So when I get to the Piggly Wiggly here in the Carolinas they have the roll in canvas packing or the plasticized 4 pre sliced in a box. Have to admit it but once I slice up the canvas roll and pick off the leftover canvas flyboys, that somehow tastes better. With the eggs and cheese on the bisquick and the grits,as an afterthought, I am in hog heaven.

Taylor Ham in the 8 pack is the preference in my house. Don't use it fast enough to justify buying the canvas packed size.

Canvas pack allows you to determine how thick you like your slices.

A bigger question is How many cuts do you make on the edges of the slice of Pork Roll when frying it?
I like to make 1 cut to the center (like Pac Man).

I buy it sliced at home. Then make one cut when frying. My nephew went to school out of state, where they have some crap called scrapple. We used to bring him the canvas when we would visit. He would have a party and invite his other NJ friends over.

Well you may be missing something my friend. Try it in the canvas roll, wipe off the retreads, slice it to fit your needs and freeze the bounty. Your family will be well served. It will be like hunting Spruce Run and Round Valley on Thanksgiving morning,

Ever seen scrapple being made?

I use a four 45 degree cuts with a pair of scissors, the canvas is the best way to go,
however seeing that I'm the only one in the family, that eats it, my wife sometimes
buys the prepacked slices.

8 pack. thin sliced. 1 cut. Pork Roll.

(scrapple is vile. just vile. I watched Mike Rowe do a Dirty Jobs episode on Scrapple once. almost vomited just watching it)

Wait, you guys that buy canvas (as God intended) don't slit the canvas and roll it down a half inch at a time? You actually cut the canvas with each slice?

Grew up eating Scrapple and loved it . . . . Until I was old enough to know what was in it.

Thanks for the thread. I think I'll make a Taylor ham & egg on a hard roll. SPK. Damn....can't find a good hard roll in Sarasota.

That's how it's supposed to be done you then fold the canvas over the cut end. Why would anyone cut through the canvas. Cut it thick then four small slits around the edges. Also scrapple sucks my father love the crap I used to drown it in syrup to eat it.

Southern, we know you can read. So you should definitely be on the pork roll side. Just read the packaging!

There is no debate

And you can call "Band-Aids" "plastic strips." I'll stick with band-aids.

How about we end the "debate" with: Connoisseurs refer to it as Taylor Ham. Eaters call it pork roll.

Why would anyone call "Band Aids" "plastic strips" ? They are a brand of Self-Adhesive Bandages that may or may not be made with plastic.

That's the point. The package says 'Band-Aid Brand' and then reads 'plastic strips', and I'm sure that some packages state 'self-adhesive bandages. 'Nobody calls them 'self-adhesive bandages' or 'plastic strips.' Everybody call them 'band-aids.'

Now look at the breakfast meat package pictured above. It reads "Taylor."
Granted, it doesn't say "Ham" probably because there's a technicality on labelling that prevents the company from saying it's ham. But we all know basically what's in there. Later the package states 'pork roll.' The situation seems a lot like the Band-Aid example. Just because it says 'self-adhesive bandage' (substitute 'pork roll' here) doesn't men we should call it that. We call it "Band-Aid" (substitute "Taylor Ham here).

As an aside.....Shop-Rite used to sell a "Pork Roll" that tasted like crap compared to Taylor Ham. Same canvas package. Now, if you want to call THAT 'pork roll' feel free. It's not Taylor Ham.

PS: I hope Ash appreciates the education he's getting here. Won't get this stuff in Iowa or Ohio.

This is like a Chicagoan complaining about the pizza in New York.

Case's or Loeffler's in canvas.

Wait, are you saying you prefer scrapple? I can't even look at that stuff. Exactly what color is that supposed to be; grey or beige? I can't speak for everybody, but I'd rather eat ANY form of canned meat than crapple.
