OT: Electric vehicles

Isn’t this the same as the previous one being touted?

With all the ugly angles and such.

Got rear ended in the Lighting on RT 35 in Mantoloking. New driver got caught up looking at the new mega beach houses. It was a <5 mph accident. He got the worst of it. My custom RU hitch cover was damaged but nothing else. but I still got a police report because of all the horror stories about EV repair cost. Will let everyone know after I take it in the shop.
Sorry to hear. Guess the other driver didn't have auto emergency breaking

Didn’t see this post, initially. That sucks. Glad nobody was hurt and hopefully no serious damage to your car. Good news is your insurance company can’t raise your rates for an accident of this nature.

Lightning price cut from Ford:

Direct from Ford, maybe some additional info.

Farley was heard saying, that Ford's price cuts are better than Tesla's price cuts because they just are.

The price cuts look pretty meaningful. Whatever the prices, I'd buy 3 Lightning's before I'd even rent a flying triangle Cybertruck.

I've been checking out Bronco's lately (online). Just as something to pull off the roof and doors and have totally child-like fun.

So F is going to lose more money on each EV sold! :)
You could be on to something. Could be a bad strategy.

Maybe the Big Three truck makers should actually raise prices a lot. Which would cause people to initially buy cheap Cybertrucks which should be plenty profitable for Tesla given they have been so obviously designed to be inexpensive to build.

Then CT owners, almost immediately feeling duped, will instantly flood the used car market with their lightly used CTs after they become tired of being laughed at for something they thought would be perceived as trendy and cool but is instead butt-ugly, spartan and useless. Which will drive down the value of the CT further.

Resulting in people flocking to buy awesome trucks from the Big Three at a higher price.

STFU until then.
But it's fun watching someone so anxious to unintentionally humiliate himself for our entertainment, no? And wouldn't that mean we want him to post even more?

Incidentally, as it turns out, it wasn't me that said anything about crossovers being effeminate. I checked - mostly to see if I'd been sleep-posting since I couldn't remember anything about it.

Anyway, while I don't like to point fingers, it was that dirty rotten scoundrel, @fsg2 who done it, albeit somewhat obliquely, like the angles on most modern SUVs these days. 🙂

Sawyer Merritt is a real twat.

No one was paying any mind to what "Hotcars" predicted, then or now. Like dunking on a third-grader in a wheelchair.
Poor Sawyer's cult mentality on prominent display. Someone said something bad about the object of his worship. Instead of laughing it off like a normal person, held onto it for several years so he could issue a tweeted "I told you so".

Sad. Funny. But sad.

Tesla cut prices and they are genius but F cut price they are idiots. In reality, the price cut brings the price back to the original price before they increases it due to supply chain issue.

Agreed with what? Its proportions had nothing to do with that.

Good luck to them. My favorite EVs, personally, but another not-great sign.
I agree with the pivot. as a truck, it’s styling i awkward. But as a SUV, the styling is much better. Why is it not a good sign?

ETA: the CT will have the same issue. These trucks are not designed for existing truck owners and there are only so many non-truck buyers out there.

agreed with this. its a better proportion as an SUV.
Their SUV is pretty amazing, see a bunch in my area. Higher income folks are used to paying top dollar for a nice SUV, so focusing on the R1S over the R1T is probably a good idea. Also, like that RIVN is in the commercial delivery truck category as well. Company may be a big winner down the road.

Hotcars was 1 of many who predicted the Model Y would flop, no demand, never be made, was vaporware...etc. This was not a one-off prediction. Rewind further and you'd see similar predictions for Model 3, some of which were valid as the Model 3 ramp nearly buried Tesla. We now see history repeating itself with Cybertruck predictions. I think we know how this will end. I believe that was the point of Sawyer's tweet.

Disagree. If you're digging yourself into a hole, stop digging. Rivian is narrowing their resources to a single product that will sell in volume. The name of the game is lowering COGS, manufacturing efficiency, and economies of scale. It's become crystal clear offering multiple models with multiple trims doesn't work w EVs, especially in the early startup stages (see Lucid).

A “debate” about if this or that particular car will sell is stupid and pointless. Most well-adjusted people participate in such meaningless debates out of boredom or habit or trolling - it's momentary entertainment. They don't actually care what happens either way. It's forgotten about entirely minutes after moving onto something else.

Holding onto a meaningless prediction and then obsessively bringing it up years later like Sawyer did? It’s a little psychotic. A little unhealthy.

Because it's a truck platform best-suited to a truck. And it was the only midsize (ish) electric truck out there. Also, their first product, highly anticipated ...so not really great that it failed. The whole company was based around the idea of rugged, capable adventure vehicles.

It was kind of an awkward truck because of the too-short bed, but it's a more awkward SUV. Maybe it'll work out, but this is a rather large bump in the road ...gonna need all of that 15 inches of now-unnecessary ground clearance and then some.

Not sure who/what you're disagreeing with.

I'm not suggesting they shouldn't do it. I'm saying immediately "digging yourself into a hole" with your feature debut product isn't a great way to start.

Maybe it'll work out, maybe not. At this point I don't even care ...brand is diluted to a forgotten me too for me.
