OT: KNICKS playoff thread Go NY Go NY GO

Time to pull the plug on this one. Likely to at best have an impaired Josh Hart on Sunday.

Josh Hart can’t go 100% ?
Thats doesn’t bode well for Sunday

Brunson will need to drop 50
Dante will need 30

A classic over achieving team that has brought fan excitement .Injuries to key players keep on happening at the worse possible time.

They seem to be running on fumes at this point. I mean the efforts in games 4 and 6 were really bad. The last three games have been blowouts so not as intense a viewing experience. If no OG and a less impactful Hart tomorrow, I can see the end of the road.

Color me biased, but I think they win today. Not sure who or how. But I think they win. Who cares about the next series at this point. Would be another epic victory for this team.

At this point, I have no idea what to expect. Will need above average games from just about everybody. Not just scoring but defense and rebounding as well. Expect a much better overall effort at MSG. Hopefully the Josh/OG combination gives us good play at the 4.

Indiana has better 3 point shooters which is what the NBA is all about.

Brunson fractured left hand

Great run , go get the final piece this offseason

OG and Hartenstein are free agents

Mitch needs to get in better shape

Nova 3 will be fine

What do you do with Julius ???? My stupid radio calling show trade ….randle duece 3 picks for Anthony Davis

What do people love to give away multiple picks and bodies for one person? Three problems with this trade. One Davis is a walking injury waiting to happen. Two, McBride is cheap and you don't trade a quality backup for a more expensive one. That's the only way you find another PG worth similar value. Third, Davis is a max player earning twice what Randle earns as the highest paid Knick. The Lakers don't have any additional players the Knicks want that has to be thrown into the trade to balance it out.

IMO, Randle may be that missing piece. When Randle, OG, and Brunson played together in January, the Knicks went 13-2. They had an inside and outside game. Randle would have punished Indiana with their soft interior defense. And before anyone says Randle was a black hole, that was not true before he got injured. He cut down 3 attempts and didn't need to dominate the ball to get his shots.

Was fools gold for knicks….they need several changes to compete. Will kick themselves for missed opportunity. East was very down.

tibs ran Derrick and bulls into ground in 2010/11 timeframe, and never made it back…hard not to at least consider tibs playing 6.5 guys and grinding style of fouling each time on D not to contribute to rash of injuries.

Can’t expect Brunson to play like this all the time.

I did say stupid call in show trade

team makes no moves ……
Brunson
Randle
Hart
DiVincenzo
Robinson

Don’t let OG and Hartenstein sniff around free agency too long.

My opinion Knicks going big game hunting whether or not it works we shall see. Knicks will be all over and in just about every offseason rumor

Knicks have first round picks TY to play with plus a few extra firsts in the next few drafts

We miss you in the Mets thread.

Fun season. Disappointing end.

Pacers moved the ball and shot extremely well. Not enough contests on shots and it seemed like we were chasing guys around versus staying in front of them.

Brunson’s iso game is great when it is working but I thought they needed to spread the ball around more in the first half when things got away from them. Again they were so limited it’s hard to fault the approach. Randle plays a similar style.

I am really struggling with what to pay OG. You gave up two starters and need to sign him but he obviously was not ready to go again today.

like the IHart and Mitch combo but not sure I like either solo for the long run. They will need to make a choice assuming someone doesn’t decide to pay Ihart more than the Knicks can.

Thibs needs to trust his roster. He needs to reduce the minutes his guys play in the regular season. Why pick up the two guys from Detroit and then use them minimally? You knew before the trade they weren’t great defenders and Burks was bad but when you are so limited you need to keep Burks in the rotation. He probably won’t be back

Not sure I see a big trade. They will run it back. They have two late round picks this year and need to find a guy who can be a rotation piece. Not easy. Especially with Thibs disdain for rookies.

I assume Thibs gets an extension.

Yea this is a load of nonsense lol. When this team was complete in January they were playing the best basketball of any team in the league. They won 50 games missing their all NBA Power Forward since February, OG Anunoby for the last month and a half of the season, and Mitchell Robinson for most of the season.

The lineup of guys they were missing for the postseason could probably be a 5 seed in the playoffs on its own.

I like Mitch a lot but it’s getting harder and harder to trust him to stay healthy for an entire season.

Bogdanovic had carved out a pretty decent sized role off the bench before he got hurt. Thibs did try to get Burks involved right after the trade, but he probably did pull the plug on him sooner than he should have. He was struggling, but that’s a body they probably could’ve used over the last few weeks of the season.

Love the "Nobody plays defense" posts.

Just about every player in the playoffs (including centers) are better outside shooters than every player in the Big Ten.

This isn't Jamichael Davis and Derek Simpson driving into 3 guys and throwing it off the backboard.
Or JWill driving into 2 guys the kicking it out for a missed 3 from Hyatt.

If your man gets past you, when you help, the ball gets kicked back out, passed around the perimeter for an open (and likely made) shot.

And they will get past you because offense hunt the worst defender and actively exploit mismatched through screens and switches.

Imagine playing Iowa or Purdue every game.
But with better shooters at every position.
Every kick out and ball rotation is to a half open RHJ - but better.

That's what NBA defense are going against.

100%

The defense being played in the NBA is tremendous. The thing is the offense is absolutely insanely good and borderline unstoppable.

I think it is different in the playoffs versus the regular season. While some level of defense is play at all times, it definitely ramps up during the playoffs. Also the change in how the game was officiated mid season was designed to aid the defense since scoring was getting out of control.

While the Pacers shot the ball incredibly well yesterday, the Knick defense seemed a step behind and not up to their standards. They had to play better defense, contest more shots or create more turnovers to win. I would add rebound better but when the other team is hitting that many shots there are not many rebounds to get.

So he can spend his days on the IR in MSG instead of LA? HELL NO.

This is not the classic OVERACHIEVING!!! CHOKE ARTISTS!!!! SELFISH SCUMBAGS!!! type of team. They played well enough to be considered one of the best teams in the league. It’s just that everyone got injured at the same time. Can’t fight that.

Hell of a season, see what happens in the offseason.

I think the defense seemed a step behind because the Knicks were just way too under staffed and attrition finally caught up to them.

There are injuries and there are injuries.

Can't remember the last time a team got absolutely nuked injury wise like the Knicks.

I suppose NBA popularity is pretty high so I am in the minority. You have these freakish athletes and unbelievably skilled players just wasted by a game that is all about making 3 pointers.

The genie is out of the bottle and the players know the cheat code. Outside of crazies like me EVERYONE wants the 3 pointers....how do we change things in both NCAA and NBA to reduce the value of launching up 25 foot shots.

Moving the line back would make things look more clownish.

By the time Josh Hart fouled out (and he was playing with an abdominal injury anyway), Knicks only 5 NBA rotation players remaining not including end of bench Shake Milton, Sims and a bunch of G-League level guys.

This is exactly lke launch angle and pitching velocity in baseball. Players/teams/analytics guys have figured out that it's a winning formula. It doesn't make for a good product, but it wins. Mid range shots have almost no value analytically speaking.

What's the viewing difference between a guy shooting a jump shot from 18ft vs 24ft?

If a team shoots 25 shots from 2 steps in from the 3pt line - is it suddenly an amazing game to watch?
Why is that a better product?

So what's the ideal game to watch?
Ball movement and passing?
If that's the case, what does it matter from where the shot occurs?

Please don't say "post ups".
Everyone complains about isolation plays from wings with everyone else standing around. Wouldn't it be the same for centers?

The game would be so beautiful if they eliminated the 3 point line, moved the shot clock to 35 seconds and not allow moving screens.

We would see less high screening and pick and roll. less isolation, more ball movement north south east and west.

I know the 3 point shot isn't going to be eliminated....what if they capped attempts at 20 per game per team?

Hockey.....

The shot chart would be diversified.

If you were to tune in to a NBA TV classics game from 15, 25 or 35 years ago and compare it to a current NBA game do you honestly think the flow of a game is better today?

The goal is to get a shot much closer than that.

What's the problem with high screen and pick and roll?
How are you doing ball movement without screens?

Just run away from your guy?

If the goal is shots at the hoop - how are you getting defenders away from the hoop?
You are forcing everyone into the paint without the incentive of outside shots - which spreads out the offense thus the defense.

Passing is how you get ball movement. If passing lanes are over played back door cut.

The paint being crowded leads you to open 15 footers.
