OT: Ohio State selling tickets to preseason practices... for $50 a pop

Nah… Some are too busy trying engage others into a Johnson measuring contest putting others down instead of having mature conversations.

To your point, there’s some who may want to check out the OL drills. Or WR/DB, 7 v 7 battles on Wednesdays. Or some who probably can’t make it on Saturdays so he’d plop down a 10/ 20 for practice. Kids may get into practice being up close (as close as up close can be for practices).

It’s an interesting idea and if you can set up bleachers on the perimeter like at the Giants Stadium practice facilities… maybe:
I think it's an interesting concept and thinking outside the box
What bothers most people is the idea of paying for things on a one off instead of all at once

E.G., if you buy season tickets and a portion went towards NIL and another portion of the cost went towards watching an open practice, nobody would care

In regard to Boosters, if you donate enough money, you get certain perks

Personally, I just love football and the chance to watch a practice for $50.00 is something I would do in a heartbeat

Really? I learned a lot while I practiced. I learned nothing watching Floods team practice (and the team as well! But he took notes lol). And went to one Ash practice with a bunch of fellow former players. Nobody was learning anything. My god he was not head coach material.
If they are selling tickets to a scrimmage maybe it's worth it for someone. But football practice is boring to watch. The team is split up into many parts.
Particularly nowadays when they don't even hit anymore.

You've already indirectly paid to attend

They're not inviting the young alumni season ticket holders to them
Same with dinner on the field
Or GS's introductory press conference when he returned

never had dinner on the field (I'm not that big of a donor) but did get an invite to GS intro press conference. I actually won at least one of my practice visits in a tricky tray when they did Lady Football Camp (I guess I paid because I had to purchase tickets for the tricky tray).

My favorite thing I got invited too was the Senior Night Awards. That was a lot of fun and I got to hear JPO give his "this is Jersey Baby" speech. The crowd was going nuts. Such a fun night.

I hope Rutgers starts doing this

With soccer on the weekends, it's hard for my wife and daughter to attend games
This would be a great opportunity to introduce them to Rutgers football on a whole new level

$150 for 3 people is the equivalent to a nice dinner out - so why not sacrifice that in order to live, up close, Big Ten football?
I disagree as a great way to introduce them. I think practice is the worst way to introduce the sport. You know this is going to be the blandest practice because they don’t want any secrets out. Likely they won’t be scrimmaging and most of it going to be boring position drills. How exciting can be rv running over bags or watching line practice first steps be? I honestly think after 5 minutes they would be bored to death.

I mean, listen, we're talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, we talking about practice. Not a game. Not, not... Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last. Not the game, but we're talking about practice, man. I mean, how silly is that?.. And we talking about practice.
I find it hard to believe. There must be something else to this that we don't know about...

Listen not everyone has played this game . Very few have played at a high level, like yourself . Many people can learn a lot by watching a practice
Most sports fans of any team in any sport are not that sophisticated. They favor removal of all possible restrictions on offense so that every game ends with three billion points scored, because that entertains them. I seriously doubt many fans would do this for the sake of learning. Just my opinion...

The only way this is fun for a kid is if there's an autograph session or meet and greet involved. And if I were bringing a kid, I'd purposely skip the first at least 30 minutes, maybe more if the autograph session is after.

A somewhat serious middle school Pop Warner or high school player might get something out, but that's about it. Even a diehard fan would be bored. Scrimmages would be mostly fine as they at least resemble a game and are at "live" speed.

That's kind of my point though, is that we all love the game day atmosphere, excitement, tailgating, etc.
But the other ancilary stuff (practices, meet the team, events) are also super fun
For $50, it's an experience that won't break the bank, and if it's not that fun, most people won't do it again

Best way to introduce them is gameday and tailgating
This would be the next best thing though, as there's live hitting and likely other things to keep kids occupied

That's fair
Agree if they had something for the kids that would definitely help
Personally, I enjoy practices but I'm also an admitted crazed football geek

I'm old enough to remember when in the early days in Schiano part 1, all Rutgers summer practices were free and open to the public. You'd just walk in the gates at the turf practice field and stay behind the ropes.

Now if a reporter dares to say Chrsitan Dremel caught a 10-yard pass on a stop and go pattern during a drill, the reporter would be banned for life.

It's all so silly.

"Colorado is exactly 12 days from its opening contest against staunch Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) powerhouse North Dakota State, a nine-time FCS national champion since 2011."

Intriguing first game opponent:

"Here’s the problem for Colorado.
North Dakota State struggled against teams that ran well, not those that could throw.
It might be a new year, and these might be new teams, but even with Colorado trying to balance things out a bit more, the bread will still be buttered through the air."

Colorado vs North Dakota State Prediction, Betting Lines

Colorado 34, North Dakota State 30
Line: Colorado -8.5, o/u: 59.5
ATS Confidence out of 5: 3

NU did one at $25 a person. Money went straight to the NIL fund. Sounds like volleyball and hoops are going to do them too. Volleyball won’t be this year though.

That is a great idea, how many did you guys draw for the practice? How much did you guys raise? Hoping that we start to do something like this in the near future

Got a question for you-- we are going to the RU Nebraska game this year. Checked a Reddit thread (a go to source for football info on this board, ha, ha) on where to park for Nebraska games. We don't mind walking 1-1.5 miles. Are the 19th and Vine and 17th and R parking garages pay the day of the game, meaning that if we arrive 2-3 hours ahead of kickoff, we should get into one of those garages without a problem?

Practice isn't close to game situation at all. It's like watching 7 units doing say ... jumping jacks. Or watching different units doing sprints then the whole team doing 100 yards sprints to end the session and watching lineman try to run is the funniest thing ever
You know what.. when I read this post my only reference point was the Kevin Hart ads... so I tried to drop a meme on that and found the original source.. this is great stuff...

19th and vine would put you about 3/4 mile from east entrance gates. Do you know your gate number? The stadium is on 10th and Vine basically. Them particular ones are the closest non donor lots and fill up fast. 3hrs would be best. You are about 1 1/2miles from the Haymarket area from there which is on the West side of stadium. If want to go to Haymarket check Haymarket Park(baseball field) for parking. It’s is closer to everything. I will try and post a map later with some directions. Visitors generally enter through West stadium. None of the parking lots are easy to get out of immediately following game for at least an hour and generally it’s best to hang for a while somewhere.

$50.00 Sounds about right.
What would have cost 5 bucks when I was a kid is now 50😊
Yeah.. seems worth it for fans.. probably better than a game for many... and cheaper. make watching the games on TV more relatable.

I think the fb one raised about $250k. Nebraska’s NIL is more secretive than the nuclear launch codes…

Agreed. If they can’t make it to the game, fans would go straight to the WRs, DBs, QB Indy’s and cheer them on during drills and 7v7s. Some who’s into the physical stuff might go watch inside run or teams. Like GOR said, this would have the fans KNOW who the players are when they see them on TV or live at the games.

Thanks! Our tickets are in Visitor section 19.
We don't mind walking a few miles, and our plan was to arrive early, Check out Haymarket before (and if necessary, after the game). I will look into the baseball field parking.

Thanks again!!

There’s usually bike chariots running around everywhere too. There’s also the option to park at a Walmart about 5miles away and ride the bus. I think it’s free. Also keep an eye on seat geek as game gets closer. Sometimes you can buy a parking pass pretty reasonable. Mine are taken for the year or I would give you one. I have people that ask if I want one every now and then. If one comes up I will grab it. If you don’t want it’ll be easy to get rid of.

i love the idea of bike chariots to shuttle people around.

Where are the petty cabs, correct? The best, most fun and often cheapest motive transportation around.

I guess the baseball field is donor parking now.
I reviewed that map. Thanks for the offers. That Reddit thread had a couple of closer options, one being a lot that benefits the Boy Scouts, and there was another option. We don't mind paying $20-25 (or more) to park. It's a lot more for us at Rutgers.

We are fine walking a distance. 1.5 miles is nothing to us. Hoping we don't have a long "miserable" walk back to parking after the game!
