Like him first few yrs as Jets coach but soured on his lack of offensive knowledge and blow hard comments......

Craig Carton had one of the funniest lines about Rex. He said that he's just like Sid Fernandez of the Mets, and then recounted the year that Sid reported to Mets spring training in shape, having lost around 30 pounds, and then couldn't get anyone out. Carton said similarly with Rex, once he lost weight, he simultaneously lost his ability to coach.

Rex is a lot like his father - brash - bombastic - initially inspiring - whips a team of grown men up to high levels - gets them to fight above their weight class - and then the air begins to leak out of the balloon .. things sag ... and look sloppy ... and the grown men start to say - uh ... this does not work for me on an ongoing basis ...

Billy Martin had a lot of this in him - but Billy managed to deliver it in a targeted way that did manage to get him to win a championship as a manager.

If Rex was given an infinite number of HC positions ... with top notch talent ... eventually he might win a championship - but it would have to be in the first or second year.

Really? I thought free agency won Billy Martin a championship as a manager.

Yes, they did. Didn't the Yankees outspend all other teams?

1. I'm not exactly the biggest Billy Martin fan, but championships count....no matter how much you pay your players.
2. I don't understand why some continue to lack appreciation for an owner who will go out and spend money to improve his ball club...especially when there is no salary cap.
I want the leadership of all of my teams to try to upgrade the talent level of those teams. It's somehow better if he puts his money back in his pocket ?

He's getting $5.5mil/year for the next 3 years. Tough life!

Just how many of their head coaches have the Buffalo Bills fired? I know they fired their last head coach with a winning record, Wade Phillips.

Never assume. As a Red Sox fan I certainly appreciate an owner who will spend to
build a better team. But, lets be honest, it's not a level playing field for all teams.

Buffalo is a great football town, but a very hard place to win.

He had his team in the playoff hunt week 16 of the season.

He's a bombastic PITA. but, not sure they will do any better next time.

It's getting ridiculous in the NFL. Bills can't make the playoffs for 15 years, they hire Rex and don't even give him two full seasons?

+1. He was 15-16 in two years with Buffalo. He would've beat the Jets this week too. I guess .500 over 2 years with Tyrod Taylor and an injury prone Watkins gets you fired? Welcome to the new NFL.

He came to town talking big. Talked about building a bully. But instead took a very stout defense and had them regress to where they were having the ball run down their throats consistently. There was no upward trajectory. If you hang your hat on defense you'd better have a good one. Not one that has become worse under your watch.

He already lost to the Pickspatrick led Jets at home where his defense couldn't stop that always potent Jets offense. If he hadn't lost that one and given up 33 unanswered points to the Raiders in about a quarter and a half then just maybe he'd have a job today cause the team would probably be playoff bound. Just this week Tyrod Taylor and the offense put up close to 600 yards of offense, didn't turn the ball over once and they lost.
