OT: Electric vehicles

Belly, you seem to know about Tesla, the company and the car. Do you know, once the Texas factory is completely open, what percentage of Teslas sold in America will be made here and what percentage made in Germany/Communist China. I am hoping it is close to 100 percent.

All Teslas sold in the USA are manufactured in the USA. Shanghai serves the Asian and European markets. You can find other tweets from this guy with lots of data on Tesla sales, both actual sales numbers and forecasts.

The Fremont factory (California) = western half of the US.
Austin = eastern half US.
Germany = Europe
Shanghai = China and export to the rest of the global market.

Since S and X are only manufactured in Fremont, and there are no plans to expand production of these models in any of the other factories, there will be some US made S and X sold for export. But, these are low volume vehicles, and the vast majority of these models are still sold in the US.

Teslas are the most American-made vehicles you can buy.

The title "most American car" is given because Tesla outsources less than any other auto manufacturer. Most of the parts in Tesla vehicles are manufactured by Tesla rather than suppliers. Not 100%, but more than anyone else.

Thanks lol, but Tesla doesn't have dealerships. Direct sales. All Tesla stores (deliveries and service) are owned and operated by Tesla. Order your car online, pick up at the store. No negotiations.
No idea why so many in Lakewood, but I'm definitely seeing more and more everywhere.
 
Can’t remember where I read it, but one of the car companies is talking about selling vehicles at a reduced price with no final paint color. Folks would just buy it and then pick out whatever color they wanted from local paint shops. So if someone could find a place that would paint it aqua, teal, salmon, etc. they could do it. Anything that reduces the number of black and a zillion shades of gray on the road is a plus .

The attacks on Tesla will only intensify as they increase volume and continue to take market share away from the other manufacturers. You would think some of the politicians who scream climate change would come to their defense - but they won't. The public demand for their cars is Tesla's best defense.

I have 2 relatives with Tesla vehicles who love them. I am neither anti or pro at the moment but I do believe my next car purchase will be an EV of some kind

First opened by GM in 1962, then operated by NUMMI (join venture with Toyota). They have made huge investments to expand that facility. But it seems California is not making the State a friendly place for Tesla to do business.

No reason to be anti-Tesla. No reason to be pro-Tesla either. Choosing one or the other provides zero benefits to anybody.

It's a car company. Just like every other car company. None of them deserve worship, adulation, idolatry, loyalty, free-marketing, etc.

Political donation $$$ takes top priority. Fossil fuel industry, legacy auto, unions, dealership networks....

Doing what's right? It's somewhere on the list.... I hope.

Fremont is staying put. Tesla has relocated their cooperate headquarters from Ca. to Tx.

In retrospect, piecing together an old factory wasn't the best idea as the Fremont factory is grossly inefficient production wise compared to Shanghai, and soon to be Austin and Berlin. The latter 3 where designed by Tesla from the ground up. Shanghai has already surpassed Fremont in production. Elon said something to the effect that Fremont production is a mess, but it's a mess we understand.

For the heck of it, I went on a website to check out colors they offer. Surprised to see a fair amount—all I ever see are black and white, with a few silver now and then. I saw one dark blue in a guys driveway and actually drive back to double check if it was a Tesla. I have not seen one of these other colors.

White is no added cost. I think black is an extra $1,000 and the other colors cost an extra $2,000+. Going on memory with these numbers.

Totally agree!! That guy is completely wrong. The serious attacks are coming directly from the federal government and its media ho's. And Elons move yesterday will only make it worse. In the short term providing internet access to Ukraine through his starlink system will be met with praise. Long term - governments (including the US) will be deathly afraid of an internet provider that can't be controlled or attacked.

Disruption creates enemies. There are many powerful entities from both sides of the aisle that wished Tesla didn't exist. It took President Biden 2+ years before he said the word "Tesla", while giving GM false valor for leading the EV revolution.
 
Yikes ! No way would I pay extra for a color. How much could the color difference cost in material ? Maybe $6.19 ?
Other car makers do the same - at all price points. Maybe not quite as expensive, but they do charge extra for the non standard colors.
 
But not for ANY color other than white lol. By the way, the Tesla’s I have seen look best in white anyway.
 
For you guys who have been big hybrid/electric guys for years, every new company who starts making them must make you feel like I did the day we were invited into the Big Ten after decades of being a Rutgers fan. I thought I was going to start crying happy tears.
 
As expected, another TSLA wannabe tanks:

$170k for laggy software and an incomplete ADAS system. Not good.
They originally guided for 6,000 deliveries in 2021. Revised to 577. Actual = 125.
I'm doubtful they hit 10k this year.
But hey, they delivered 5X more EVs than GM in Q4.
