OT: Electric vehicles

so market manipulation rules that have been in place for years shouldn't apply to elon? and safety rules that apply to every other automaker shouldn't apply to tesla? gtfoh.
Alpha men like Elon should not be held back by the rules of mere mortals.

For those on this thread that still think the legacy auto companies are not in big trouble and seriously concerned about their futures here is some info from Automotive news on Ford's announcement to split the company in two - hats off to Farley and Ford. Problems can't be fixed if you can't acknowledge that you have a problem.

(“Our legacy organization has been holding us back,” Farley said on a Wednesday conference call. “We had to change.”

Ford also said it's planning big changes for its dealer body: The automaker wants a certain number of retailers to "opt-in" to selling EVs under a new set of standards that will include carrying no inventory, selling at nonnegotiable prices and being held to fewer facility requirements.). sound familiar???

And those are the easy things to fix - wait until they need to compete with Tesla's current manufacturing advantages - Ford has a chance but it is going to be really tough. GM is toast.

The president giving false valor to GM and Ford as the "leaders of the EV revolution". Telling Mary Barra, "You did it! You electrified the entire industry" The president and members of the administration forbidden to say the word "Tesla" publicly for over 2 years. If that isn't corruption, I don't know what is.
Politics maybe. Corruption is more like Tesla buying Solar City.

Agree that Ford is in a much better position than GM. The Mach-E and the Lightning look like winners if they can turn a profit making them. The leadership at GM is a joke and I don't really see their EV lineup as desirable. Interesting quote by Farley in that Ford will continue to invest in ICE. Not sure why they'd pour resources into a dying business.

If people are buying, Ford will keep selling them what they want until there's no more buyers to be had.

Sure, just politics when legislation is proposed/enacted based on political donations.
Because legislation was never proposed/enacted based on political donations before Tesla was founded? No?

Because Tesla has no money to spend on political donations? No?

Ah... because expecting Elon/Tesla to play by the same rules, operate within the same system, as everybody else is totally unfair. Now I understand.

There you go creating your own narrative again. Pointless discussing anything with you. All of those long, lonely drives and ICE fumes have cause brain damage.

Have any experts or publications done a projected transition model from ICE to EV in the US? Based on sales, in what year will EVs make a serious dent in the marketplace? And, at what point, will customers refuse to buy ICE vehicles out of fear they are soon to be obsolete?

Come on. It’s not like Tesla got off the ground w/o government assistance.
Whatever assistance they received was available to any other EV manufacturer. Don't know of any legislation proposed because of Tesla's political donations, do you?
Contrast that with the proposal for an additional $4,500 credit for UNION made vehicles, or some states trying to ban the direct sale of vehicles, and my favorite...West Virginia trying to ban OTA software updates. Nothing to see there, right? Just "politics"..lol

Think you proved my point it’s all politics.

It’s pointless discussing stuff with me because I keep blowing gaping holes in the nutty persecution-complex narratives coming from the Teslarati.

And while I prefer lonely drives because I can drive very fast without fear of causing a passenger to have a panic attack and/or vomit and/or pee themselves, I do sometimes cave and take someone along for the drive. But that usually entails having to stop somewhere and eat or, worse, shop (oooh, Mildone, look at that cute farmer’s market and look at that antique shop, etc.) 🤮. And it also means I wind up have to converse instead of focusing on the driving, forcing lame slow-ass driving.

That’s the sort of thing a nice quiet EV is good for. Focusing on conversation or antique shopping, not driving. 😉

Just a guess with the Everest, but Ford already has a three row van so maybe they think it is a duplication in America. The styling, of course, is completely different. For the Ranger, all new versions are coming very soon, might even be this Fall. I actually really like the current Ranger, just a little too much in regards to cost for me. Now, if my Maverick hybrid would just come in before gas hits $7 gallon ! Wawa and Quick Check gas are up to $3.75 now. Yikes !!!

I really don’t know much about this Musk guy, but if he made his money legally and Tesla is an Americana car company building cars in America with American parts, I don’t know what the problem is? The cars aren’t the most stylish, but other than the Cybertruck, they aren’t horrible like the Scion cube or the Pacer. Unless he pays his employees minimum wage , has them work in polluted factories, makes them work on Christmas, forced overtime, lousy pensions, etc., I don’t see what the problem is. Better to buy from this guy than something from a foreign company that is made in Japan or Germany.

Musk = JoePa of the auto industry

The problem is Tesla is upsetting the establishment. They represent change. Dealership networks, auto unions, legacy auto, and the fossil fuel industry are all about to be disrupted. They don't like this, and they're using their political influence to retard these changes.
And yes, I agree 100% with you. Tesla represents an American success story. A global beacon of American innovation. Employing American workers on American soil. They should be celebrated, not demonized.
Unfortunately, many, many jealous people out there too. Look no further than the desperate, lonely incels in this thread.

Thought half of the cars sold by Tesla are made in China.

Just got an email from Ford. I’m shutout on the F150 Lighting for the 2022 production. Still no word yet on my ID4 either.

LOL.

Huh ? Paterno allowed staff to molest dozens of children over a ten year period in Penn State facilities ? Musk is allowing that too ?
Not that aspect. More in that he's revered and idolized by devout followers, despite his misgivings and flaws (and maybe his disdain for the rule of law) , while the rest of the world sees him as a regular person that's done some nice things, but isn't worth worshipping.

We should take time out to acknowledge the rise and canonization of Musk in our lifetimes. The US is one of the few prominent world societies to elevate a non politician, military or religious leader to such a vaunted position. Musk is the latest in a long line of American entrepreneurs, scientists, or inventors to take on a national mythical status. The last one that approached the reach that Musk has would be Thomas Edison I imagine.

If Musk only had Tesla it would not be the same. The fact that SpaceX is turning the aerospace industry on its head gives everything he's doing gravitas. His very public statements of wanting to make humans a multi-planet species backed up by massive amounts of money and ground breaking engineering has afforded him all kinds of political and social/cultural clout. The fact that SpaceX, and to a lessor extent Starlink, are performing as designed only reinforces the belief that Musks vision of the future is not only achievable but within our grasp.

Elon is that you?
