OT: Giants vs Eagles

Stop. There's a bunch of calls that can go either way in every NFL game. Maybe if Eli doesn't throw a pick six in the first that play doesn't matter.

So in all of your years of football watching you have never seen a game decided by one or two bad calls by the officials ? That roughing-the-passer call on Eli Apple was a particularly bad joke. The fact that it was followed by the Eagles third td....just as the Giants were turning things around...was awful and impactful. Yeah, lots of other things contributed to it being a rough night for the visitors.
But if you don't think that the officiating can affect the outcome of a game you are watching a different game than I am.

So the Giants played great and it's all on the refs, correct?

Don't see it. Clearly he began the hit in time as Wentz might have pulled the ball in. The penalty must have been for taking him to the ground too hard. But he doesn't even know if Wentz has the ball or not as his head is behind Wentz' back. He simply follows through with the tackle. It's rough, but don't see the penalty.

The pass interference call, on the other hand was clear. Hated Collinsworth's notion of "It's the fourth quarter, so you don't call it." That is incredible BS. When do you bury the flag? Halfway through the fourth? Last three minutes?

Worst call of the day was the roughing on Apple. What was he supposed to do? Terrible officiating. But the Giants played poorly. Deserved to lose. Beckham dropping the ball and Eli making some terrible throws.

But, Jints will likely make the playoffs, and the Eagles will continue to be a non-factor in the NFL postseason. When was the last time they won it all? Who was president?
Eagles suck but anytime a qb hits their had like that the call is being made wether it's right or wrong

Too bad we never had Malcolm here. If Flood were head coach back then I'm sure we could have gotten him

Yeah like all the other Top 10 NJ Recruits that Elmer got during his 4 years here.
Only one recruit over 4 years. That's One in Forty. One heck of a HC that Fudd was.

Ya you've seen the qbs head get driven into the ground and him being concussed 50x this season where it wasn't called ? What qbs ?

1) there was NO "drive" into the ground. It was a fair tackle that began while the QB was in process of releasing the ball, plain and simple, as has been discussed ad naseum on TV last night and today.

2) he wasn't "concussed," he passed all protocols, so let's not make shit up, okay?

You can be bias all you want there's no other play where a qb hit his head like that this season that hasn't been called except cam

I'm not being bias. My team lost the game, period, nothing is going to change that. Those 2 comments you just quoted are factual, however, and nothing is going to change my mind. That was a HORRIBLE call. Essentially, as far as that crew is concerned, you can't tackle the QB at all. The fact that his head HAPPENED to hit the ground should not automatically equate to a penalty nor does it in every instance. The officials THOUGHT it was a bad/illegal play, they were wrong, that's all.

Nothing worse than crying about refs.

Thats your opinion

I happen to be someone who likes to expect accountability from people and have them do their jobs. That's why they get evaluated.

But that's okay you can say i am crying about it

Wether it's the right call or not it's always called all you can ask for is consistency, the pass interference you have an argument about that should have been called, and was a miss, that would be called in any other situation, the qb play would always be called that way, I watch at least 5 nfl games a week every time the qb hits his head there's a penalty called right or wrong the league is consistent

As long as the rest of the world is calling it a bs call, I'll stick with that, and move on.

Well the Giants had 50 yds. of penalties which is about normal for any NFL team. The Eagles were called for 1 penalty for 5 yds. That's right 5 total yds. of penalties and they had to call the false start couldn't let that one go. The Giants got called for the infractions(some not warranted), the Eagles got called for one. The Giants played like crap but it's undeniable the ref's helped the outcome. I highly doubt this crew does any playoff games.

The foul isn't called because of when contact was initiated. It's called because, after the ball was released, the defender drove the QB into the ground instead of letting up. Yes, it is always called. And yes, you'd want it called if it was Eli.

He didn't "drive" him into the ground. It was all a one-move tackle. That's it and there's no way in hell the defender is/can "let up" on that play. Watch it again. Awful call and, NO, I would NOT have wanted that called if it were Eli, to be 100% honest.

Now don't get me wrong, there are plays that deserve that flag because there is obvious intent to not let up, which can be dangerous, but not THAT play, sorry, can't agree. Might as well make the rule "the QB can NEVER be touched while in the pocket."

I thought it was a good game. It's funny, when you watch those two teams, forgetting about the records, just watching that one game, the Eagles would appear to be the better team other than Beckham and Collins who are outstanding. And you also realize that in the first meeting, the Eagles "lost it" as they did throughout the season in tight games.

I'll add that referees do sometimes make mistakes, but I didn't really have a quarrel with much they did last night.

Bottom line: the better team won last night.

Nuts is right here. QBs heads hit the ground all the time. The tackler merely continued his legitimately initiated tackle in a normal fashion. Didn't whip or slam the QB into the ground. His head hit the ground because the tackler properly wrapped up both the QB's arms.

Think of it this way. What if Wentz had kept the ball? Surely it wouldn't have been roughing then. Would it have been an illegal tackle? The commentators (both on TV and on the board) are looking at the consequences of the tackle and not the tackle itself, which was perfectly legit. The notion that Wentz' head hit the ground making it roughing the passer would fundamentally change the game.

Bad call. Call on Apple was even worse. And the no interference was a game changer.

Nuts: see post above yours. Agree with you after re-watching.
You know how many people on ths board never would have re-watched or never admitted they were wrong? props.

I am not a particularly rabid Giants or NFL fan, but I opened this thread late because I thought there was some frequent no-calls on Philly and bad calls against the Gints. Wanted to see what others thought.

And now, on Monday night, we root for the Cowboys to beat the Lions. . . .

You do what you have to do. . . .

The Apple call was the one I thought was about as ridiculous as any I've seen. Go back and watch the replay on that and tell me he did anything worthy of a penalty. It's a different game today and I know they wanna protect the quarterback, but that call was a joke.
And yes, although the Giants did enough to lose that game on their own it was still a ridiculous call.

No need for management babble. Crying is crying. Bottom line is the Giants played like crap and put themselves in a position to be impacted by questionable calls (not all of which were questionable). If you want to talk about accountability, the discussion starts with the Giants.

The Giants really played poorly in the first quarter. And then the passing game was iffy for most of the game. Too many drops and too many bad throws. Giants deserved to lose, but still would have won had it not been for three really bad calls/no calls.

Okay, so you do agree the Giants should have lost and all the talk about refs is just noise and fine whine from Giants fans? We're all Rutgers fans so it is possible for us to agree.

No....the Giants should have won. And Eagles fans are almost as dumb as mets fans.
Go watch the play where Eli Apple got called for roughing your fragile quarterback and then come back here and tell everybody what contact Apple actually made with your rookie signal caller.
BTW, can you also tell me how many Super Bowls the Eagles have won ?
Yeah....that's what I thought.

Okay here we go with the Super Bowl thing yet again. I live in the present. You played like crap when you had a chance to clinch against a 6-9 team. You lost. Refs could never help you. Own it.

Even Jets fans can talk about Joe Willie and 1969.
The Eagles.....Zip....nada....nothing.
True losers.

Dude, you're acting like an ass, gloating about a team you don't play for, mad about referees in a game you didn't play in. Yea, the Eagles haven't won a Super Bowl. I'm cool with that. I woke up today happy and fulfilled without one. And yes, I know the Giants won a few some years back, and maybe that really does give you some sense of happiness to this day because maybe there hasn't been much else in your life in the last 5 years. But on Thursday, I was watching a game live. And the Eagles were easily the better team that night, and they won. And I derived a small bit of happiness from that. The fact that your bitter, sour, ugly attitude comes out when your team gets beaten and you need to cry about refs and point to the past is honestly very sad, and something I haven't done since I was about 23. Maybe you need to get off the couch and find something to be happy about.
