OT: Electric vehicles

what about the sound of a small displacement 4 cylinder with a giant turbo?
I had a feeling I might get some push-back by leaving 4s out of that sentence. 😀

I've got a blown 4 and a twin-blown 6. There are sounds (induction sound, exhaust sound), but the turbos tend to modify the engine sounds a lot. Not that it's bad, and I particularly enjoy the flat 6. But it's not as spine-tingling, to me, as NA cars can be.

I really, really want a 4L NA 6 that revs to 9000rpm, ideally in RS form. The sound of those is just magical music to my ears.

I actually have dreams about that sound sometimes, stemming from a 991.2 RS screaming it's way up past the Long Valley Brew Pub on full throttle, PDK slamming through the gears, echoes reverberating across the valley, while I was enjoying an early lunch.

It was a moment of pure aural bliss that reached down into my soul and cradled it lovingly.

So similar to a story on page 67, I bit the bullet and bought a Model 3 long range as well. I have read enough of this chat to finally make a decision especially having drove my friends care recently and loving it.

I have only leased cars since college and this will be the first time I am buying a car-- cannot wait to get it in March! I recently drove a Infiniti QX50 and actually hated it so I am just looking forward to any new car but this will be fun.

As for my wife's car she drives a Mercedes SUV and I think it will be a long time before we ever move to 2 electric vehicles, if ever. Having my wall connector installed on Tuesday. I guess the 200k I made off of TSLA stock will get repurposed

Why not the Y? Seems like you are a SUV guy.

Yeah I thought of the Y but didn’t really need a second car as a SUV. I have had Audis S4 in the past and really only had this Infiniti for past few years as my wife was so over mileage on QX60 so worked out a deal where I got this one. Worked out for her since she got a Mercedes instead—smh

Congratulations!
Don't think it's been mentioned in this thread yet, but the Tesla sound system is epic. Hope you enjoy music.

Yeah I noticed that about the car when I first stepped foot in it. My current car has a Bose system which is top notch but I felt the Tesla actually sounded better when turned up

im just loving the idea of software updates that can improve the car in many ways—similar to an iPhone. I do realize the hardware will age but just a great concept

Maverick hybrid and gas versions have been so popular all 2022 sales ended on Thursday. They are completely maxed out. Apparently Ford underestimated how many people were going to jump on a smallish hybrid pick up for only $20,000. Orders for the 2023 model will begin in August. Hopefully, there will only be a modest increase.

Any reason Tesla is not doing what Ford is doing turning the vehicle into a backup generator?
The original roadster had vehicle to grid capabilities, but according to Tesla, no one really used it, so Tesla discontinued.

If I had to guess now, I would say Tesla would rather you bought a power wall.

I'm still amazed at the volume of different things that Tesla is able to improve with OTA software updates. Off the top of my head, these are some features that have improved with my model 3. I'm sure I'm missing a bunch too. All FREE.

Video games, streaming platforms, acceleration boost, cold weather improvements, UI, sound system, light show with music, range boost, voice commands, back up and side cameras, car security through surveillance and recording, waypoints, wiper sensors, phone app

**Edit** Full history of Tesla OTA software updates:

I would buy a Tesla if it had that capability. The Powerwall is too expensive compared to a gas power generator.

Great choice, I’m sure you’re gonna love it. Have had mine since September and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Climate science has come to the same conclusion across administrations from both parties across multiple decades.
So that's your bar for settled science?
If anyone believes in settled science they generally don't understand the meaning of science.

If you're trying to argue against what many scientists have concluded... please provide your evidence. Otherwise we can just dismiss you as another village idiot.

True, power wall ain't cheap, but it's intended to be used daily unlike a gas generator. Those considering should do some homework on lifetime savings.

EV + solar + power wall is the ideal set-up.

Ah, knew it wouldn't take long to hear the name calling. I didn't say what I believe.

I agree but the issue is all the upfront costs which create such a high entry for so many people. It’s crazy too bc there are so many benefits to the environment. You would think the govt would want to help in this space more to make it available to more people.

Couldn’t agree more, there are solutions out there but not a lot of interest in more than lip service. At the risk of making this too political, when the President won’t even say the name Tesla, we know there’s little hope they are interested in real solutions.

Musk doesn’t think government should get involved.

Be very wary of ordering an ev from Ford. They just crapped all over customers, me included, by pushing out arrival dates for orders with absolutely no explanation. My Mustang Mach E ordered on 6.26.21 went from a delivery of 1.21.2022 to 2.16.2022 to now 4.20.2022. so they will, perhaps, be delivering a 2021 car nearly five months in 2022. Ford’s lack of communication with customers, which is the real issue, is dreadful.

Sorry to hear.
Are you trying to communicate with the dealership or Ford directly?

I have always heard that the big mini-marts, Quick Check, Wawa, Bucees, Raceway, etc. make little from the gas they sell, that they make a lot on their overpriced sandwiches, snacks, soda, etc. When will they start putting in charging stations? As long as people stop, they shouldn’t really care why.

Many new Wawa’s and quick checks have Tesla super chargers. I’d imagine that trend continues

Haven’t noticed that yet around here which is odd because nearby Lakewood is like the Tesla capital of New Jersey. I have no idea why I see so many there.

I would also add that the same thing happened with my VW order. Too much demand and not enough supply.

Haven’t been down as far as Lakewood but the quick check off 195 in robbinsville has them. They’re headed your way .

Steve, I ordered a Maverick hybrid on October 30 and don’t expect it until May-August. I have called Ford Customer Service directly a couple times just to check in. Folks there are very nice. They MAY be able to give you some updates/reasons. The phone number is 800-334-4375. I am sure Ford is trying to make the Mustangs, Mavericks, and soon the Lightnings as fast as possible in the current parts , labor, and truck driver shortages. They want to get them to you as much as you want them to be in your hands.

The dealership is pretty helpless in this matter. They are hurting badly because they have very few cars on their lots.
This is the email I received from the sales person I’m dealing with. He handles on line orders.

“I understand your frustration, I am currently dealing with over 100 customers who have ordered accross the Ford product line, everything I read about supply chain shortages indicate we and other industries will have issues that most likely will continue in to 2nd quarter of 2023.

I am a commission only salesperson so imagine my angst having been used to having more inventory than we could sell to praying we get a few in that aren't spoken for that I can sell to a thirsty public.“

He suggested I put in an order for a 2022, in addition to the 2021 order, which can cost up to $2,000 more than the 2021.

Sorry to hear.

Thank you. I had already been in touch and have a case number. This was before the 4.20 extension. As an aside I can’t even access the current window sticker. The last one had the 2.16 date and that’s the one I called customer service inquiring on the status of my order.

I read on a message board ( who knows if it is true) that the Maverick is only made in one plant and that the demand is so huge that the plant is now running 24/7. Don’t know how many hours auto plants normally are open.

The Mach E is only made in one plant, in Mexico. It is then shipped by rail and delivered by truck. The whole process takes many weeks after the car is actually built.
