OT:LET'S GO METS

Who was the one that started this stupid idea of using ski goggles for the champagne celebration? It looks stupid and staged. Whats next having everyone wear ponchos? And cespedes in the dugout before the last out wearing them was not a good idea. I like the old days, now get off my lawn!

Seaver and Koosman dont need no goggles!

But apparently one of them needed a jacket. LOL

I agree and would love to see them signed, particulalry Murphy. Before the playoffs even started I texted my son that my top priority would be Murphy even more than Ces. He thought I was crazy and probably many disagree, but I just love the way Murph plays the game. It's gonna be real tough to keep both, especially since in a few years the pitching will start to cost big big bucks, but the Wilpons certainly better make a go of it!

I'd much rather keep Cespedes. Murphy has some value, but he's not a bopper and he's not very good in the field. (He averages -11 runs saved per year at 2nd.)

That said, I think it's going to be hard to keep Cespedes, and I think Murphy may have priced himself out of the reasonable range with his postseason performance. (When you hit home runs at about 10x the pace you did during the regular season, it tends to attract attention.) Keep in mind, also, that they're both going to look for long term contracts. They're both 30 now, so long term contracts will have significant risk.

I'll take them both. Murph is the type of gamer I'll take on my club anytime, and Cesp - well I think we all had painful flashbacks of the clean-up spot when he went down last night. Hoping we can get Murph for 3 years, and Cesp for 5.

To be blunt, if the Mets put 3 and 5 year contracts, respectively, on the table for them, there's no way they'll sign. Murphy's probably looking for 4 to 5 years and Cespedes is looking for 6 or 7, and some team will offer them those kinds of deals.

Don't get me wrong - I love what Cespedes did for the team after the trade, and I'm delirious about Murph's performance in the postseason. But this is not a team that's going to go all out for either of them, and in Murphy's case, that's probably the right decision. You sign players for the regular season, and Murphy is good but not particularly great, and he doesn't show signs (not that you'd expect him to) of getting better in his areas of weakness.

I would be shocked if Mets resign Murphy. The Mets have a surplus of middle infielders coming through the system. The money is better spent on Cespedes, or on building a war chest to pay their pitchers.

3 and 5 year offers are the highest I think the Mets will go on each.

Here's hoping for G7 of Royals/Blue Jays. Not particularly looking forward to facing either, but unfortunately they don't give away rings. :(

I'll say this other thing for Murphy; I've never seen a guy show some much humility in the midst of the tear he's been on. Every single time he's been asked about it, and there have been plenty; he's bought it right back to talking about the other 24 guys and the team. Very impressive in the regard.

Mets fans are trolling this Rutgers message board.

Who cares about a baseball team from Flushing New York that has no connection to Rutgers or New Jersey.
If you're a Phillies fan, please just go cry into your wheaties and not on here.
If you're a Yanks fan, please just go on and on about your 27 world championships somewhere else.
If you're not a baseball fan, then just ignore the thread all together. Its one damn thread and you can choose not to read it. But I guess troll's gotta troll right?

So who do you want to play? The Blue Jays or Royals? I think its going to be the Royals and they will be tough however I like our chances against either of them.

Toronto has the stronger offense, but the Royals have slightly better pitching. I think the Royals are a little easier on paper. If the Mets keep playing like they have been, it won't matter.

Who do you DH? Conforto and have largares and Cespedes in OF or Johnson and keep Conforto in left ?

Against lefties I would go Cespedes, Lagares and Grandy with Cuddyer DH
Against righties I would go Conforto, Cespedes and Grandy with Johnson/Cuddyer as DH.

You have that much faith in Cuddyer right now? Injuries are starting to catch up to him.

Uribe could be ready to go. He took grounders during BP before Game 2 and some swings in a cage last weekend.

I think that he's doubtful for the WS; which stinks. Every 5 years he's been on a WS winning roster (2005, 2010). Little known fact: his middle name is Cespedes.

If Uribe were ready to go, you could use him at DH for the lefties and Conforto for the righties. Lagares should be playing he's done well in the postseason.

Shame if true about Uribe. I think his experience and professionalism adds something to the team even when he's not in the lineup. Is there a rule forbidding inactive players from being present in the dugout during post-season games? I know you see guys on the DL in the dugout all the time during the regular season. Lately much of the chatter I've seen in articles has been about the recent lack of success of teams coming off a layoff between the LCS and World Series. Hope we can overcome that. I know that Harvey says his improved performance against the Cubs vs. hiis start against the Dodgers was due to him being back on regular rest rather than 8-10 days between starts.

Buster Olney tweeted the expected Mets pitching rotation.

deGrom
Thor
Harvey
(depends on situation)

Thoughts on deGrom not going in games 6 or 7, if it comes to that?

Also, this puts Harvey on way extra rest which he hasn't responded to well down the stretch.

I think Harvey's adrenaline of being in the World Series will help him considerably, but still it makes me nervous. deGrom pitching in 1 and 5 would make him available in a Game 7 for relief work if its needed. I like my odds with Harvey starting thatwith deGrom, Matz and Colon available in the bullpen if needed.

I go back and forth on Royals/Jays, Game 1 starter, etc. If we can get the NLCS Harvey, that's the guy I want in G1 - sadly that is a big if. We really can use Uribe, and Clippard to get back to the Clippard of old. Still have no clue why Reed can't be used more...

Wait and think...wait and think. ;)

If Uribe is healthy enough then I assume he takes Kirk Niewenhius's spot on the roster. I don't like Cuddyer in the OF and agree he has not done much but I have to think there could be some hits left in that bat. Again if Uribe is healthy he would be in the mix.

Don't know much about the Royals except what the talking heads keep repeating. And that is that they're a contact team that puts the ball in play and has a great bullpen. I think their plan is probably going to be to run up pitch counts from our starters and try to make our middle relief come into play. I don't know enough about their team to know what their soft spots are. On paper I'd say the Mets have a nice edge in starting pitching. Hopefully our offense can exploit that.

Royals will be very tough but the Mets have a decent shot at winning the series. The bats need to be productive in the first six innings against the Royals starters. All righty starters for the Royals which probably means alot of Conforto and Johnson in the line up. I heard Collins was thinking about this when trying to determine the merits of bringing Uribe back given that he is another right handed bat. I want Uribe on the roster if healthy even if Kirk is another left handed bat.

KC scares me. Any team that can get back to the WS 2 years in a row is on a mission.Losing in 7 games shows they can play under extreme pressure. With all this said, I'm hoping the Mets can win it in 6 games.

Will be a very tough series......

What the Mets needs to do to win:

- SP must remain dominate
- can't have holes in lineups or duds......everyone needs to be productive with their AB's....
- Bridge to Familia must be effective

Also what is interesting is that Mets open up 2016 season at KC next year....schedule was finalized about a month ago....how's that for forecasting...:)

By the Garden yesterday,I saw 2 women in Royals' garb.I'm figuring they started their NYC trip early, seeing all of the sights before the games here next week, gambling that they would put away Toronto.

I had to go page 4 to locate this thread. Kyle Flood said its time to turn the page after last nights debacle. For a core group of RU fans on this board, at least we have the WS to look forward to. LGMs!
