OT: Horrible terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Years.

Status
Not open for further replies.
Last I read the FBI was not calling it a terrorist attack (at least not yet), though I think the New Orleans mayor did. And I’m not sure dailymail in UK would be in the know on that. We’ll see what information comes about.

Tragic. Similar to what happened at a German Christmas market near Berlin ~10 days ago. Public gatherings need to have a well-protected perimeter preventing this…easier said than done.

Well-protected perimeter, does using metal bike racks count especially after the recent Germany incident? This was reported as their idea of protection for those gathered. along with 300 police around the partyers. Fox News is reporting the FBI HAS stated it's terrorism, how could it be anything else? Reported that he had a gun in the truck and when the truck was stopped he opened fire at police injuring 2 officers.

Random nutjob school shooter type is also still a possibility.

I was in Times Square last night and while they don't let cars get within two blocks of the gathering area for the all drop, the barriers themselves seemed relatively "soft."

To me, "terrorism" has a political context... it could just be a psychotic violent lunatic trying to take as many out as he can as he seeks his own death. New Year.. no new hope for him.. maybe drugs involved.. who knows?

You are correct….I’m now seeing across multiple media outlets that the FBI is treating this as an act of terrorism.

I’m over in Europe currently and have been for the past 2+ weeks….Switzerland, France, Germany & UK. Been through more Christmas markets than one can imagine and I’ve definitely kept an eye out of perimeter and security measures, especially after the attack in Germany. You can take precautions like bike racks, barricades, increased security, etc….but at the end of the day, a guy hell bent on killing will find a way to do it. Cars can be one means, but I gotta say….after walking through many markets, if a car doesn’t work, a good old-fashioned knife would do a lot of damage before the ahole is restrained.

what a terrible way to start the new year...these attacks like this using a vehicle are happening more and more across the globe.

They peaked 2015-2017 but actually had almost stopped completely since 2020. This year represents a new uptick although I don't think it's still related to a larger movement the way the ISIS inspired attacks of the mid 2010s were.

walls help.. but help only.. cannot count on them

Apparently his name is Shamsud Din Jabbar and he didn't come across the border as he's not only born in Texas but served in the US Army.

The suspect accused of killing at least 10 people and injuring 30 Wednesday morning in New Orleans has been preliminary identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, according to three senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter.

It just might.
ISIS inspired attack apparently…based on a flag the guy had.
I believe the US just killed the ISIS leader a couple of weeks ago in Syria
yeah.. some are saying isis makeshift flag was on pole at back of truck.. as well as rumors of him coming over boarder at Eagle Pass 2 days ago. But who knows what's true these days. Anyone who ants to use such tragedy to advance their causes can start rumors easily.

Apparently some guns were stolen from NJ that the terrorist had.

Also others involved - not just the parasite who was terminated !

No but hopefully it will prevent more of the illegals who have been terrorizing the country
Forget about the wall...I don't care either way...but let's say all illegal immigrants weren't here, how much of a dent in crime do you think it would make? Or are you specifically referring to international terrorists committing acts of terror on us soil?

Folks, I've cleaned this thread up, let's keep it focused on the terrorist attack itself and stop the tangential slide into politics with NYC, border walls, Biden, Hochul, Trump, invoking the CE Board, etc., etc. I'm looking at you Rutgers NJ, kbee3, newell138, BossNJ, BIGRUBIGDBIGredmachine, RUbacker, Postman_1, Salvi's Headband, MADHAT1, Ronnie_B, etc.

I feel this is important news that we can discuss free of politics since it represents a horrific act against our citizens on our home ground. Let's keep it civil and non-political. Please.

You conveniently forgot your buddy Bac, as well as a few others. If you’re gonna name names, at least try to appear like you’re neutral.

Actually no I didn't. bac made NO political posts in this thread, especially any that I had to delete. Please stop trying to make this a CE Board cage match: this is an incident that affects us ALL, just like 9/11. If you look at my list, I include people who posted in this thread from both sides of the political spectrum.

New Orleans truck attack suspect identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar (NBC News)
Terrorist was born in the USA ,according to this.
Domestic terrorisim is a problem and the terrorists find many causes to use when killing the innocent.
But lets not jump to conclusions on any report coming out of New Orleans, let all the facts be gathered before
acting like the opinions we have from what we have learned, so far, is the whole story and let all the facts come out before we start ranting about the whys and wherefores connected to this trajic attack that cost innocent lives
>According to preliminary information, Jabber, a U.S. citizen born in Texas, had a black flag affixed to the hitch of the pickup truck he allegedly drove into the crowd. Officials are investigating whether that flag is related to the terrorist group ISIS, two senior law enforcement officials said.<

Flying an Isis flag would kind of seal the deal on terrorist

Read a couple of articles saying game was postponed and will be played on Thursday Night
edit:
This was in one of the articles I read
>Jabbar, 42, is a U.S. citizen from Texas, according to the FBI. He drove a F150 that he rented in Texas on a carsharing app, according to authorities.<
