OT: Electric vehicles

I actually meant trillions. Our current economic model will not survive the looming tech-driven socioeconomic disruption. Everett was kind of right. But not for much longer.

Don't ask me what exactly will happen. I just know that our economic cycle of build -> sell -> buy will grind to a halt and need to be replaced by something. What that something is I have no idea.

Well perhaps you can help me with another great imponderable. How can Musk be the CEO of Tesla and not be an employee?

Oh I can understand highly deceptive bovine excrement when I see it

Of course the question that can also be asked: Does he?
So not a serious response.

Thanks, I'll waste no more time considering your opinion on government accounting.

Bull. His response made it appear as if it mystically paid for itself out of thin air. Well it's DAMN SURE going to cost SOMEBODY something.

To be honest, it basically will wind up paying for itself out of thin air, in the long run. Or if you prefer to think of it another way, it'll get written off, eventually.

Trump kind of said something like that, and at the time, I was thinking what a dumb thing it was to say. And from the standpoint of scaring people who rely on the United States to pay its debts, it really was a dumb thing for a president to say.

But after having thought about it more, I've realized he was basically right. Just not right to have said it.

You really think we're going to pay off $29 trillion dollars anytime in the next century? Of course we're not.

We both probably won't be around IF and WHEN it is written off. But it doesn't have to be paid off over the next century. It just can't increase at warp speed the way it has over the past 2 years and with what's proposed for the next few.

Not really sure when it'll happen, other than sooner than most of us think. And I would think the term "write it off" won't be used explicitly. But the net effect will be the same as writing it off.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happens within my lifetime, assuming I live to be my parent's age (not necessarily a safe assumption for me, but I'll be optimistic). In fact I'd be mildly surprised if it doesn't happen by then.

It is the EV forum. Tesla is the dominant EV manufacturer. Giant big foot.
The lameness has zero to do with it being Tesla or some other EV or even non-EV brand. It's so amazingly lame to post that sort of thing. It would be lame to post that on a Tesla forum, but at least it'd be slightly understandable.

It would be lame for anybody to post such a tweet about any car and any celebrity. The only way it wouldn't be one of the lamest things ever is if it's entirely self-deprecating in some way. If it's funny.

"There is perhaps no phenomenon which contains so much destructive feeling as "moral indignation", which permits envy or hate to be acted out under the guise of virtue."
-Erich Fromm
LOL. says the guy who shows nothing but moral indignation over anything not glowing of your messiah. who spams the thread with utter dog crap (fitting of your handle) that contributes nothing to the discussion. who is dismissive of anything that any other carmaker does, but fawns over a joe nobody's tweets because they are just as in love with your messiah as you are.

This thing is hideous...the dark/unpainted fender flares are not attractive.

Was it Rembrandt or Da Vinci that designed the Tesla. Although in the long term it might turn out to be Picasso right after he finished "Guernica".

Rivlan currently has a market cap higher then Ford and GM. Have they sold a vehicle? Eventually reality is going to set in for these EV producers. Some will do well, although their current price is essentially what it should be in 2025. Some will not. But being trendy does not equate to being a good investment long term. Just look at what's happening to Beyond Meat in premarket.

they are shipping now.

I would need to see more photos to form an opinion. But I've never been particularly fond of Subaru styling. Subaru owners sure seem to love their cars, though.

And the price reflects everything going perfectly. What, in the real world of auto (ICE or EV) production and sales goes perfectly?
i'm assuming you mean stock price...price reflects that they have an exclusive contract with amazon. and the assumption that what amazon does, others will follow.

They have the contract, but the price assumes they deliver timely, at the estimated cost and with no recalls.

speaking of styling, the rivian's headlights are really not my cup of tea...but...a 3 second 0-60 pickup? niiiiice.

I know I've said this before, probably even in this thread. But having all these hyper-accelerating EVs is dangerous. Especially when it's large, heavy pickup trucks.

There was a time when sub-5s 0-60 times were fairly unusual in cars. Most of them were supercars that were expensive and exclusive enough that few people had them (and the owners would baby them). Or else they were aftermarket-built cars with drivers who worked too hard to build up the car's performance to not take care in how they're driven.

Now and then, some kid would wrap his car around a tree while trying to show off for friends. But it wasn't a frequent thing. Now, with EVs, we've got sub 3.5s cars (and trucks) becoming ubiquitous. Anybody can have one, they aren't expensive or hard to obtain.

Having that many fast-accelerating cars on the road, with far too many inexperienced or unprepared drivers, is a really bad idea.

you're probably right. but man, it's fun. wasn't there just an NHTSA investigation on a tesla in florida where some kid mashed the accelerator and wrapped the car around a tree?

I totally agree that a 3s Rivian is really cool and fun thing. Is like the Durango Hellcat. A ton of fun (well, more like 3 tons).

Not sure about the FL thing. But it's inevitable.

People will cause crashes getting onto the highway, at stoplights. Most people will probably exercise restraint. The percentage of numbnuts who can't drive isn't enormous. But the numbnuts percentage is a constant. So, as whatever that percentage of numbnuts purchases sub 3s EVs, the numbnuttiness becomes all that much more dangerous.

This just furthers my desire to see driving liberties limited to only a very few people (that I get to choose). 😃

The people without personality flaws would disagree with your assessment of my posting history. Feel free to provide evidence where I've spammed the thread. The fact of the matter is Tesla is the world leader in EV technology. People who are curious about EVs might want to know what separates Tesla from other EVs. Why that bothers you so much is only a question you can answer. Maybe you're afraid to ask.

you've offered nothing to the conversation but trolling posts to the discussion for many many pages now. people who are GENUINELY curious about EV's would also like to know about developments in the entire sector, as well as overall impact of the progress in this space, including potential pitfalls of our race to zero emissions. focusing on only Tesla is stupid because the auto industry is extremely decentralized and distributed. the global leader in market share, Toyota, only made up 8.5%. VW was just under 8%. the interest in this space should be about the EV sector, not just you and whichreligion's desire to give musk a virtual handjob on this board. if you want to start a thread about ONLY tesla, that's fine. go do that, but don't title it Electric Vehicles. your title thread was entirely disingenuous since you clearly don't want to talk about anything other than Tesla in this arena...and if you do, it's only to be dismissive of all things not tesla.

In what possible world is posting a tweet about some athlete driving a particular brand NOT spamming the thread? In every car forum I've participated in, and I've participated in lots over the years, you'd have been banned for those type of posts. Most have an area in which vendors are allowed to post. Most have an area in which forum members can post stuff for sale. But ALL have rules that prohibit people from excessive shilling for any particular preferred car or brand.

And that behavior bothers everybody who isn't a cultist for a particular brand. Which is why it's a bannable offense in most car forums.

You posting that sort of stuff provides no useful information to anybody. It's pure spam. It's you marketing your preference for a particular brand. You think Ritchie wants you engaging in free advertising on his website? I sure wouldn't. You want to buy ads, great. No freebies.

I've seen so many people like that get banned from automotive forums over the years. They just never get it. Talk about a personality disorder.
