OT: Rutgers ice hockey

I am sorry but Cali is right we do not fund other sports at a rate is is comparable to the rest of the B1G so then you want to add a sport that is incredibly costly, without a plan to manage the Title IX

No. We don't fully or adequately fund our current sports & are non competitive in most yet you want to add to the drain by adding hockey? Maybe in 20 yrs we can consider it. Fully fund & compete in the current sports.

+1
As much as I love Ice Hockey ( play it twice a week all year round) and would support RU Hockey to the max, we just need fix our Budget deficit on current RU Athletics. Maybe down the road.......

Thank you for those that signed up. There have been 36 additional supporters. Obviously this program needs money ( and lots of it) and interest but who knows what can happen in 5-10-15 years. If someone told me 10 years ago RU would even be in the big ten I would not have believed it. Happy new year

Cali, I get it, you're against it. Not every d1 team has a rink on campus, this I know for a fact...

I'm all for RU hockey BUT only if its fully and properly funded, including on campus arena and practice facilities. Otherwise absurd. The kids we'd be recruiting would laugh at anything less. Why would they come here?

U
What's our home attendance now for club hockey? What would you guesstimate our home attendance would average per game in an on campus & off campus arena? All home games at the Rock or some at Protec? What does Protec seat 500? ASU plays most home games at Oceanside, which sat 500 & expanded to 840, & some at Gila River Arena. I'm not sure that hockey attendance would eclipse wrestling which had 2,697/match last year.
Title IX & schollies.

I get the title IX. That is why I said "if". Scholarships are soft money. School does not actually spend money on scholarships. I know there are ancillary expenses such as housing, insurance, etc. The point was "if" you were going to add a men's team, swimming would make most sense from a cost perspective.

It is very unlikely that people willing to donate towards a hockey team would instead be interested in donating towards basketball. The money would come from local hockey people, not just Rutgers people.

The people behind the petition have been working on raising funds. I'm sure you will ignore this post just like you ignore every single post in which I try to explain that they are working to raise funds and that this petition isn't the be all, end all of their efforts, but I guess I'll keep saying it anyway. They know it's a longshot, they know it will take millions, and they know they need to raise it on their own. The purpose of the petition is to demonstrate that there is enough interest. Without that, why would the potential donors be willing to donate towards it?

Ignore your posts? Never. People signing a petition doesn't show interest. It means nothing. Contributing money shows interest. Start listing the donations that have been pledged, that will help garner more.

Until there is enough to fully fund the team, support staff, on campus arena and the corresponding women team, also fully funded with corresponding supporting staff, this is just not productive to making Rutgers better. It's not going to take millions. It's going to take tens of millions. Like I said, PSU needed a donation of $100MM to make it happen.

I will sign any petition you want after seeing those monies raised. I will mean as much as me signing it now.

It's all about the proper funding being raised. Nothing more.

I would be a season ticket holder..but NOT unless the program is properly built and funded. So, not interested in supporting a team without on campus facilities. Will not go to games at Bridgewater etc. No interest in Newark. ONLY here on campus. Sorry.

BOTH sides in this discussion are looking at it the wrong way...

UConn is the model for this NOT State Penn.

There are a few sports that should be reinstated
- - - for example ... Men's Swimming - - - - - -
- already have the facility
- not a lot of expensive equipment needed
- NJ has strong HS swimming programs .

And it's very B1G-ish.

John Buccigross was wearing a Rutgers hockey jersey on SportsCenter tonight while discussing the Beanpot tournament.

While I appreciate the coverage this one and some of the others they have had in the past are IMO really bad.

Make one that looks like this and I bet it would move...

1. Devils colors/style: red, black shoulders, striping on sleeves and bottom.
2. Ranger-like "RUTGERS" on an angle in the correct font.
3. Knightheads on the shoulders (that one I could take it or leave it).
4 Black shell (pants) with either the Knighthead, Block R on the thigh.
5. Helmets like what the older FB ones looked like (B1G thing).

The girls almost have it right...

I'd love to see it happen, but unless we get a new arena that can do both basketball and hockey as well as a practice facility for the basketball squads and a practice facility/rink for the hockey squads it's just not feasible.
