OT: CU Boulder has offered Deion Sanders a starting salary of more than $5 million per year to become the next head coach

Could be quite a coup for CO ...unless he leaves in a year like Tucker.

Surprised he's going to Boulder
It was between CU, Cincy and USF

Thought for sure USF
He's from Ft. Myers, fertile recruiting area, easy schedule, perfect spot to leapfrog into something bigger

Happy he's headed out west though
Recruiting against him for FSU would have been a hassle

He would have snagged a few tweeners and likely flipped a few kids we were after
Unless CU hits it big with NIL, they will never be back in our lifetimes

Gusty decision, but happy for him (and me) nonetheless

USF can’t compete with that salary. As soon as I saw that, I figured he was going to Colorado.

If he got some kids to go to Jackson State he can get some players to go to Colorado. I think the bigger question is will he get a good enough staff to coach and develop them.

Colorado would’ve made a 12 team playoff back in 2016. We just saw last night what Utah did to a team full of NIL twice this season to go to back to back Rose Bowls. They would’ve made a 12 team playoff 3 times in Whittingham’s tenure. Depending on his staff, I wouldn’t write them off.

We’re genuinely going to be kicking ourselves in a few years for not going after him
😂😂😂 There’s that one faction on these boards who went dog 💩 crazy when they only read that Bronny James was MAYBE looking at Rutgers. They would’ve went apoplectic with the thought of Deoin was looking at Rutgers.

Figured it was a $$ play
He'll def get some kids to come (Hunter, Coleman, Shadir)

Re. NIL, it's still new. USC isn't going anywhere, they will be a force for years to come. This was Lincoln's first year there and he's recuriting lights out w/a treasure chest of NIL $$

CU should be better then they are, but the glory days of the 90's with Rashan Salan, Kordell Stewart and Eric Beienamy are long gone

Didn't say USC is going anywhere. Riley is a good coach but probably needs a new DC. I'm saying you compete with those teams and still get contributing players regardless of NIL/portal etc..

I don't expect CU to be like he 90s but they can be respectable..bowls etc.. with an occasional reach up to better.

Def needs a defense, looked like Oklahoma out there
It's year 1 of NIL - if Utah is competing with USC in the next decade, color me shocked

Agree with CU, when I mean back i mean 90's championship back
I like watching them as it harkens me back to my youth - and a game out in Boulder is certainly a sight to behold (mountains, Ralphie, etc.)

I hadn't been paying attention.. Luke Fickell to Wisconsin for $7.5M a year to start? Nice. Interesting how Wisconisn's Alvarez encouraged Rutgers to take Chris Ash, Luke Fickell's co-DC at OSU... and now they take the real DC at OSU at the time.

As for Deion.. with NIL and transfer portal, we could be seeing a whole new brand of executive head coach.. not that I know that Deion doesn't do the Xs and Os.. just saying a celebrity head coach who is mainly a celebrity might be a whole new thing.

Fickell seems like a home run hire, but these things are a crap shoot and you never really know
Same with Ruhle at Nebraska

Deion is definitely a trendsetter. He can do well there if he surrounds himself with a solid staff

Bro he’s going to Colorado…. What kind of football history and tradition do you think Colorado offers? RU is less than an hour from NYC, prime is tied in with Barstool who’se headquarters are in NYC…. It would have been the answer to NIL. The amount of Greg’s buyout and primes contract would be peanuts compared to the revenue Prime would bring to Rutgers

If they split that 5 million up and gave their top recruiting targets 500 thousand each, they’d have a better chance to win.
Then hire Deion
This is college football today

Alvarez isn’t dumb

If I was Colorado I might be a little put off by how long Deion sat on this offer obviously waiting to see if a better opportunity would present itself. I thought USF was a better fit/step to a major job as I think there is probably legitimate concern that he will get the proper support and be able to win in Boulder.

When are we supposed to go after him ? Schiano isn’t getting fired after 3 seasons
With what money? We can’t compete with that salary. Reminded me of all the names people threw out before we hired Ash. Comeback to reality people

Show me where I said I didn’t want Deion here. It would NEVER happen here but I think that would be a great move for Rutgers.

I said that certain group who went ape over Bronny being mentioned would’ve been in berserk mode with Deion.

But If he was an actual candidate, Rutgers would’ve still went Rutgers fearing Nj dot com and hired one of the Camp Brothers over Deion on the potential that they would bring one of those Big North players that they’re associated with but barely go to Rutgers.

Oh… and Colorado does have a piece of the 1990 National Championship.

He went with the P5 team.

Can’t play at the level he played at and don’t understand Xs and Os

I mentioned this in one of the other threads but heard on a pod he’s looking to bring about 7 players with him including his son.
They were 1-11 this year, can Deion get them to 6 wins next year?

I think that’s a big ask but who knows. With the portal, it’s possible to remake a team quickly. So if he gets a good staff and can snag some players then you never know.
