OT: No bags in NJ coming in 18 months

Plenty of states and cities banning plastic bags.
And with every “ see what we accomplished” you will get the opposite desired effect. Number one paper bags were never the issue. California proved it’s much easier to let the forests burn to the ground then thin the foliage. The best one is ... bring your own storage containers to the restaurants for take out food or leftovers from a meal. Going to be a lot of casserole dishes lying around.

I went through this in Santa Monica several years back. Despite my initial outrage at it, you get used to it and in fact, I ended up liking the reusable bags better. You fit more and they don't rip.

Now the paper bag ban doesn't make much sense to me, as others have stated.

We had about 6 weeks of that in most towns in NJ before the pandemic hit done on a local not state level, most notably Paramus. But paper was available so it was easily manageable. And recently Paramus, which had rescinded it during the crisis for safety reasons, went back to paper not plastic. But always a one use option. So safety no longer matters?

What comes around goes around! When I was a kid growing up in NJ in the mid 1970’s most disposable cups and straws were wax coated paper. Nobody complained or had a problem with them and they worked as they should.
By the early 80’s things had changed and paper cups and straws were on their way out. The argument given for the change was paper cups and straws were environmentally unfriendly because it took thousands of trees to make them. So, most businesses changed over to plastic. Today, we now know all that plastic will never break down and is now considered more environmentally unfriendly than paper which does break down. These politicians don’t know what the Dick they are doing. Both democrats and republicans are stupid for listening to these people.
in regards to the bag issue I agree plastic bags a problem. I live on a lake in northern NJ. I am constantly picking plastic bags, cups and straws from the lake and surrounding lands. I think environmental change has to be driven by the consumer not by government edict!

Another power grab by the party thatcrules here so they can be considered moral kings

The ban on paper doesnt even make sense

So how are takeout and delivery orders supposed to be handled

So what are we using for bags if we are stopping in for our items at wawa

Why are we making it more difficult for the undeserving poor

Lmao..you thought this just magically disappeared. Fail!

Republicans crashed the economy...again.

Under Republicans we have record unemployment and an epic stock market crash.

Republicans "let business be business" by attacking free trade, the NFL, Twitter, Starbucks, Nordstrom, etc.

But we can't expect Republicans to be smart. Look at who is supporting them in this thread. And a few are paid to post here.
Thanks china AND murphy !

Most people understand about the plastic issues... never liked the plastic bag for grocery shopping but going back it was the grocery industries way of saving money. I can’t recall our cost per 10k bags but it was cheap in comparison to paper sacks. If only from a stability aspect and being able to stack items away at check out. And even IF we changed every aspect to something biodegrade-able it would take to the next century in order to make an impact if at all. Has anyone watched the movie“ The Take “ from 2016. Found it interesting in a weird sense. Not related to the plastic and bags issue but definitely relatable to this country as we go along.

Maybe if the Republicans ever gain power in this State, they can ban Democrats.
It will never happen TOO many people looking for handouts and dems/communists are willing to give it to them to buy their votes . Have a swell day.

This just proves people here will cry any chance they are given
Bunch of snowflakes
Love how’s certain faction is always claiming that those that don’t agree with over reach and stupidity are snowflakes or whine too much. Tell me when this world will see the perfect climate with all the proposed fixes. Here’s my guess ...In the year 2525 if man is still alive. How true.

Snowflakes ? Who ? Are you talking about the bitch (hilly)and party (dems/communist) who can't except the results from 2016 ? Has hilly cried about it in an interview today yet ?

There seems little disagreement about plastic, but the critics of the objections to this legislation constantly refer to plastic and never mention paper. So what's the problem specifically with paper?

I don’t have any allowable children and my income is too high (by just a little). I want my handout!! Suppedly I’m getting handouts from the Democrats, but where are they??
I would like to answer your question but I can't because I don't know what Suppedly is . Have a swell day.

Looks like I'll be loading and unloading my cart one item at a time for a while. Once in the cart, once out to checkout, another time back in the cart, out of the cart once again and into the car, then finally out of the car.

This process should last a few weeks till it finally clicks or probably never and just by chance remember bags. Just too many more important things in life to worry about than remembering my Eco friendly hemp made bags.

Piss off the tree huggers and reuse plastic bags a few times when done, drive down the street with your car window open and toss them out. The hissy fit they will have will be epic .

The ban on paper is likely due to several recent studies suggesting that the environmental impact of a paper grocery bag is significantly higher than plastic. Reusable shopping bags have a lot of variability in quality and manufacture but should eventually come out on top if used consistently, though some have a break even point in the 100s and I question if some will survive until then. Personally, I use a 40L rucksack as I rarely need to buy more than what will fit in it and would be using it for personal use anyway and toss a few plastic bags into it for meat.

I can't imagine the ban on paper bags will last long. Makes no sense to ban a recyclable product that is so useful and necessary.

Most people have no clue that this is going to be a law soon. Once everybody realizes it, the uproar will be deafening. And I'll be leading the charge.

This is a deliberate strategy by Murphy. Trump does it too. Say/do something outrageous, back off when you get push back and then get what you wanted all along. In this case its the plastic ban.

That’s pretty mature of you. I would expect anyone not to be happy seeing someone litter in their town. That’s extremely trashy behavior, pun intended.

Your sarcasim detector is off. Why does everyone take everything to heart that is posted on a MESSAGEBOARD ?:DeadHorse: :BeatDeadHorse:

So when does the climate reversal reach full impact from nonsense things like this... it’s fine comical...Ige in Hawaii extends emergency until October 31... the next day Murphy extends NJ until October 31... just a control grab by 2 idiots.
The idiots are really the people who vote for these people.

Bob you don't know what you are talking about. All extending the state of emergency does is make a state eligible for federal resources. Almost every state has done so. Once again you find out info from some rightwing source and don't know what the info actually means.

In 18 months I'll forget all about this and the customers who choose to shop when I do will hear a loud, "AH, MOTHERFVCKIN BAGS " from the checkout aisle. Most Mothers don't approve of my English language choices. Usually happens once a shopping trip because the mustard is in aisle 50 which I passed 48 aisles ago. Now it'll just happen twice.

Also, what climate are they choosing to go back to? Is it a specific year? Which one? I need details. Ha.

I have not seen any studies that suggest that. Could you share them? Serious question.

This is a good job by Murphy and company, should have happened a long time a go but they can't unwind all the problems Christie did overnight.

Greg2020, on a side note just for your piece of mind I hope you are just going back and forth with these guys because it's entertaining and not because you think you are going to change their minds. Republicans stand for nothing and only care about getting and keeping as much power as possible so it's easy for them to criticize everything.
