OT: No bags in NJ coming in 18 months

This is a good job by Murphy and company, should have happened a long time a go but they can't unwind all the problems Christie did overnight.

Greg2020, on a side note just for your piece of mind I hope you are just going back and forth with these guys because it's entertaining and not because you think you are going to change their minds. Republicans stand for nothing and only care about getting and keeping as much power as possible so it's easy for them to criticize everything.
Greg admit it my friend....you are a guy whose political thought process was formed by the ultra social nonsense groups which originated mid 60’s through 90’s... Rutgers being a fine example of undermining young impressionable minds ... it has always been known as such ... even graduates have written about certain teachers, professors and those who ultimately became lawyers and politicians... hey this either way will not end well no matter who wins November 3rd... more and more people are feeling that vibe and that is not a healthy thing for this nation... The problem is ... you always need to be right even when you are wrong...Twaddle...😎👍🏻🤟

Bob you can't even respond to the right post. Take a computer class. -Communist Greg.

Good. Throw a bunch of reusable bags in your car and you'll always be prepared. Easy. Should have happened long ago.
Our oceans, lakes, and rivers are loaded with plastic. This isn't political, it's common sense.
none of your plastic stuff is going in the lakes, rivers, or oceans.
Your trash presumably goes into a landfill.
The stuff in the oceans is coming from China and the third world.
So why is it common sense to deprive people in the USA of cheaper bags, cups, straws, etc. that use far less energy to produce than paper products?

Because that's not true? And because the first World is best able to lead by example.

The ..well China and India are doing it so why should we be better is such trite garbage.

You miss the point.
No one is saying that because China and India are polluting the oceans that we should too. We already handle our refuse responsibly. They don't. You want to deprive us of things because somewhere else they don't handle the refuse responsibly.
And it does use far less energy to manufacture plastics over paper.
eliminating plastic containers in America will have a near zero impact on plastics in the oceans. Fact.

A lot of US trash winds up on barges and is ultimately shipped to third world countries. It's a dirty little secret we have here in the states.

A quick Google search on "trash shipped from us to other countries" brings these results and others:

You don't have to replace with paper. Focus is on reusable over disposable, a positive mentality in general.

No one's being deprived of anything ...unless a throwaway bag or cup is that much of a prize in itself.

Greg: That is actual typical garbage from the left side of the plate... that is what has been taught in schools since late 80’s ... look at these people on both sides they’re all bad and some for too many years in office... the problem being made is something that has been orchestrated by various groups ... for those my age I don’t really care...for those under 55 good luck you folks will need plenty of it going forward.

Greg it is you who needs a class in common sense... your team mates( lol) have always been on the side of war, upheavals , handouts and interference in both foreign and domestic turmoil. I’m sure you view yourself as a patriot.

Can you two continue your lover's spat in the private messages because it has nothing to do with this thread.

China also does not allow plastic bags, unless you pay extra, at least that is the rule in Beijing

So basically, if this isn’t delayed or overturned if there is a new Governor, people have 18 months to stockpile if they use them for dogs, coffee grounds, grease , etc. If shoppers help bag, just use two bags for everything, not just heavy items like milk, soda, laundry detergent, etc. That should keep folks well supplied for quite a few years.

Will just have to buy some on line. WalMART has plastic bags for sale... $16 for 1000 bags. https://www.storesupply.com/pc-1320...MIx82RroeN7AIVs-y1Ch0O0QXSEAQYAiABEgIZyPD_BwE
I am certainly going to buy a couple thousand if this goes through. Those plastic bags are the perfect dog crap receptacle. My wife looked into biodegradeable bags... which are $9.99 for 60 bags. No way Am I paying that price for dog shxeet bags

Hopefully the end up in a landfill as opposed to recycling.

Fortunately , in this country we call home , the MAJORITY of people are still in favor of a DEMOCRATIC system of government... This push for a change has been going on for many years... Communism and Socialism have never been a good thing for the people... as many flaws as Democracy has I’ll take our freedoms over any of the others... sorry if you feel differently about it... as for your newest moniker ...I would question what “ you “ personally benefit from it... Ask most transplants , who have lived under those systems vs. ours , those now in this country ... Which do they prefer?
Lighten up Louie
For Christ sakes give it a break
The guy is having some fun with it

Yes , I understand Greg is “having some fun with it”... only one problem in today’s world it’s a much different atmosphere... Oh and I don’t joke about that communist / socialistic views that many seem to have... people didn’t take many dictators serious until it was too late...should we review the history of the world for you?

Go for it
I'll wait

I don't understand they want to ban Paper AND Plastic?

I get my groceries delivered... so.... how would that work now?

Regardless of political affiliation, can we at least agree on two things:

1) The environmental impact of this is beyond minimal - it's insignificant.

2) Woth COVID, schools still barely open, job losses and the budget situation, there should literally be zero time and effort focused on this right now.

Perhaps, cardboard boxes like Amazon?

perhaps.

I totally understand banning this stuff at Shore towns to help keep the beaches clean, but the rest of us... I mean doesn't everyone already recycle? Why not switch everything to biodegradable plastic bags and recycled paper bags?

I agree, all efforts should be focused on the NJ economy and helping NJ citizens in this time of need. These frivolous ideas can wait for another time. Even spending one minute on this is a slap in the face to all NJ citizens.

perhaps.

Oh I'm in your corner, the banning of paper just doesn't make sense. It must be from the same science we've been using during Covid. I think it's time NJ reviewed it's scientific advisors or how the research is being interpreted.

Somebody may have already mentioned this, but you can recycle the plastic bags at Shop Rite. You don’t even have to go inside. They have containers right outside the store. Maybe other supermarkets do the same.

Straight out of the latest issue of The New American.
Too funny.

I can't imagine the ban on paper bags will last long. Makes no sense to ban a recyclable product that is so useful and necessary.

Most people have no clue that this is going to be a law soon. Once everybody realizes it, the uproar will be deafening. And I'll be leading the charge.
Wait until they ban cardboard too.
