Unless you absolutely needed to buy a car this year... not sure why you wouldn't have waited until this bill got passed. The credit is a huge centerpiece of the bill and was always going to be a part of it.

Regardless of what one thinks of nuclear power, it is prohibitively expensive. Utilities in South Carolina and Georgia + Westinghouse are finding this out the hard way. Until the industry can overcome the prohibitive costs, we won't see significant increases in their use.
One thing I'll mention about Volkswagen. I leased a Tiguan before buying a Tesla. The software is slow and laggy. I found it really annoying and this apparently still an issue for VW. I think the ID4 is a really nice vehicle, but the software issue was a real pain.
25:39, in an Audi A6. Overall average 110 mph, moving average 112 mph (31 minutes total stoppage time). Max speed 175 mph.
Significant increase? I'm just talking about not shutting them down before the end of their useful life like Germany did and they did to Indian Point.
Even there, utilities weigh the risk-reward + public perception. Again, I'm not trying to interject my personal feelings on nuclear power, but nukes are basically dead. Another so-called clean energy source - hydropower - is also off the table.
And reason why the dealer network is hindering all the traditional companies. Consumers are going to remember the price gouging that is going on and that will also play right into the hands of tesla.

Wokeness? What does wokeness have to do with opposition to nuclear or hydro power? There are legitimate concerns about nukes. In any case, useless crying about wokeness aren't going to change the economics.
Wokeness is insisting the hydro dams get breeched because not a SINGLE salmon run can be disrupted and those that were have to be restored. Woke, and their parents, have been anti- nuke since the 70s. So safe operation for 50 years means nothing with respect to Indian Point remaining for a few years more with zero emissions. Those aren't legitimate concerns, those are woke politics.
Are there, though? I discount Chernobyl. The Soviets never did anything right, and that's not meant to be hyperbole. As military and technological adversaries, by the time we got into the 80s there was just no level of comparison.
So that notwithstanding, nuclear power has been very, very safe. The waste disposal issue is always going to be there, but I think encasing it in concrete and titanium and dropping it into the MidAtlantic Ridge is perfectly okay. There's no discernible downside.

The one time I recall being somewhat concerned, deeply would be overstating it, is when our former president intentionally played to the xenophobes, bigots, racists, and white supremacists among us. That was a bit too Hitlerian for me.
The downside is cost. The South Carolina plant (abandoned) cost $9 billion and the Georgia delayed project has a staggering cost of $27 billion (and counting). These are insane costs - nukes may offer many positives, but not if they can't be even remotely cost-effective.
You can quote Santayana, but the simple fact that he, and Moore's law, do not apply to storage.
But those cost do NOT apply to keeping existing plants open and not shutting them down before the end of their useful life.

The fact is, people are selfish assholes and nobody wants a power generation facility of any kind anywhere near them. At some point we're just going to have to tell them all it's just too f*ckin' bad.
NIMBY has cost this country an exorbitant amount of money thru its short history. Led to extreme socioeconomic exploitation and countless public health disasters. Power generation is just one example. The fear of nuclear is real... but the reality is, with the right safeguards and picking the right sites for a power plant would make it extremely safe (i.e., not on a fault line or on the shoreline). New technologies are available and ready to be used, but the big boy companies in the space have no interest in building them or supporting them.

How we generate power for an EV future is relevant to the discussion of EV. This is probably the only time i'll ever agree with @mdk01 on anything, but I think that nuclear power has to be front and center if we have any hope of reaching a low to no carbon emissions future. Funny thing is... there is quite a number of crypto bros who are part of the teslarati... and it's counterintuitive for wanting a greener future. Minting of btc and eth is so power intensive and siphons off the power generating capacity that could alleviate the need to build more coal plants.
Had a truly wonderful Autumn drive today in my favorite carbon spewing, disturbing the peace ear-splitting, gas guzzling, law-breaking, narcissism-driven, compensating for inferiorities driven, midlife crisis drive, douche-mobile.
