Maybe I was a little harsh about Dallas but it is this weird place because it is so “new”. It wants to be cool NY but wants to look fashionable LA. So you see the guys riding down take your pick of fake urban centers. Legacy west for example in his Ferrari and then another Ferrari which is followed by a Lamborghini while they look at the girls sitting outside wearing too much makeup carrying the new trendy handbag. Everyone drives from their mega mansion which is squeezed into a tiny plot of land with small backyard to a giant parking garage at their job that was stolen from the north or is the American operations of a foreign company to go back to their car to go eat at jack n the box, Jason’s deli or chipotle for lunch.
I have spent a decent amount of time in Dallas traveling for work and spent a lot of time there in my early 20s partying and 40s working.
It just feels like a place with no soul that takes culture, jobs and trends from everywhere else.
New Jersey has a soul. Pittsburgh has soul. New York has Soul. Heck even Fort Worth Texas as some soul. Dallas is a giant sprawling mess of gobbled up prairie where you shop, eat, drink and try and keep up with the jonses.
Old money highland park is beautiful and some of the fake lake areas but the other areas. Not that great.
Do you think we ever find those 6million+ sloJoe voters that didn't show up for Camela? You know what is funny…The Trumpsters May not realize that the blabbering idiot with dementia actually beat Trump the first time.

He loves to bluster . Some interpret that as BS .The facts point to exactly what you jut posted. People have to understand he has always been this way yet he as you say, “ produces” and gets things done for the most part. I know what you were saying but many others just dislike Trump for no sane reasoning. Other than the fact he wasn’t in their group of career politicians. He turned their private world upside down and still he is back stronger and better. AOC and BS attempting to gin up their constituents by claiming the big bad boogey man is a threat to regular Jean and Joes. “ The Oligarchy “ … learned that term in 5th - 6th grade…. Today that references Billionaires while she and BS are only multi millionaires. Talk about out of touch.
Unemployment lasts 6 months. Anyone about to run out got fired under your boy sleepy joe. #nottarriffsI’m not feeling any despair but I feel bad for the people posting on LinkedIn looking for jobs, and recent layoffs on Reddit, whose unemployment either has already run out, or is about to run out. People are really going through a tough time. Farmers are also having difficult issues due to recent events.
And maybe I was a little harsh on you and Pittsburgh. But as noted, this young family who spent most of their lives in the NYC area and Philadelphia absolutely love it in Dallas. This guy plays on in an adult baseball league, and he said there is a great mix of transplants from all over on this team. I spent time in Dallas over 30 years ago, and it is different now, but I remember positive things about Dallas.Maybe I was a little harsh about Dallas but it is this weird place because it is so “new”. Was with you on the first two paragraphs, then you lost me. A lot of old video clips circulating on various social media sites when Pres Obama was cutting the size of the government and lots of jobs, and same for the Clinton/Gore administration. Pres Obama and Pres Clinton were fantastic orators. They could sell something even if it was something really crappy, and give people a happy feeling. Both came across as folksy and down to earth.Trump has long been known to like to use WWF's inflated speaking style - also borrowed by first rappers . Trump used to appear in WWF matches. People say that in person he's very mild mannered and good natured.
Trump also has an authoritarian manner that cracks some people's psyches open. If a guy speaks out boldly, with confidence and indifference to people's opinions, it makes some people resentful and resentment is a building block in fixations. Deion does the same thing with his deliberate "Prime" persona he invented at FSU.
Plus - in the simplest construction - the human psyche has male and female aspects. Politically the left is more feminine - its more emotional and they act as if they want to nurture people (its "for the children" etc). No surprise the base is mostly women - its the mommy party politically. The right is the daddy party that has more male voters and isn't arty, romantic etc. There's an old expression - "Women are poetry and men are deeds."
A lot of people have/had father issues and Trump touches that buried nerve in some. On 2016 a Hollywood therapist wrote about it:
"Clinical psychologist Philip Pierce says he was swamped with complaints from patients after Trump won. “It’s a traumatic experience,” he says. “The level of threat — or perceived threat — has gone up. I think you’ll see an increase in panic attacks.” Beyond general dissociative anxiety, some therapists say that the election also has been a trigger for patients with authority issues going back to their childhoods. “[Trump] has triggered certain responses of inadequacy from patients, and a lot of times the people that I see have had very authoritarian fathers,” explains Shaw. “Trump can be seen as this really intense father figure.”

That's it right there. I went through it myself with Reagan
Point isn’t that tariffs caused the layoffs, which they ultimately will once implemented. It's that the prospect of tariffs is making it more difficult to find a job, because companies are waiting and seeing.Unemployment lasts 6 months. Dude, I enjoy a lot of your posts which are usually very thoughtful. But respectfully, the bit about the left wing being mainly for "artsy" chicks and the right wing being mainly for "decisive" dudes (oversimplification intended) is some of the wildest amateur psychology and baseless stereotyping that I've seen in a while.Plus - in the simplest construction - the human psyche has male and female aspects. Pittsburgh, IMO, is the most underrated east coast cityAnd maybe I was a little harsh on you and Pittsburgh. Definitely agree that NJ has soul and character, and characters. We spend a lot of time in Arizona, and at times, it feels a little bland. Will give Pittsburgh some major props for food. Vaguely remember at the airport some chain had a kickass kielbasa sandwich.
Will have to ask my colleague what particular part of Dallas they are living in.
Clinton could relate to the everyday man (and woman) - genuinely seemed like a good hearted, down-to-earth guy you'd like to have a beer with at a backyard bbqWas with you on the first two paragraphs, then you lost me. Trump is bombastic, in your face, take no prisoners. Every failure or mistake is someone else's fault, ignored, or glossed over with how great he is doing in another area. The Teflon Don was a good moniker for him.

Dallas is a strange place IMOThere are only 2 places in the world I think of as ugly - Afghanistan and Texas.
Dallas from the air looks awful.
Before Texas was a state, Mexico couldn't get anyone to settle in the area. They recuited Americans to come to the area
"In order to settle Texas in the 1820s, the Mexican government allowed speculators, called empresarios, to acquire large tracts of land if they promised to bring in settlers to populate the region and make it profitable. Moses and Stephen Austin contracted to bring "500 families on the vacant lands remaining within the limits of the colony already established." The contract stipulates that "The families which are to compose this Colony besides being industrious as he offers in his petition must be Cat[ho]lics, and of good morals." Stephen Austin established dozens of communities and brought thousands of settlers into the Mexican province of Texas. While Austin was loyal and committed to the Mexican Republic, by the early 1840s he was leery of the unstable Mexican government and advocated for the independence of Texas."

Love seeing different cities and the vibes thereKudos to Jaydog's / RU to the Core's general discussion on cities (I also love Pittsburgh, and feel like some of the newer southern cities are soulless extensions of northern cities), and also Ashokan's discussion of Texas. So interesting...
Went to Dallas this fall for red river rivalry. Absolutely loved it. We stayed by highland park close to SMU. Was awesomeDallas is a strange place IMO
Like you said, no soul and a ton of transplants
I put in in the Atlanta category
Fun city, lots to do, but... can't put my finger on it, but it's almost like I can't figure out what sets them apart
Philly
NYC
Boston
Pittsburgh
Nashville
Miami
Seattle
LA
Vegas
All distinctive in what they're about
Can't figure out Dallas for the life of me
Burbs / outskirts are solidWent to Dallas this fall for red river rivalry. Absolutely loved it. We stayed by highland park close to SMU. Was awesome
Yea…My company’s HQ is in McKinney…it’s ok…nothing to write home about but not terrible eitherBurbs / outskirts are solid
City itself kinda meeehh IMO
So once again al I ask this question….you ‘re ok with the billions of wasted tax dollars hidden over 5 previous administrations while you and others preach to Rutgers alums and fans about the financial deficit of our athletic programs? Laying out billions of tax payer dollars to others who are not entitled to them is one a big reason . This current job situation occurs when people who are supposedly elected to office fail to do their due diligence and squander it in places for their own personal piggy banks. It wasn’t caused by this current group in office. People , if they’re tough enough , and resolute enough will find other areas to explore. Highly educated college graduates should understand the real reason for this and it ain’t tariffs…Point isn’t that tariffs caused the layoffs, which they ultimately will once implemented. Ummmm, why did the trophy come apart when he simply picked it up? 🙄Everything is falling apart with this administration.
What's next? Saw this on LinkedIn- must be true!

There is nothing wrong with having differences of opinion but this has deteriorated more and more each decade . The sad part is seeing my generation out there thinking they’re still back in 1967-68… now we have the exact situation Europe has had to deal with Visa guests and illegal border crossers attempting to cause harm, shutdown speech all through the threat of violence.Unfortunately, most people are sheep
Hard-core, entrenched, and quasi brainwashedRepublicans and Democrats alike would be flipping out if the other party was pulling this kind of stuff, and accusing them of lying, hiding money, not knowing what they’re doing, etc.
Real talk here, if anyone actually is looking at what Trump is doing on a hole, and not judging from a political spectrum, overall so far, he has done a pretty bang up job
As usual, though, he continues to say stupid shit, lie out of his ass, exaggerate, and double down when either something is not working, or blame people immediately if it’s his mistake
I do not give two shits about what he says, who he blames, or anything else. My only concern is results and what is ultimately best for the country, and my family.
Others, however, and rightfully so as everyone is entitled their opinion, do care. What he fails to realize that their vote counts as much as my vote, and the things he does that are unpresidential often times over shadow all the good that he does.
Time will tell if these tariffs will work, but nobody on here, at least of all myself, or especially any of the Talking Heads on TV, know how they will ultimately play out
People lauding them as the best thing ever as well as people saying they’re the worst thing ever are the two worst culprits. He just initiated them recently and nobody has any idea what the hell the future will hold.
Best bet is the sit back and see what happens, without getting too excited or through depressed either way. Turn off the damn cable news and like KN said yesterday go take a walk or get some exercise. We are the greatest country in the world and will continue to be that hopefully for the rest of our lifetime on our children / grandchildren lifetime as well.
“diseritation?”Tell it to the attention seeker who initiated the politicial diseritation
Democracy was at its peak when a guy w/dementia was running the country, masquerading as a president while allowing 15 million illegals into the country and printing money like it was candy to prop up the economy
Democracy was certainly redefined when that ice cream eating potato was unceramonsily removed from the election (after one of, if not the most pathetic debates any of us have ever seen) by the same people who assured us he was in pristine condition and was replaced with the candidate who, even with receiving no votes in the primary, turned out to be worse than the mentally declining guy in charge
Keep it up though
Keep calling people cultists
Dumb
Racists
Idiots
Bigots
Etc.
Don't let me, or anyone else, try to alter that playbook
It is funny when a Trumper calls out anyone else's eating habits. But at least Trump is a fantastic golfer- wonderful, he has not lost a single round or tourney either while he has been President or when he plays at the Country Club with his name on it...Good things all the photos of him and Epstein were obviously fake or he had no idea that Epstein also liked young girls.
I can only speak for myself but I couldn't and can't stand Biden and did not like Harris either. Besides all of Biden's other faults- giving German Shepherds a bad name just pissed me off to no end. The man should not be allowed to own a dog.
But using them as a comparison is just a lazy way out.
The the Democratic party had anyone else but Harris- they would have crushed Trump. And again, that was because of Biden.
says the guy who voted for a potato and the queen of word salads. Your lack of self awareness is astonishing.
I suggest you get your head out of the sand from the View and MSNBC. I prefer to do my own research from various sites and don't watch sensationalized TV news. Simply look up the various NGO's that recently shutdown on their own accord once the gig was up and you'll find what they were actually spending money on. Money that came from one source, the Federal Gov't, not private funding. It wasn't to help the poor and needy.
Oh and how's that inflation reduction act doing? You know the one that had nothing to do with inflation or it's reduction. Want the numbers on how much that one cost each American taxpayer?
At the end of the day if we wind up with better tariff arrangements with 70 countries, what then?
This and Al's post about customizing your resume for each application...That is a big NO NO NO - AI and good recruiters will pick up on this almost immediately. It is good to ask chatgpt to compare your resume and the JD and if you are missing anything or that you should highlight certain experiences. But NEVER use chatgpt to to match keywords. Also- if and when using AI to write your resume for a job- tell it very specifically, not to change any details.chatgpt is great for this. Submit resume and your cv and watch it work its resume magik. You can churn out solid customized resumes and cover letters in about 10-15min of iteration per job posting.
it is only in response to the trumpettes that like to use Biden as a comparison to their great leader. What’s that have to do with anything happening today?

Overall, this has been a really interesting thread, which I don't usually say about the political posts. Both tribes are mostly attempting to make points responsibly...
you are assuming that we know what the definition of a woman is. Apparently that's not so easy for some these days.I think it was Einstein who said the simplest truths are the hardest to see.
Just a breakdown of college majors shows the difference - women dont like engineering as much as men and men don't go for social work. 82& of social workers are women. On a basic level women are for babies and children and men are for hunting, building wars etc. A society that send the women out to war and the men stay home with the kids wont last long.
Men respond more to visuals like porn and women like wordy romance novels where some beast is brought to his knees lol . Around 70% of CompSci majors are male and around 70% of English majors are male. Women have double the amount of mood disorders and med use and men are more prone to addictions.
A male can be an artist of course and a woman can be a systems admin but the arts vs engineering areas would still have their characteristics . The arts appeal (seduce even) to people mostly via emotions. Movies, plays, music and such make people feel things. The people who make those things spend a lot of time in thoughts and feelings and it can be dangerous. People in the arts are known to have more psychotic illnesses. The substance abuses, suicides', depression shows in studies as well as anecdotally.
The suffering artist is real but its not because of genius. Emotions create thoughts an thoughts emotions which make more thoughts and so on down and down down into the machinery we go. Arty people can sink down into their own machinery they think they are rising and all even deeper. The easiest people to hypnotize are the intellectual culture types. Throw some some thoughts and feelings and they are on their way to inside their head. Its hard to do that to a farmer.
Right now women are being stressed to "save things" a lot and that's an appeal that works well with them (and a reason they get stuck trying to save bad guys). There are many political appeals about saving things mostly aimed at women. The stress has really been getting to then and their med use has gone up a lot (and it was already high. 1 in 4 women over 40 are on meds. I have trouble with clients who are women because many have been on meds for over a decade and they are zonked.

For females ages 18 to 25, the average monthly rate of change in antidepressant use was 56.5% over the two time periods."
