of disloyalty to them and then let the team fly home from the bowl game without him on board so he could sneak off to Maryland (without anyone knowing) in order to try to get the Maryland HC position.

If there ever was a D1 HC position tailor made for Jim Tressel's return, it's this.

Yes, he made RB looked to be disloyal to his teammates all the while had his own plans to jettison the team immediately after the game without a word. Real high character guy that Randy E. is.

Yes cheating is about the only way UConn FB might be a top program.
JT was good at that during his time at Youngstown State and the way he ran OSU while he was there.
