OT OT OT: Villanova (This thread is OT)

Where is the OT?

Not even close to being FB related here.
I'm sorry but did you really need OT to be in the title? You read a title called Villanova, posted when they were playing in the final four game, and thought it was football related because it didn't have OT in front?

I can see it now...if Syracuse beats unc, all the BE nostalgia will be epic! Mike lupica will wet himself...:joy:

Oklahoma was the only one left I could root for.
Nova, Syracuse and the Tar Heels are on my do not root for list.

Nova for being part of the Providence gang that destroyed any chance of BE football
being something that would help it's football schools and be a good conference instead of being something you can't wait to leave and are jealous of the programs that got out.

Syracuse for just being an useless FB program that thought they still were a major [power and acted that way.
But it's the we didn't cheat, only broke the rules attitude their HC has that turns me off of Orange basketball. Otherwise I'd forget the FB past and admit that they have a program that proved they belong and are making the most of the invite they received.

North Carolina because the NCAA won't do it;s job and allows them to play in the tourney
when a lesser program would be sitting at home waiting for more of the hammer to hit them.

Now the Tourney doesn't have a thing for me to root for and Nova might just be my default program.
At least they deserve to be in the tourney and not sitting at home because they cheated.

Does it have anything to to with Rutgers Football?

At the minimum, were they at least playing a B1G team?

On the BB Board I could see your confusion with this concept.

But not here.

Most useless tournament ever. An earthquake at gametime would work just fine for me.

The only game I watched was the first half of this game. And it was really only on in the background.

Dude you have issues. Let it go. In case you haven't heard, Rutgers is in the Big Ten thanks to those clowns who ruined the Big East. You should be thanking them! [banana]

Know Rutgers is doing better, but still have issues with how the Providence gang never allowed it's football side to thrive and see no reason to root for part of it.
Letting it go is easy most of the time, but when it's time to root for a school like Nova, it pops up.

I hear you that the Providence Mob were a bunch of a-hole and them some of them left. But in the end it was Rutgers that won the lottery and all because of their mismanagement.

There is a lot of truth in this. Had the Providence Mafia managed things even halfway competently, the Big East might have prospered to the extent that leaving could have been a more difficult decision. Maybe. But since they did horribly mismanage the league and left us hung out to dry, leaving for the B1G was a foregone conclusion. A strong Big East football league might have muddied the waters. Although in retrospect, I kind of doubt it. In the end, we really did win the lottery.

If it wasn't for Nova seriously thinking about moving up in football maybe the other members wouldn't have went running for this hills and we wouldn't have left for the Big Ten.

Maybe not, but that is the only way to see this as a good thing :)

Are your crazy? Under no circumstances Rutgers would turned down an invite to the Big Ten!

Rutgers being in the Big Ten was not caused by Big East mismanagement. If the BE was run competently, we'd still be in the B1G, but our football program would be stronger and we would have made a lot more money during the BE years.

And perhaps we would have been more attractive as an athletic program rather than just a market and could have negotiated better entrance terms.

Villanova just won the championship as UNC will have to vacate it if they win tomorrow night once the NCAA gets its act together.

You can't be serious. Maryland left a much better situation, a better conference and had a much bigger buyout and got the same deal as Rutgers.
Do you really think Rutgers would have played hard ball under any circumstances and risk a shot at joining the Big Ten?

My hat goes off to Villanova and the Big East. I hope 2016 resembles 1985 when Rollie Massimino out coached John Thompson, Ed Pinckney outplayed Patrick Ewing and Gary McLain simply couldn't miss!! Go Big East and Go Wildcats!!

I think Maryland's deal has it receiving more money than Rutgers from B1G revenue sharing right now, but less on the back end equalizing the total distribution of funds they will have received by the time both schools are eligible for a full share.

Not suggesting we would have played hardball but IMO UMD got a better deal by getting more of their transitional period conference revenue front loaded. And they have Plank and UA behind them. I realize that at the end of the day Nebraska, Maryland and Rutgers came in on essentially the same terms regarding length of buy in period and average annual conference revenue prior to full share but we had absolutely no leverage to seek a front loaded deal.
