OT: Coach Prime lands record-breaking contract extension with CU Buffs

Lots of people said he would leave for NFL - and he lost recruits because of it.
But he likes Colorado and Colorado likes him.
All the talk about being "disruptive" was funny since he has been nothing but a prince of peace at Colorado
With addition of Marshall Falk Colorado now has 3 HOF coaches (Prime and Sapp being the other two).
I don't know how the NIL is going

On the surface Colorado is similar to Rutgers. The politicians don't care much for the state schools (CU & CSU). They rather give public money to pro teams. The difference is Colorado has alumni and friends of the program who are willing to write BIG checks. Also, the local media supports the school unlike nj.com with Rutgers. People of Colorado have a favorable view of Colorado and support the school as long as no BS is going on. Rutgers, on the other hand, has to prove itself before the locals are willing to support it, then that support comes with strings attached.

ALL the politicians like money and Sanders brings it to Colorado and Boulder.
Six home games brought in $113.2 million to Boulder,

"The Colorado athletic department reported record revenue and football ticket sales in fiscal year 2024, leading to an $8.2 million “profit” after posting deficits in five of the previous six years, according to a financial report filed by Colorado recently with the NCAA.

Colorado released the report this week for fiscal year 2024, which covers July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, including the first football season under coach Deion Sanders and also the last full fiscal year for Colorado in the Pac-12 Conference. The Coach Prime Effect of Sanders’ hiring helped lead the department to a record $146.6 million in reported revenue and a record $31.2 million in football ticket sales, which is roughly double the previous school recors"

Colorado still has legacy costs to resolve but they should get help now that coach is staying.
The NIL "collective" is gone and all NIL goes through Athletic department now.
Prime likes NIL but never liked collectives anyway

Prime is a unicorn. Prior to his arrival, Colorado was a carbon copy of Rutgers.

CU still had stain and somewhat of a national reputation

National title, the hell Marriott , Michigan, Cordell Stewart, Rasham Salan, Eric B enemy, 30/30 on the coach, etc.
Yes , for a while Colorado was a national program and had big time coaches. . The situation is nothing like Rutgers.
Prime is doing a great job , even if this board thinks otherwise

Uh oh. How dare you compare any other program to Rutgers!
Rutgers is and has always been a unique situation and can't be compared to anyone else in the world!

Funny how the experts are educating you about Colorado.

It's actually really funny.
If anyone tried to say Syracuse and Donovan McNabb had "stain" still they would he laughed at and mocked.
"That was 30 years ago. Nobody cares. Current players weren't even born."

But Colorado and Eric Bienbiemy are still relevant 35 years later.

Flags fly forever

Nobody gives a shit about Syracuse because Syracuse never won anything of significance

Deion went knowing there was potential there, and knowing that if he came, the money would flow in

It’s cause and affect from the previous success they had, not because he likes sking or had a special affinity for Ralphie

You could’ve just stopped at National Title and maybe the two Heisman winners to make your point.

Ummmm, Syracuse won a national championship in 1959. And they have had a trio of running backs you may have heard of, Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Larry Csonka . . .

Awesome
65 years ago they won
Army was a powerhouse back then as well
Now… not so much

Fran will either tank there (not likely) or leave for greener pastures

Thats not, nor will ever be, a destination job
Colorado isn’t Notre Dame, but they’re light years ahead of the fruit

Hunter deserves the honor. I just thought they would wait some time.

Sanders does not hold the same honor as Hunter. He's not even the best #2 to play at CU. That goes to Dion Figures. Dion was Big 8 newcomer of the year. 2-time first team all Big 8. All-american and Jim Thorpe Award winner. To top it off, he had the game clinching INT against ND to win win the National Championship.

In a recent group chat, most of the guys are pissed that the AD Rick George is allowing Deion Sanders to run over and through CU's past. Rick George was there back when Coach Mac was recruiting, producing studs, and winning meaningful games.

I think Prime is just trying to equalize the unprecedented media barrage directed at Shedeur.
It made no sense to pull the number retirement thing except that its a week before draft.
Prime went a bridge too far on that one.

On this day in Knight Report Football message board history, ashokan, for what is believed to be the first time, criticized Coach Prime.

I criticized him for the GameDay fiasco with all the celebs and Lil Wayne leading players onto the field. I also said his overcooked, 90's BlingThing attitude spoiled some players and made them targets for dirty hits. Deion doesn't do everything perfect. He's a man of action and sometimes he can shoot himself in the foot. He's not on a 10 year plan were safety is #1. I'm sure the 6 weeks of "Shedeur sucks" media riled him up. The leading passer for accuracy was being diminished while other QBs not as accurate were being praised for their accuracy..

I stand corrected. For the record, I'm neutral to positive about Deion. I like his swagger and the excitement he brings to the game. Nobody is perfect.

I see this happening if the current FSU coach Norvell bombs this year.

Deion and the coaches really like Colorado. Sapp gushes how amazing it is to go to practice with the mountains in view. I used to think of of Colorado as in the "middle of nowhere" but now I understand its in the "middle of everywhere". Recruits can come from all directions with a 3-4 hr ride in most cases. Same for game travel. Plus a place like FSU has alums crawling all over the place stirring drama. Prime is a big fish in a bowl smaller than FSU

Mike's been told he has 2 years to fix this, but like you say, if he bombs this year, he's out
Being that 3 WR's have already transferred, I'm not exactly sure what his plan is, but at least the ACC is terrible to 6-6 and the Pinstripe Bowl might be a possibility

Re. Deion, there's a lot of hard feelings - especially since the Hunter fiasco and his continued taking digs at them
I wouldn't rule it completely out, but would be extremely surprised - almost shocked - if they went that route

CU is great
Been to a few games out there
The landscape is a thing of beauty

Alums typically stay away from creating drama in Tallahassee
Peter, Charlie, Snoop and Big Game are regulars at games
William Floyd as well as he's on the announcing team

Tallahassee is difficult to get to
Pretty remote
That keeps guys away - and overall, the Booster / alumni culture isn't like at a lot of other big schools
For the most part, they're pretty levelheaded and not overbearing - but like you say, if Prime came back, that creates a whole different era there
