OT: Shea Patterson to transfer to IMG

And he's already decommitted once. Anyone think his recruitment is really closed?

For some reason I get the sense that this guy is going to be the second coming of Jeff George.

shhhhhhhh
From this 2014 article ...

Standard tuition for one year of boarding at IMG Academy is $68,500 plus a team sport competition and training gear fee that ranges from $3,750-$4,250 depending on the sport. A single semester costs $39,400.
Stokes’ father, Jeff Stokes Sr., said his son is on a combined academic and athletic scholarship that covers 90 percent of all costs, though he did not specify exactly how much he’s paying for his son to attend. Kendrick Osborn Sr. – K.J.’s father – said K.J.’s tuition is significantly lower than that advertised on IMG’s website, but also declined to disclose the exact amount.

Who do they play? It sounds like its sports first and then school. I would hate to be the parent of a player on the local high school team that that have 6 foot linemen weighing 200 lbs and 5"10' linebackers at 180 lbs playing theses guys. Getting killed both score wise and physically.

They've just started playing HS football about 2 years ago. Last year they were 9-1 and beat a very strong St Peter'sPrep team by over 2 touchdowns. This year they play both St Joe (Montvale) and Paramus Catholic in Florida. They have become a national power very quickly, but when you consider their recruiting and resources, it's no wonder.

I believe his brother is now coaching at Ole Miss where he committed. And believe the same brother was once at Arizona, where Shea was committed at one point, and then went to LSU...where he was expected to commit.

Have a good friend that sent his son there for baseball for 2 years. He was a high draft pick in the Cardinals org. At the time he enrolled he had firm FSU and UF offers amongst others. I'm not saying some kids don't get support but it cost my buddy $80k per year.

Why would high school football teams play what seems to be a semi pro team? I'm sure they give scholarships to the national stars to attract others whose parents will pay full freight in the hope or belief their kid will be a pro and get the money back

At the end of the day it's just like the NJ parochials with room and boarding. No different really.

In terms of sports, to use an SAT analogy, IMG is to the Parochials as the Parochials are to the Publics...and agreed with Hooeagle. IMG seems like an AAU team that started a school.

It the same thing the DB,PC,SP and other high schools in NJ are doing. No one complains when these kid leave their home town schools and go to a Jersey powerhouse. The next step is for these kids to leave the state. Be careful what u wish for it will only get worse.

Don't worry about these IMG kids.. nothing can go wrong with sending young adults away from home and into an environment where athletes are golden gods and they are completely surrounded by them. (it might work, it might not.. we shall see).

Overall it reminds me of the article/series The Record did last year on the AAU-type private-pay travel baseball team based out of Teaneck last year. The overall synopsis IIRC was if you love baseball and love playing a lot and being immersed in the sport, it was great, but if you're doing it to find the 'pot of gold' at the end of the scholarship/ draft rainbow, don't quit Plan A or even Plan B. I'm sure IMG is great at refining excellent talent, but I doubt they're going to take Johnny Milquetoast and turn him into Zeus Heisman.

Some of the parochials in Jersey and teams like IMG are nothing short of All Star teams. Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas is another of those and has grown into a football and basketball powerhouse in the West. They recruit the fertile Southern California prep scene and play a tough national schedule (albeit most of their football games are played on their beautiful home field). Ironically, the largest benefactor of Gorman, which is a parochial school, is the Fertitta family, which owns the Station Casinos in Vegas and the lucrative Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). My niece went to school there and I went to her graduation a few years ago and one of the Fertittas was the commencement speaker. It was like Pete Rose addressing the College of Cardinals on the subject of good and evil.

He is a pro and not a student. If a scholarship is given to him, he is actually getting $50K a year to play football. This is the reason why I don't take CFB seriously any more. It is a semi-pro league masquerading as bunch of scholars playing a game. The last football game played with scholars on both sides was between Rutgers and Princeton in 1869.

you must be new here.......people complain about it once a week here.

I dont think people complain 'weekly' about it. In defense of the parochials, a number of them do have rigorous academics (St. Peter's, DBP from what I've heard, etc) and do try to prepare students for life outside of sports as well. With IMG, I give them credit for at least being upfront that it's literately a 'sports school' and they dont seem to make any bones about it. I wonder what the academics there are like (no clue either way)...from what I guess, if you go there and pay in full, you really better hope that you earn at least a full 1AA ride and/or get drafted or else you literately just spent more in one year to attend HS and a fancy sports camp than the combined costs of my Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Rutgers.

Fertitta's kid obviously played at Gorman and is going to ND. Gorman has had a lot of famous people's kids go there. I think Snoop's kid was also a Gorman kid.

Yup, ESPN has a special on it, with the kid of the UFC dad also on the team.

Think a bunch of tennis pro's from the U.S. go to IMG for the training they get. You better damn well become a pro athlete in something for spending 80k on f'ng high school.

IMG academy is the same IMG that Pernetti works for. it is the same place that Agassi went as a kid. Called Bolerteri school or something like that then. They just expanded.

It's the same place where professional athletes, with their IMG agents go train at the IMG Facilities where the IMG academy kids are training. Lots of Chineese walls.

Thought Tim went to work for IMG College Multimedia, a marketing firm that has a deal with Rutgers after it bought out the marketing contract it had with Nelligan .
Your saying that's not the case and Pernetti works for a Prep School?

He is saying it is all the same IMG - same ownership.

You will get a better line on this team in 2015. Bergen catholic, Paramus catholic, and st joes Montvale all journey to Bradenton to play IMG. I guess they make it worth your while to do so.
But I guess that's the only way you have all , but one, of your games at home.

I would like to see what they are playing outside of their sphere of influence

I don't remember the exact numbers , and I am having trouble finding online, but St. Peters had two tds called back and had, as best I remember 23 penalties called

They did , however, beat St. Peters 36-20 but Petes put up nearly 600 yards of offense and only got 20 points
Would love to see a replay of that game at a neutral site

This is the dark side of HS sports but some parents are willing to do anything for a chance at the millions that a NFL or NBA job can offer.

Meanwhile the kids who play sports for fun are massacred when they play these all star HS teams. Not a huge deal in basketball since you just lose by 100 points but it can get very dangerous in football.

I live down here in Bradenton Fl.....if you look at the current recruits----6 are in the top 34 players in the country....also a few lady golfers came from here.....half of the pro soccer teams practice here in preseason....2 years ago when the Arizona cardinals decided to stay in florida for a week instead of going home, they stayed and practiced here...when Manti Te'o went into hiding, he held out here....Chris Weinke was 1st football coach--now Steve Walsh is the head of football operations....also former Cincy Red Chris Sabo is the baseball coach....all they do is recruit

It reminds of a scene from Gladiator when Maximus was arguing with Proximo before going out into the Colesium, shouting, "he had a vision that was Rome, this is NOT IT; THIS IS NOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!"

The USA under 17 soccer national team trains full time at IMG. They have been doing this for over a decade. There IMG academy used to have the students attend a local catholic school. I don't know if that is still the case or if they have their own school now.
