Former South Plainfield wrestler Steve Johnston, a longtime assistant at the high school, has been named the head coach at his alma mater.
The school board on Wednesday night approved Johnston, who spent the last 10 years as an assistant under predecessors Kevin McCann and Bill Pavlak, two coaches responsible for turning the Tigers into a perennial state power.
