Stearns did about a 20 min Q&A with the media I think yesterday that I just watched on you tube. Not sure I ever heard him speak for such a period of time. I was impressed with how he addressed the questions and feel like the Mets are in good hands with this guy.

Reimer, Benge, and Serrano should probably move to Bing soon. I would guess around Memorial Day. They are killing it at Brooklyn.

Didn't add them yet but they promoted a pen arm in Anthony Nunez to Bing who is interesting. There's also Dylan Ross who throw over 100 in the pen hitting 102 last night who was out all last season with TJ and back. Did add Zach Thornton who was a 5h rounder in 2023.

One player excluded from both Top 30 and Honorable Mention is Kevin Parada. I just checked his 2025 stats. It's a "good news, bad news" story.

The good news? Parada is hitting .375.

The bad news? That's not his batting average. It's his OPS.

Perhaps a Dishonorable Mention category would be appropriate?

Yup last time I checked it was a BA of .122 with a wRC+ of 14. It's really bad. They should maybe get him into the mysterious developmental list and work on stuff.

Mets acquired 29 year old LHP reliever Jose Castillo from D-Backs for cash considerations. He is pretty much a career minor league who did appear in five games for the Snakes this year, but got batted around pretty good before being DFA'd. I guess the Mets see something in him that they like. (Thank you Captain Obvious.)

This is a major league deal and he is out of options, so he will be added to the MLB roster. Mets will likely option the optionable Dedniel Nunez to make room.

It is good to be able to throw a baseball with your left hand.

Missed this earlier somehow. You don't think they'll send down Genesis?

They should have cut their losses and released Parada already. It just didn't pan out. Maybe one day he can become a nice story as a 30 year old rookie who made it to the majors with somebody. Ryan Clifford not looking too promising either.

Fair point. The Mets have two Top 30 catchers in Brooklyn and one more in St. Lucie. They need a pathway for progression if they can earn it. Parada needs to show enough to earn a promotion to Syracuse. Up or out.

Might already be pitched out of this game with the inconsistency of the offense. Not home to watch the game but sounds like Megill was all over the place.
Yanks are pretty patient at the plate today. He wasn't missing by much. Mets offense has had a few chances but haven't taken advantage of their chances.

Offense doesn't often come thru when it matters most. Particularly horrible with the bases loaded.
It's a lost art much like bunting and hitting for batting average. When you're not a stacked lineup 1-9, you need everyone to be strong in at least one area and hope for the best.

And now that Alonso has started his descent back to the norm the struggles will be pronounced because he was about the only one who could be counted on with RISP. Without his start, which was never going to be sustained; the team average with RISP would have probably been more like .200 than .225. Any dip in the starting pitching such as what's happened in the last 2 games and things would start to look a lot less rosy.

So you're theory is that Alonso will go back to more normal numbers and those who are not performing as well as they ordinarily perform won't?

Other than Soto who is it that you're referring to as not performing as well as they "normally would? That has an established track record? If you're referring to McNeil he won't ever be the hitter he was before they took away the shift. Marte is on the downside. Nimmo? Looks the same as he did the second half of last season. None of the others has a well established track record.

I'll need to see a much more significant stretch of strong pitching to change my view of what Megill is.
I understand that. Pitching varies so much from year to year. That's why those consistent studs are so valuable and expensive. The rest of it is just pray for consistency and no injuries.

I agree with that. But, frankly, Tylor Megill has been a fairly consistent pitcher throughout his career, with an ERA that falls into the 4.00 to 5.00 range, and never below. So, in some sense, and until he shows differently over the long haul, this is an ordinary regression to the mean.

I thought Baty had one for a grand slam but it just didn't carry. But I was at least glad to see him be ready to hit and not take a hittable fastball to fall behind in the count right away and then become susceptible to the soft stuff out of the strike zone.

Does anyone have any insight, or has anyone read any article or discussion, on what Diaz is saying/yelling when he's fired up after getting big outs or saves? It sure looks to me like he is saying, "My Ball!," which would be crazy cool. But I'm not sure, and frankly it could be something in Spanish. But he does it all the time.

It may be “Vamos!”

Phillies reliever and Loud mouth J O
Alvarado suspended 80 games and no postseason
MLB failed to detect even ONE of the 4 Yankees taking prohibited substances before the 2009 World Series, denying the Phillies the chance to be the only repeat winner in the 21st Century. Will the Phillies pay the price to bring back Mason Miller with them after their next weekend's series at Sacramento?

So you start out by eliminating Soto, which is an admission that you’re wrong. Then you go about conceding that multiple others are performing below their career numbers but then give your opinion that these now multiple people are doomed to never reach them again for one reason or another, and so we’re left with your batty theory that without Alonso performing at his best we’re done. It’s kind of a mess

Nimmo .111 vs max
McNeil .323 vs max
Taylor .286 vs max

So better defender Taylor sits so McNeil can play CF to keep Nimmo in lineup ??

We shall see if Mendoza’s gut is correct
