Looks like he starts for Georgetown. Played 23 minutes...8 points, 2 boards and 1 assist vs Maryland Eastern Shore....

Please don't tell me we're going to do this for every game. He might be a good player but Rutgers wasn't a fit for him. He moved and so did we and we got a very good player to replace him in McConnell who could better fit us.

Good luck to McClung. He found a place that worked for him.

I will be interested in following his game from time to time.

He is what I like to call a double D....A “diaper dandy.”

The kid can flat out fly.

Really dont think this is a necessary thread but
4 for 10
0 for 2 on threes
1 asst
and 3 tos

against Maryland Eastern Shore really is underhwelming. The dunk however was pretty.

He made a steal near half court and finished with an uncontested reverse dunk. Some people have never seen an uncontested reverse dunk by a basketball player before so that play was uber impressive to them.

What would have made some here very happy with this thread was if Mac missed the uncontested show boat dunk. lol

What was the score of the game when that play happened?

I say we keep this thread going all year with updates, analysis, and highlights from all his games! Just to annoy people who don’t like it.
The Basketball version of #FreeRettig or #FreeRocket.

Think it does show that Pike has a great eye for talent and was willing to commit before anybody.

Kevin Bannon had a great eye for talent as well. Dahntay Jones, Jay Williams, Josh Moore, Olumide Oyedeji, Luis Flores come to mind but there were so many others that he narrowly missed out on. Who could forget Troy Murphy- the other great white hope? In the end, none of it mattered and Bannon went from one scandal to the next.

Fred Hill had Corey Chandler, Mike Rosario. Both were early recruits and studs the minute they stepped on campus. Athleticism (especially at guard) is only a small piece of what it takes to be successful. Further evidence of this are Waliyy Dixon (post-RU known as “Main Event” and Charles Jones (post RU national scoring champ at LIU & NBA). Both of these young men were more impressive dunkers than what I have seen from Maclung, but I know this is the YouTube era so everything’s a highlight. Neither could make it academically at RU.

When Gary Waters was here, he showed us what a good coach could do with an underrecruited kid like Quincy Douby, who was a late stage recruit and willing to work. There is no substitute for a coach who knows what he is doing, has had success elsewhere and is in coaching for the right reasons. Waters came as close as anybody to getting RU to the NCAAs and did it with class from the start. Pike seems cut from a similar cloth in that he seems to genuinely love the coaching profession. He also clearly gets the NJ/NY mentality which I think is important. Part of that is seeing the Mac McClung’s of the world come by and thinking.....next!

Wasn’t it Bannon who found Douby first and “hid” him post high school?

You are talking about an 18 year old.

So what? What is old enough to vote, old enough to serve in the military, I think it’s OK for me to say “screw him.” I’m not wishing ill on him, however, I couldn’t give two shits about the guy I don’t know why he’s being discussed on this board. Oh...btw..he “screwed” us first lol :cool2:

1-5, 0-3 from 3 so far

Glad we didn’t get stuck with HIM!

2-10
0-5 from 3
4 points

I wonder if any of those 2 field goals were of the spectacular fashion variety!

My early betting this year is on Rutgers (1-0) and against Georgetown (1-0). I hope Mac does well, but if he is starting for a CBB team they aren’t any good.

I want guys that want to be at RU. McClung chose to not come to RU. I wish him the best but i feel we are better off with the recruits that chose RU. 0-5 on 3's and 2-10 from the field are not great numbers against Central Connecticut. There is so much more to basketball than spectacular dunks.

We offered some 43 players from 2018. Four verbaled, including McClung. He was a HS senior, not 25 years old. Their minds can change. Which is why a verbal is kind of like being engaged. Both parties should take the opportunity to decide, for real, if that is what they want. The engaged couple should be evaluating each other carefully and deciding if they want to spend their lives with the other person. Unfortunately, planning a wedding often prevents that from happening--the couple gets too wrapped up in the plans. So we have a high divorce rate. If we didn't have verbals, there would be a ton more transfers.

Nothing but the best to McClung. Georgetown is a fine school, and would bet my life on DC being more fun than New Brunswick.
