OT: Oregon State and Washington State are likely to join the West Coast Conference

Wazzu and Oregon State commented that they bring more to the table for a Power 5 conference than Rutgers. They claim to bring more viewers and value to a power conference than Rutgers. WSU and OSU felt they were better overall in basketball and football. And they believed their Olympic sports were superior across the board.

Surprised both schools didn’t join MWC as full members. Don’t know if it has to do with any legal issues pertaining to Pac 12 or maybe they’re hoping for an invite to Big 12 or even ACC down the road - as odd as that may seem.

If the CAA invited them how would they manage with 16 teams in a conference tournament.

Would do wonders for Monmouth’s NET - let alone it’s travel budget.

I recall you being very well versed / interested in Conference Realignment so here are some nuggets :

Talking about the CAA, Delaware was poached by CUSA. There’s also been some talk / chatter about UMass going to CUSA. Could be announced in Spring / Summer.

Schools rumored several years ago that the CAA was interested in are Albany and Fairfield - something to keep an 👁 on.

Uh what? What's the source on that?

Sad end to those programs…left to wither into a scheduling afterthought. I hope they refuse to schedule any former pac teams…
Actually in football and I'm sure for basketball as well - Washington will be playing Wash State and Oregon will be playing Oregon State for the next few years.

It is quite sad for the Beavers and for the Cougars to go from being a P5 School to in essence now being independents = which they will be in football with some type of scheduling alliance with the MWC.

I'm sure the schools will play its past conference mates in BB just for the sake of proximity / travel cost savings etc.

The PAC12 got carved up in a tier system of value,

BIG 10
UCLA, USC, Washington, Oregon

BIG 12
Arizona, ASU, Colorado, Utah

ACC
California, Stanford

WCC
Oregon State, Washington State

Another hard lesion on why you never want to be near the bottom when the chairs get removed and the music stops…and in no world do schools in Corvallis, Oregon and Pullman, Washington bring more value than Rutgers…

Not the first time RU has been used as a measuring stick
In this case it seems uncalled for since we are not in any way located in their universe
They should have had a better example of a local rival that fits

Rumors are also that Charleston will jump from CAA to A-10 which would make sense

Uh what? What's the source on that?
I saw it several months ago on Twitter from a local reporter (Spokane), then different messages boards for Wazzu and Oregon State ran with it. Even other Pac 12 and Big 12 schools mocked us. They believe Ash represents our entire history in football.

The reason Rutgers was selected for the B1G Ten Conference was the media market in the New York Metropolitan area and its academic reputation as a major university. The performance of the football and men's basketball team were cited by critics as reasons for non selection.

I don’t think the door is all the way shut for them yet.

Once FSU leaves the ACC, others will have a way out. I’d be willing to bet Cal, WSU, Oregon State, Stanford end up in MWC

They must hate UCLA And USC more than we hated Cuse, BC and Pitt
They should hate conference leadership more.

I live in PAC12 country, I can’t tell you how many Saturdays I’ve been at bars where CU “fans” walk in asking if they’ll have the CU game on and the bartender has to explain how the conference never made an agreement with Direct TV or YouTube TV.

Exactly. The conference leader blew it big time. He had the opportunity to add Texas and Oklahoma a decade ago. The ACC blew it too. Both were arrogant and thought their leagues (and to a lesser extent, academics), mattered more than money.

It’s not relevant.
Our conference didn’t implode

They brought nothing, that's why no one wanted them .
Just a whine without anything to make it a legit complaint .

What about the supposed merger of the two teams with the ACC?

So wazzu and the beavers were thrown a crumb…you may play your “more” important state rival as a pity “we need an easy win” type game…the pretension is palpable. They probably have no better options…there’s not much around…Montana? Idaho? Nevada? Utah State?

RIP pac…you had a nice run…

Wonder how long Cal and Stanford stay in the ACC.
That may be determined by Notre Dame. Notre Dame may be determined by Florida State. The music is still playing and schools are still circling the chairs.

Maybe or maybe not. Notre Dame may decide what happens to Stanford and Stanford would like to have Cal with it. That may be a three way package.

I don’t think that’s the deal anymore.

If FSU jumps to the B1G then ND officially no longer has leverage.

We’ve hit a point where it would be nice to have the ND brand locked up in the B1G, but this thing is going with or without them.

If ND leadership doesn’t adapt they’re going to be playing Syracuse, Pitt, Tulane, Memphis, BC, etc.

These conferences are getting large and the second the SEC and B1G sign a scheduling deal they are screwed.

The ESPN ticker says the WCC deal is for one year.

I think the Beavs and Wazzou want to keep the PAC 12 alive and ultimately convince the better MWC schools to come to them.
Yes. OSU and WSU likely want to cherry pick at least six MWC teams and keep the PAC-12 brand (and maybe P5 status) alive. However, the position of the MWC is that they all go or nobody goes - no member will be left behind. If the PAC-2 wanted the entire MWC to merge into them, I think it would have already happened. So we'll see.

The most interesting proposal I have seen is a promotion/relegation system between an 8 team PAC-12 and an 8 team MWC (they'd have to add two). I doubt that happens but who knows.

I've had DirecTV, Xfinity (Comcast) and now YouTube TV since the Pac 12 Network was created. Not once has that channel ever been offered. Has been mentioned elsewhere, but going it alone - and not teaming with the likes of Fox and ESPN - was incredibly dumb.
