OT: NY Mets Season

Maybe Lagares is not such a bad OF?
Anyone want to apologize?
And Rosario made a nice play.
Lagares cannot hit to save his life. This team has too many hitters such as at Catcher right now that are automatic outs. The Mets don't need a CF also who either K's or hits grounders practically every time he is at bat. Granted he made a terrific catch in the OF today but he is a 5th OF at best. The great start deflected many problems of this team:

1. No consistent SP behind Thor and Jacob
2. A shaky bullpen and stopper situation
3. Not a good offense...too many automatic outs in the lineup.
4. Team is old.
5. No speed on team.
6. Lack of depth

As the team is constructed now, it's a .500 team at best.

Lagares is bating .342 this season in 38 at bats. He and Cabrera are the only batters on the Mets with averages above .300.

True, and it is possible this will be a breakout year for him. But more likely there will be a reversion to the mean. He is a .260 lifetime hitter with little power who has never learned how to harness his speed as an offensive weapon. In other words, he is a below-average offensive player. There was a time when his defense would have been considered good enough to compensate. But not in today's game. He is what Big East Phil said he is - a fifth outfielder.

Problem is - in today's game a fifth outfielder may be an unaffordable luxury unless he can also play the infield. Mets will eventually go back to an eight-man bullpen and someone will have to go. Probably Nimmo, as Lagares' contract makes him uncuttable and likely untradable.

Big East Phil outlined the plethora of problems plaguing the pitifully performing Mets. Was in the mood for some alliteration.

But as I said somewhere early in the season, they never addressed a fundamental offensive problem with this team--lack of speed. As with last year, we have 2 starters pitchers performing, and the rest not ready for prime time. Was never happy with the catcher situation which is now in shambles.

Every inning that Cespedes misses because something is "sore" should cost him a million bucks.

I love Calloway but why are you having Cespedes be the lead runner in a double steal attempt. Don't do these things with your best player especially one who when he sneezes is always at risk for being injured.

He was due for a mini-vacation. If it wasn't this, it would be something else. Calloway just gave him the reason.

Noah and Jake, then.....I got nothin'

Can't help but agree that all the warts are real and eventually this team will settle to the middle of the pack. But it would be nice if they can stay in the mix at least until RU Football starts up again.

Won't happen. Just need to continue on 2 of 3. Hate that Gonzalez bought himself more time. Nimmo and lagares can make us better.

Peter Alonso starting to knock on the door also. This guy can hit big time so let's hope he can get his D together to be at least average.

According to some on here Lagares doesn't even belong on a major league roster.

He's a 5th OF and marginal major leaguer. If he could hit, he'd be a very good player but he can't hit. Rather big problem for him. His game is more suited for AL whereby a team could cover his offensive limitations with a DH.

The guyis hitting. 348 (13/38) but he cant hit. Maybe he's finally turned the corner.

Basing your opinion on a small sample of 38 AB's...come on! Trust me, if Lagares turned it around, he'd be in the lineup every day with a new manger and coaching staff. The Mets lack consistent offensive threats and unfortunately Lagares doesn't help the cause.

For those who are down on the Mets and the d-bag Yankees fans mocking the Mets, lets look where the Mets are at:
1. 17-9- second best record in NLand third best record in baseball
2. First place in their division by 1.5 games
3. The above with pitching and hitting that has been sub par

#3 could be a cause for concern or a cause for optimism. Mets hit a skid in the last 10 games. So did Boston. So did Cleveland. Don't think it is time to circle the wagons yet. That usually happens in late May or early June for Mets fans. :grimace:

But,but, but, low life Yankee fans,"just a couple", were saying the Mets would be back behind the Nationals by the tax deadline, lol. Also their side bet was behind the Evil Empire by that same deadline! Here it is May 1st, and neither is true.
