OT: Stock and Investment Talk

Same here. I buy high quality stocks when they get close to 52 week low and sell close to their high but sometimes I will jump aboard stocks that continue to go up without any retracement. This method is very conservative even though I trade a lot but allows me to be in more cash instead of being in the market all the time. This also allowed me to out of the market when the markets have crashed. I also believe in the buy and hold but it’s just not as fun, something to do in retirement about 1 hour a day.

There plenty of ways to make money in the market.
So you buy low and sell high…got it

I'm calling the big AI run is over. These plays may still go up a little, and maybe they don't come down right away, but the big run is over.

LH, BBY, BLK. All laggards ytd.

All with head and should bottoms and breaking past the downward trend.

The AI run will depend on the next NVDA earnings report. If they beat again (which is likely since JH is known to sandbag), the party will continue.

If they beat and raise that would be ridiculous.

Yet, I can't see them missing.
I would be very surprised if they don't beat and raise again. With revenue skyrocketing due to their H-100/AI chips, why give the "full" guidance change in one shot? Save some for a second bite at the apple.

Double beat for TSLA.

NFLX beats on earnings, but maybe not revenue, subs up along with the sharing password crackdown.

Pretty good quarter for IBM as well.

Make that a triple beat for Tesla. Tesla margin decrease also beat the analysts expectations. Price cuts and decrease margins, sure sounds like a car company than tech.

I’m finally positive with JNJ. Do you expect it to continue upward or do I sell it?
Yes, I expect it to go higher, at least back to $180'ish. The Kenvue spin-off is a nice value catalyst. I also believe the entire HC sector is screaming for a rally. UNH and JNJ should lead the way. Tech chopping for a while will likely be great for other sectors as they play catch up.

Have some Abbott Labs shares? It really hasn't gone up much over the last few years, despite what looked like some important medical progress.

Excellent quarter for ABT today and it had a nice 5% pop. Abbott is a great company, but I think many investors are in a holding pattern with ABT because their massive 2022 year of COVID-based sales is winding down. Not sure exactly where it will settle, so there may be a watch and wait dynamic at play.

Interesting rotation day for the market. HC and value were due for a strong session. Big earnings beat for J&J.
Totally agree. When one sector is flying for a prolonged period of time, some other sectors often lag. Then, ultimately, there is a rotation. Goes back and forth over and over again through the decades.

Ya its not nothing but given the run its been on this was a relatively modest move.
10% in one day is modest? Especially coming from you who write cover calls for small premiums. I like these”modest” gains but not loses.

That's why I bought value and HC so much this year. Needed to maintain allocation ranges. I don't sell/trim winners, but I will use new money to buy what's not working at that time.

Question for everyone:

Carvana. Meme of all memes? Or legit turn-around?
Trough rev's in 2023 of 10.6B. Market cap, after this monster run, is 10.6B.

Interestingly, like GME and AMC, CVNA doesn't look at all expensive on that metric, but they all currently lose money. AMC and GME do look like companies in a dying, or at least declining industry, CVNA maybe not so much, rev's from this trough are expected to climb 70% by 2026. But they do need to figure out how to actually make money.

I bought RVN last week. I think it’s gonna a longterm buy and hold for me. I’m a believer in their product and their future
Do you mean RIVN (Rivian)? If yes, I completely agree. Already own via my EV basket, but planning to buy LEAP calls in the near future (to swing for the fences).

Agreed, CVNA sooner or later needs to make money. Just don't see a company like this making it in the long run.

Looking at BDX I'd say it looks range bound the last 5 years or so. 220s on the low end and 250s on the high end. It's near the high end of the range currently.
BDX up 18 points(7%) before the open to new high 282. New breakout maybe time for it to run up. Keep it on your radar.

KSS gets on top of it's 200 day. Finishes up 5% to $26.42
More importantly, sold my first set of calls and made a whopping $52. LOL!
Seriously, just wanted to see how liquid they are. It was a good beta test. Learning a bunch. Eyeing more DIS LEAP calls in the near future. A few other opportunities on my radar.

Looks like China is starting to finally heat up. Big time gov'ment stimulus coming soon. What is the best play? YINN or KWEB/CWEB?

YINN (small percentage and mostly call options), BABA and BIDU would be my choice, but you have to have a stop loss on these Chinese stocks even though BABA's chart looks set up for an upward break.
