OT: No Bowl Leipold Has Gone Cold

I mentioned in the game thread I think it could be a long year for them because they miss AK..and Daniels isn’t doing as well under Grimes.

Oh the other hand, PSU under AK just had 718 yds to like 67 for Kent State. I think that was the most offensive yards for PSU in program history.

Two steps forward - one step back.
The trend was ok

They’ve lost 3 close games. I think this thread won’t age well.
Defense looks okay but Daniels doesn’t look the same as previous years, more TO prone this year. They need to rely on Hishaw and Neal more and sprinkle in some Daniels with his legs.

The injuries Daniels has sustained in his short career might be taking a toll on his talented and Leipold and the team is paying the price with the Kansas O built around Daniels' and Neal

Just took a look at their schedule.

They need 5 more wins.

I could see Houston, TCU, Colorado and Baylor as decent chances for wins but not gimmes.

BYU, KSU, ISU, ASU will be tougher imo.

So imo a bowl isn’t a given.

With TCU,ASU and Houston coming up Kansas has a chance to win those games and if the Jayhawks start getting it together their last two games ( Colorado and Baylor ) could put them over the top

ASU could be tough or might not be as good as we think.
I'd call it an even game for now , even if the Sun Devils are at home when they play.
A Loss to TCU and I'll jump off the JayHawk going bowling bandwagon

I see ASU lost to TT today. Didn’t follow that game but I was surprised by some of their physicality in their Texas St game, wasn’t expecting that.

Honestly, I didn’t even look at his schedule. Some of the NJ HS coaches that I respect the most have nothing but great things to say about him. That’s good enough for me

Oh even if he’s has a bad season it wouldn’t change my mind on him. He’s done miraculous things at Kansas. I’ve mentioned multiple times here how futile Kansas was in the decade before he got there. It was as bad a situation as you’ll find.

If Grimes isn’t the right OC then he’ll have to fix it in the future.

I would pump the brakes on miraculous. 9-19 in conference is very bad.

They got to two bowls and got ranked…a team that averaged less than two wins over that decade, was last in offense and PPG over that decade, had scholarship balancing issues dating back to Weis and whose prior coach left in controversy…that’s miraculous.

Rankings mean nothing in the early season.

Wanted Schiano back.

But Leipold was my number 2. Said it at the time. Anybody who could win at Buffalo and Kansas is a great coach.

RU getting blown out by Kansas at Kansas, may have been the worst loss in RU history. Ash and Hobbs should have been fired that night.

It wasn’t early in the season. They finished last year ranked 23, First time they were ranked since 2007
OK fine, but they have not finished higher than seventh in B12 standings. He is just and OK P5 coach so far with one good season. I don't understand why some fawn all over him as some type of Bear Bryant.

I won’t speak for others but I won’t say I fawn over him (or frankly any other coach, even Mike Leach lol) but I’ll say if I think he’s done a good job or not. I think he’s done a very good job to date. If he stays there long enough we’ll see if it holds up. I can’t speak to the future, only what I think of what he’s done to the present. You don't have to like him, everyone's got their own opinion and that's fine. That's what this place is for and it would be boring if everyone said the same thing.

To me it’s perspective and what they’ve been and what the potential of Kansas is. There’s only so much you can expect compared to other schools with more resources better recruiting grounds and the like. It’s not KU basketball.

His overall record isn’t good if you just look at the number but that’s skewed mostly by year 1. A decade of absolute garbage is hard to turn on a dime but really for all intents in purposes he kind of did by making a bowl in year 2 and getting ranked by year 3. This year looks like a step back year with the new OC. They’re 1-3 but all 3 losses were by less than a score. So while I think it’s possible a long year is coming, you could also say they’re not far off if they can fix Daniels TO problems. The defense looks good enough but they turn it over too much. I think they need to lean more on the 2 RBs and Daniel’s mobility. LL and AK had been together for awhile, would’ve thought maybe a protege waiting in the wings after AK left to PSU but guess not. Although proteges, don't always work out as well as the original lol. Whatever it is, that’s LL’s job to fix.

So? This is about Leipold, the proclaimed Uber genius of coaching. What does Greg have to do with this? And you want to compare the B1G record with Big 12?
The simple fact the thread was made was a comparison of the two. To deny that is silly

Nice try at living inside my head. Nope. Was not that at all. Just an observation, that he had one good season, but seems to have hit a wall. Also, his team is very undisciplined. 9 penalties for 90 yards against UNLV. A lot of silly, unnecessary showboating. But if you guys want to celebrate a coach who has not finished above 7th place in conference, currently 1-3 and and at the bottom of the conference, have fun!! IMO, they will be duking it out for last place with Houston, TCU and Baylor.

TCU (mediocre) 38
Fighting Leipolds (Crappy) 27.

1-4 overall 0-2 in the Big 12. 🤣

1-5

Yup mentioned in the games thread, lost in the last seconds of the game. Long year said they’re gonna have a tough time making a bowl and that looks certain now.

Only solace they have is 4 out of 5 of the losses are less than a score, including yesterday. But not always an easy thing to overcome as we saw with Frost and Nebraska, even Rhule until yesterday unfortunately. Not likely to see anything from Kansas til next year. I don’t expect a big turn this year.

Remind me.
Is Leipold the guy who was at Buffalo that everyone loved?
Still like him, nothing has changed. He lost his OC to PSU and we’ll see if he can make the fix for next year. They’re 1-5 but 4 out of the 5 are within a score so can he get over the hump for next year or not we’ll see. This year is down the tubes.

Kansas took a couple of steps (6-7 & 9-4) forward after Lances first season (2-10)
This season is looking like a big step backwards , but Kansas had a lot going against it before Leipold took over and the jury shouldn't just come out with a decision the program is a failure under his leadership , give Lance a full 5 years to see if he can make the Jayhawks a constant winner from the constant loser they were before he was hired
Kansas didn't have a winning season from 2008 till last year and bad programs like the Jayhawks take time to get on the winning path on a constant bases.
I think Leipold is a good coach, but not a HOF one, he'll make Kansas a winning program but will have some years of not looking so good .

C'mon.. LL inherited Les Miles team. NIL has probably made teh better among them leave.. or that moved on. He will have his own recruits to rely on soon enough.. including now.

Link below shows they seem to have brought in more P5 talent than they lost to other P5 teams.. maybe it will take time to gel. This is probably going to be an every year thing.. wondering if the pluses and minuses amount to a plus or minus for the programs... for everyone.
