OT: NY Cosmos

For any fans of the Cosmos back in the day, the Cosmos are playing the Cuban National team on ESPN tomorrow, Tuesday at 5pm.

The Cosmos should really be in the MLS, they are still a big name here. Would be great matches with NYFC and The Redbulls.

As one who attended dozens of games of the real Cosmos, I think you are way overstating the appeal of the Cosmos brand. Their heyday was 35 years ago. That's almost twice the normal nostalgia cycle which is generally considered to be 20 years.

I never had interest in soccer but remember reading how the Cosmos were going to make soccer a force in the US. Thirty years later it's still all hype...kind of like Nj recruits staying home.

I think the Cosmos tried to be the NY expansion team in the MLS but there bid was not accepted. The NYFC is owned by the NY Yankees and Manchester City. I think because of the huge sports brand names in ownership the NYFC won easily in the bids for the MLS over the Cosmos.
