OT (or not): RU Endowment Finally Reaches $1B Mark

fantastic... now if we can keep the donations towards endowment rolling in and invest like Yale :)

Alot of the increase is due to taking on UMDNJs endowment. But obviously htere has also been an increase on top of that - which is good. Its certainly good PR.

Just to clarify - the $300 milliin was all donations in the $1 billion campaign. Im not sure how much went to the endowment, but it wasnt all of it.

While it is great RU finally reached the $ 1 Billion mark, it being a school of 55,000 undergraduates and 10,000 graduate students means they are behind many schools with less than a 10th of students as RU. Lehigh University with 5000 undergrads and 2000 graduate students has an endowment of $ 1.22 Billion. RU has alot of catching up to do!

Im a bit naïve here...

How many US universitires have a billion dollar endowment and what are the endowments of the other 13 big ten schools?

In the Big Ten, Michigan and Northwestern each have roughly $10 Billion. Most of the other Big Ten schools have between $2 billion and $5 billion. So, we have a ways to go...

The sad thing is that, as a university, I would think that RU has had the potential to be at $Billions more in endowments for a long time. Great to have this milestone behind us. Now, let's keep it going1

It's not my sector anymore, but when I talked to the endowment guys 18 months ago, they were planning on keeping both endowments completely separate. Things may have changed after that.

Many have Billion dollar endowments (though Maryland's is surprisingly low for a major U with law and Med schools). The elite schools all have billion dollar endowments, even most of the small ones. Amherst (1800 students) and Middlebury (2400 undergrads) each have billion dollar endowments.

Obviously it's time for the politicians to say we need to use the endowment to lower tuition.. And blame football.

Think about Harvard. 38 Billion dollar endowment. Obviously there is a limited amount of infrastructure they can build, wouldn't cost billions. How about spending more money on medical research. Do something good with the money instead of hoarding way more than you need. Just my opinion, understandably they can do with it anything they want, its their money.

There have been leaders of some small cash strapped colleges wondering if the Ivy league endowment of 117 Billion could be used to help fund some more opportunities for Kids to attend colleges other than Ivy league.

I doubt you'll see the Ivy's part with any of that money any time soon.

I could see a Harvard saying they will set aside X to pay graduate school at Harvard for the best students who attend state universities... That put the cost of attending state onto someone else and they get the benefit of getting the best motivated and highest achieving for their grsad school.

No. F them.
I'm not suggesting we hold hands with them and sing Kumbaya, I hate them as much as the next guy. It just always came across as so weak that he refused to call them by name while they were eating his lunch in recruiting and beating us on the field to boot.

Maybe I'll switch to Nitwits. Don't like "the Cult". State Penn is an oldie but a goodie. Still, I do like TTFP - faster to type than those.
