One point of the article is GM is having some trouble getting their Ohio battery cell plant running, but are keeping their 1 million vehicle sales target for 2025.

GM has logged two years of strong profit gains in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Even though the computer-chip shortage has curbed output and commodity and logistics costs have soared, the prices U.S. car buyers have been paying remain at record or near-record levels. The supply shortages have allowed GM to give priority to output of its most profitable vehicles—large pickup trucks and SUVs—further lifting profits.

Still, GM’s EV sales haven’t only fallen further behind market leader Tesla, but have also been surpassed by traditional rivals, including Ford Motor Co. and Hyundai Motor Co. GM said it had record sales in the third quarter of its top-selling EV, the Chevrolet Bolt.

Toyota (and Honda) bet the farm on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. They lost. Now they are floundering.

Panic mode - Problem is if you read that report they are five years behind - What a bunch of dolts running that company.

I bought a honda two years ago ( car was totaled and needed a car quick). Told the salesman at Clinton Honda "You better get going with electrics - he looked at me like I was nuts" - I said to myself - clueless.

Because a salesman at Clinton Honda makes those sorts of decisions. Of course he looked at you like you were nuts.

Used an EVGO 50 kw DC charger today. A little disappointed on speed. Ramped up to 35kw quickly but never got higher. 45 min for 30kwh added for $19.

I think that is what they have at our office building. It was raining hard one day, and we parked our plug-in hybrid at the charger right by the entrance. It was expensive to top off the 41 miles of range. That's why we charge at home. Realize not everyone will have that option.

Hoping EVs would go away and running anti-EV propaganda ads turned out to be the wrong strategy.

I've also said in the past, Hydrogen fool cells will NEVER be cost competitive with BEVs. Roughly $2 million to install a single hydrogen fueling station + the cost to source the hydrogen in the first place.

I only charge at home and sometimes at the Mall where they have free charging stations for a quick topping off since I'm there anyway.

There are actually 2 nice ones right near you.
I drive past them sometimes, I suppose, but at speeds so fast I can't look over at them. Which is made possible by funding from toll collections that keep our roads in pristine condition. 😁

(Just a little cross-thread humor to start the day.)

In stationary storage news, Tesla's Megapack factory in Lathrop, Ca. is up and running. Will producing 25 Megapacks/day and will have enough production capacity for 40 GWh/year.

For comparison, there is as much as 50 times the Model Y’s battery energy capacity in a Megapack. So an output of 25 per day is equivalent to the batteries in more than 1,000 electric cars.

Shocking. Who would've thought that a company can't just irresponsibly say and do whatever the hell it wants no matter how misleading it is about people's safety.

Cue the Teslerati who will vehemently defend being lied to while pointing out how Elon is saving the world.

Been watching him since his first video. And you know what the first thought that came to mind was, watching this most recent one, maybe 2 minutes in? 😀

If you guessed “vacuum cleaner” khana, you get a gold star. I’m so ashamed. 🤣
The incessant whirring was a bit annoying. Can't they just replicate the sound of a high revving v6 or v8... maybe an Italian v12...in there instead of the space sounds?

I guess they'll be going against Kodiak next.

I sure hope so. Public roadways are not the place for beta testing self driving tech.

I suppose one day maybe I’ll get used to it. Maybe. But it’s just not very engaging.

Meaningless. Won't go anywhere.

The U.S. Department of Justice launched the previously undisclosed probe last year

the company also has explicitly warned drivers that they must keep their hands on the wheel and maintain control of their vehicles while using Autopilot.

its features “do not make the vehicle autonomous,” the company says on its website.

Such warnings could complicate any case the Justice Department might wish to bring, the sources said.
