do you think the other automakers factored the chip shortage in their out-year forecasts back in 2018 and 2019? you can factor in some allowances in the forecast, but you're not going to know what you don't know. just because they're a startup doesn't mean that they should be held to a different standard than everyone else.
 

production cut because of a shortage of shipping containers! there needs to be a global reckoning in the supply chain and shipping/logistics fields. the port of los angeles' issues and the suez canal blockage simply can't be allowed to be world altering events that cascade into all areas of the economy. race to low cost also has plenty of risk attached, as we now see.
 
In what possible world is posting a tweet about some athlete driving a particular brand NOT spamming the thread? In every car forum I've participated in, and I've participated in lots over the years, you'd have been banned for those type of posts. Most have an area in which vendors are allowed to post. Most have an area in which forum members can post stuff for sale. But ALL have rules that prohibit people from excessive shilling for any particular preferred car or brand.

And that behavior bothers everybody who isn't a cultist for a particular brand. Which is why it's a bannable offense in most car forums.

You posting that sort of stuff provides no useful information to anybody. It's pure spam. It's you marketing your preference for a particular brand. You think Ritchie wants you engaging in free advertising on his website? I sure wouldn't. You want to buy ads, great. No freebies.

you've offered nothing to the conversation but trolling posts to the discussion for many many pages now. people who are GENUINELY curious about EV's would also like to know about developments in the entire sector, as well as overall impact of the progress in this space, including potential pitfalls of our race to zero emissions. focusing on only Tesla is stupid because the auto industry is extremely decentralized and distributed. the global leader in market share, Toyota, only made up 8.5%. VW was just under 8%. the interest in this space should be about the EV sector, not just you and whichreligion's desire to give musk a virtual handjob on this board. if you want to start a thread about ONLY tesla, that's fine. go do that, but don't title it Electric Vehicles. your title thread was entirely disingenuous since you clearly don't want to talk about anything other than Tesla in this arena...and if you do, it's only to be dismissive of all things not tesla.

in review of the past several pages, it has not been as much from you as much as it has been from whichreligion, so my apologies for lumping you in with him in terms of the spamming. however, your dismissiveness of things non-tesla still holds true.
 
This is what sells EVs. The 0-60 thing is silly. Reminds me of the mustang 5.0 in high school. Range and charging accessibility is the key.
I would think it's hard to know exactly what sells one car versus another. I mean, in general, statistically. People's preferences for things are all over the map. A fact that became that much more evident with the advent of the internet and our ability to see, so much more broadly, what makes people tick.

The auto manufacturers think they know. But they also don't often discuss it in any detail publicly. And I wonder, sometimes, how often they get it right. There have been some bonehead decisions by auto manufacturers over the years where the manufacturers wind up surprised that people hated some design decision, or some other feature of a new model.

I would actually expect ICEs to be far more likely to catch fire in an accident than an EV. Seeing as how they have a tank full of a highly combustible substance that can rupture and be exposed to sparks in certain kinds of accidents.

EVs are statistically much less likely to catch fire than ICEs and especially hybrids. So why did this battery catch fire? It’s odd.

Maybe you have a factual, educational, and non-defensive response?

It's odd that you find this odd, since you answered the question yourself. Statistically less likely does not mean 0 probability. EV's can obviously catch fire, and one did so in this case after slamming into trees. Not a shock to me.

Greatly simplifying things, but the increased container traffic to Terminal Island (Ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach) means lots of full containers sitting in the yards. The Ports are limiting how many empties are allowed back in until they can clear out enough of the full containers coming in. Note: Terminal Island is mostly import goods; relatively few items exported from So Cal. This will all be sorted out soon enough. Once the holiday rush is over.

Wtf are you talking about? I've not mentioned anything about ICE in this thread for weeks. You clearly aren't actually reading what people post in your excitement to post nonsensical tweets from people who don't matter. Try contributing to a discussion for once.

That doesn't solve the single point of failure issue. Just wait it out and let it be is not a solution.

You wrote "vaunted" which means excessive boasting or praise. "I'm a Porsche guy" is neither boasting nor praise, and isn't excessive in any way. Maybe you should focus on accuracy instead of doing your lost puppy act?

Activity to/from the ports will slow significantly in the coming months - the current mess will sort itself out soon enough. I'll be worried if this problem repeats again next year. Optimistic the logistics and transport companies will have everything worked out within six months. One wildcard: China policies, especially hardline Chicom crap that cuts trade.

that's my point. if the business model doesn't change, the risk of this situation repeating itself will always be there.
 
So I have owned a model 3 for a while now, and I really like the car and love the way it drives. However, there are way too many Tesla cultist, it is not a perfect vehicle by any means, and there are lots of places it could be improved.

Also got a chance to drive the mach e and that was also a really fun vehicle. With gas prices the way they are, if you drive a decent amount everyday, but total it’s under 300 miles, I’d def recommend an ev.
 
Between the huge demand and the parts/chips shortages, November 15 is the cutoff date. You only have to put down a refundable deposit to order one. Ordered mine through Larson Ford in Lakewood.

One of my neighbors got a model 3 after getting peer pressured by the other Tesla owners in the neighborhood. Said that it was a fine car... drives nice, he likes not needing to get gas, but wasn't seeing why everyone is raving about it like it's the best car ever.

Little things really. But parts on the interior are not made well and break easy, paint job is so so, so scratches pretty easy as well. The water seals around the doors comes off faster than it has in other cars I have had. Not huge deals, but for the price it’s frustrating.

I also think they went overboard with everything being on the touch screen. Slows use down to have to click multiple buttons when you want to manually turn on lights or blades.

Upside, I love how effortlessly electric cars accelerate and the responsiveness is great. A very smooth ride.

I own a Y; all these criticisms are fair. The first paragraph items are areas where Tesla needs to do better.

OTOH, I like everything being on the touch screen. I'll admit there are times where I get confused on finding items. Just saying that the touch screen gets easier as you start to remember where things are located. Some folks will like all the dials and buttons normally found in modern vehicle. I greatly prefer the minimalist approach.

You must know at this point a lot of things are voice activated. Push right scroll "turn on wipers", "I'm cold/hot", "initiate handjob"...etc
