Asked this questions on the wbb board but not many views hits there so bringing it here

Its not a popular thing to discuss but the question needs to be asked.

I've noticed our teams in basketball seem to lack white players year in/ year out. I wonder why this happens? Don't say that our coaches recruit the best regardless of color because if you've seen our mens team you'll know that its not true.

Historically its seems like a 60/40 split is common, but we seem to be below that consistently. I asked the question on the Wbb, have we ever had a star white player? I dont know the answer but u'd think that as a pretty consistent top 25 team in wbb we should have over the past 10 years had someone of note.

So do we have a recruiting problem/ perception problem with white players? Does this in anyway relate to our issues recruiting the prep schools in football?

I could say the same thing about the new RU football staff. Not diverse at all when it comes to on field coaches or recruiters that actually can recruit off campus. I like you, think the topic needs to be raised in all sports

Pretty sure it's more of the John Chaney/Old Georgetown coach type thing. If the tables were reversed, well, we know how it all is.

Lock the thread now. This stuff never goes anywhere.

Going on the assumption that you're serious and not just trolling, the most accomplished player in the history of the program - and one of the most accomplished athletes the school has ever had (Hall of Fame in their respective sport, national player of the year, three-time All-American) is white.

and she didn't play under cviv. Something has to be wrong with her approach to recruiting.

it just goes to show you how crazy society is.

We want diversity but can't discuss it. This topic has merit.

yes its a sensitive subject but it should be able to be discussed. I pointed to an article where a major news outlet questioned how "white" wisconsins team was, yet when i question how black our is, i'm the racist?????

and she didn't play for Stringer, so i wonder if theres an issue with who or how she recruits

To be clear race doesnt matter to me.

Although not "the Star" Heather Zurich played a key role in to team of C Viv stringer and quietly built some decent stats finishing her senior year in 2009.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heather_Zurich

By the conclusion of her senior season, Heather Zurich had played in 122 games for Rutgers and had 86 career starts, including 28 that season. As a captain in her final campaign, Zurich helped lead the Scarlet Knights to 102 victories over her four seasons, which are the second-most by a class in the history of Rutgers women’s basketball.

Although a ling time time assistant to Gino Auriema, Chris Dailey preceded Sue Wicks with a standout Rutgers career. She would probably be a first choice to replace C Viv when she leaves I would guess, bur she has seemed to be content with her role in the UCONN dynasty.

Interestly I played many a pickup game with bothe her and EJ in my time on the banks. Both EJ and Chris are fine people. I think knowing EJ is what makes it hardest for me to see the results.

It matters a lot to some people, unfortunately for them.

It doesnt matter to me from a perspective of race issues...i just question it from a recruiting standpoint.

Infact what spurred me to post this is that i've now had conversations with 4 people in the past 3 weeks that have nothing to do with rutgers and after talking with them it was brought up.

I never said she did play for CViv. Nor did you say anything about CViv in your initial post. You asked if Rutgers had ever had a star white player. You said you posed the question to the women's basketball board. I was answering your question. Unless you're saying the question you asked wasn't really your question.

Post on the WBB mentioned Cviv, post here mentioned past 10 years. Sorry for the confusion.

Dis gon be gud
i understand why you post this, and i tried to preface in the OP that this wouldnt be a popular subject but really it shouldn't be anything more than a simple discussion. We talk about the importance of recruiting in all sports, and our staffs abilities to relate to kids (of all colors) and If our football team were 90% white and terrible, we'd be questioning our coaches abilities to recruit players of color.

that is why i point out a Geno from Uconn recruiting all players well.

Lamizana was black? Shit, I was thinking of alvyds tenys.
I only knew the Billet name as i recall reading them in the ledger when i was younger, didn't really follow them. But all these guys you listed are basically pre-y2k.

Don't you find that strange?

Might be that white players like to play for white coaches. In Football, there are more white players that play for either Boston College and Penn State especially OL. I hear it's because their campuses are less diverse.

I personally liked girls of all different races, and I was happy to have every race at rutgers. Not sure if I could have sampled like that any place else.

Funny at one of the Rutgers football games, a preppy young black male, a wannabe, was confirming with someone on their cell phone about the number of Asians on campus. I assumed he went to Penn State which is about 75% white when actually most colleges are more like Rutgers.

CVS's best teams at Rutgers started Heather Zurich for 3 years. Great glue player but apparently not good enough for you, theRU. The "types" your looking for end up at UConn. Lock thread.

Before even bringing something like this up shouldn't you know every player we've tried to recruit? So say we missed on some white recruits should we not take our other primary targets who may be black to sign some lower level white recruits to satisfy some silly diversity quota?

YES, if you are so interested in this ... I suspect you are ! but the answer is Rutgers recruits the best players available - race does not have any part of it. I doubt you are even a serious Rutgers basketball fan since there have been lots of white players - Billets, Axani, Wicks, Biruta, Sofman, Waterstradt, Zurich, Hodgeson .... and what about Salvi, Rosario, Flores ? who cares ? never even thought about it

I brought up the lack of diversity in our new football staff, all seemingly coming from white, Christian, midwest America.
My post was promptly ripped off the message board.
What would the PC-averse Donald Trump say about that?

It's not an issue to me we don't have white players on either B Ball team.
The issue is why white players have no interest in coming here.
Just guessing here, but I'd bet big money both CVS and EJ would kill to have excellent white players, they just can't get them...and that's the issue.
Both coaches should be able to freely discuss the subject.
