OT:LET'S GO METS

Needed to drop Parnell. No more velocity. They need to pick up another veteran bullpen arm.

This Yankees fan follows all of MLB....always has.
Why are Mets fans so defensive about this info ?
If I thought either one of you was interested in a genuine discussion then I would engage you. I think it's pretty clear that I don't care about strength of schedule. You attempted to demean me regarding that fact in a previous post. It was something about being a typical Met fan who doesn't care whether his team plays a tough schedule. Today, since it suits your attempt to antagonize me, you've decided that I'm actually sensitive.

We all know that the purpose of your and his posts are to deride the Mets and their fans. I just want you and he to be honest and say it. Instead you act petty, showing up when things are going poorly and disappearing when they go well. Grow a pair and just say what you mean instead of this passive aggressive kabuki dance.

On a side note, You still haven't explained why something as arbitrary as an easy schedule-something the teams have no control over-should diminish from a successful season, but the Yankees essentially cheating( by doping) in their last 2 WS should be ignored and/or celebrated?

In addition, if you're such a fan of baseball, why haven't you started a thread discussing your team and their prospects for a successful season? It seems someone as big a baseball fan as you would want to talk about the AL East pennant race.

Classy post.
Ya know, I've been pretty much manifesting the same attitude towards the Metsies and their fans since they first arrived on the scene a long, long time ago. And in all that time not one of them has punched me in the face. You must be sooo special.

That says it all IMO.

Even the great Yankee team of 1998 had a record of 38-26 against >= .500 and 76-22 against <= .500.
Handle the teams you're supposed to beat...especially this time of year. Don't give away games.

Winning at home and beating bad teams has been the primary recipe for success for every championship team in every sport since Cave men started drawing up sides.

Don't let these limp dick Yankee fans get in your heads.

All I know is that it is 8/19 and we a 4.5 game lead. The team projected to run away and hide in our division is .500

Life is good...

There is a coach i cant quite remember his name though he made a very nice living by beating easier teams he played and catching lighting in a bottle against a few of the better teams with a win here and there. Think he made about two million a yer using this formula. Anybody??

Yeah....Yankees fans are the idiots.
You only post negative comments in a thread regarding a team you don't root for, antagonize the Mets fans by implying their thoughts are indications of a loser mentality, and constantly intimate that this season is a failure, but yet you're the victim?

How about you do us all a favor, stop whining and just start acting like an adult.

Was there last night with 7 line army. Absolutely amazing ! Same feel as a college road game . Walking around town high fiving Mets fans , talking to everyone and sharing their excitement for the team. For those in central and south jersey we need to make philly sound like the late 80's with more than half of Vet stadium rooting for the Mets

LGM !

Bobby Valentine ?

I guess I've just had too many interactions with too many dumbass Mets fans over the years. Lots of them couldn't even have anything good to say about guys like Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter. Nothing for their fans since 1986 and they still act like they're superior to most MLB teams. And of course they're the only team that has injuries. And they're the only team with minor league prospects. Frankly, I think most of their fans are dumbasses. At least that's been my experience.... since 1962. I think it has to do with the type of individual who would gravitate to the NY Mets in a town that has the Bronx Bombers. You have to be "special" to get your picture taken with that mascot with the big fat baseball as a head. Or watch the big apple rise when a Mets player hits a home run. So corny. So dumb. Let's Go Mets. Amazin.
Too funny.

I 'll repost what I said earlier in this thread in regards to my interactions here with Mets fans.
And yes...I'm enjoying myself. Thanks.

Will be interesting to see what happens when Wright is activated, probably Monday in Philly. Whoever goes down is likely ineligible for the postseason. I'm guessing Conforto, but maybe Flores?

Anyone on the 40 is eligible for postseason so that won't matter.

I looked this up. Technically you are incorrect, but as a practical matter you are correct and I was wrong.

The basic rule states that to be playoff-eligible, you must either be on the active 25 man roster or on the DL as of August 31. That is what I had thought. But there is an important loophole. It is that with the approval of the Commissioner's office, you can replace injured players with those not on the 25 man roster.

So, let's say the Mets send Conforto down next week, and he is not on the 25 man roster on 8/31, making him playoff-ineligible. Then they bring him back in September and he goes on a tear. They can make him playoff eligible by having him replace the injured Nieuwenhuis, or for that matter any other injured player. Pretty much all they need to do is provide evidence that the injured player is truly injured.

The replacement player doesn't even have to be on the 40 man roster. Just has to be in the organization.

Worm I believe that was the old rule. They changed it last year hence Polanco being mentioned.

In the past, players on the 25-man roster as of Aug. 31 were eligible, along with players on the disabled list. The overall restriction was not that severe, however; any player in the organization could replace an injured player.
The difference now is that all players on the 40-man roster as of Aug. 31 are eligible. The Pirates, for example, can name outfielder Gregory Polanco to their postseason roster even though they will not recall him from the minors until Tuesday.
Polanco also was eligible under the previous rule, as a potential injury replacement. But this system is cleaner. Teams did not need to place players on the "phantom" DL in late August to keep them eligible for the postseason. They can simply pick from their 40-man roster before the playoffs start.
Also, there can be no shenanigans with bumping players off the 60-day DL to create space on the 40-man roster. That player cannot be replaced on the 40-man unless he has served the full 60 regular-season days on the DL.

Honest question: at what point does Daniel Murphy surpass David Wright in terms of the better career Met?

Well Wright's got almost 5x the career WAR and it took murphy 7 seasons to get 11 WAR so...Divide .... Carry the 9 .... And .... Yeah never.

Never. It's not even particularly close.
You don't think it's close? It seems like Wright has been a total non factor for 6 years now. One of the most over rated players I can remember. And Murphy is one of the most underrated guys.

Hmm just checked career stats...still think Murphy is underrated, and probably the better player from this point forward. Wright is a light hitting 3b with a very nice glove.

I like Murph but no. He brings his bat to the table and nothing else. His bat isn't even THAT good as he doesn't have much power. Wright has like 6 or 7 years that blow Murphy's best out of the water. Wright has been one of the most valuable players in baseball since he debuted.

WAR isn't perfect, but Wright has 6 seasons with a WAR over 4 and 3 with a WAR over 6.8. Murphy's career high is 3.0. Wright has a career slash line of .298/.377/.494, while Murphy is at .289./.332/.419. It's not close.

- By Labor Day, I hate to say we'll be in a dead heat with the Nats as I sense a hot streak approaching for the Nats.
-Our bullpen continues to be troublesome....
- Offense is sporadic and inconsistent.

David Wright needs to get here asap as team needs his leadership and a productive AB in the lineup....as well as Steven Matz to spell Harvey and Syndergaard.....I really don't trust Niese or Colon nor Syndergaard on the road.......

Furthermore, if Collins has any brains - which I'm not fully sure about - he goes with this lineup for the balance of the year:

1B - Duda
2B - Murphy
SS - Flores
3b - Wright
LF - Cuddyer / Conforto platoon
CF - Cespedes
RF - Granderson
C - D'Arnaud

Bench - Uribe; Johnson; Lagares; Tejada and Plawecki (please bring him up)

Wright's career is all but over. Spinal stenosis doesn't get better and it's almost always progressive.

Nats lose. Mets 4 games up.
Yankees lose to Cleveland, and are 1-3 against them this year, 3-4 against the Athletics and 1-3 against the Nationals. It's a good thing they play so many teams with winning records.

Why does TC refuse to bunt in obvious bunting situations?

A little late with this one, but here's what I think is the rationale:

1) Flores was hitting well, with a HR and an RBI single in that game.
2) Britton is a very tough lefty, and the Mets had lefties coming up in Granderson (who has not hit lefties at all this year) and Murphy. With the open base, he could have pitched around Lagares to get to the lefties.
3) Mets can't bunt anyway.
4) Just maybe, after Familia's shaky performance the night before, Collins was disinclined to play for one run.

The Mets now play Colorado.....which has the second worst record in MLB.....412
After that, they play Philly.....which has the worst record in MLB.....388
Then they play Boston....which has the second worst record in the AL.....455
Then they play Philly.....again ...the worst in MLB......388
Then they play Miami.....only better than Colorado and Philly.....413
Anyone else see the Mets having trouble holding off the Nationals while running THAT gauntlet ?
Sounds like a winning streak ahead for the Mets to me.
Forty two games left and they have three against the Bronx Bombers as THE ONLY ONES vs. a team with a winning record.
Christmas comes early this year for the Amazins.

BTW, I can recall sitting in my doctor's office checking out Sports Illustrated's preseason preview and recall that they had a Cleveland-Washington World Series. Nice call. They also quoted several unnamed scouts as claiming that Texeira's bat speed had decreased noticeably in spring ball. They had the Yanks finishing fourth in the AL East.
Dumbasses.

Don't forget, the Mets have 9 more games on the road than Washington does.Mets don't play well against anybody on the road.
