OT: Stock and Investment Talk

They have $500B in back orders. The market is essentially a duopoly. The new SBUX CEO is proven and kicked butt at CMG. Both seem like viable options.
Problem is they can't meet those backorders.

They had the backorders as the stock was tanking.

Only about a 7% return. That does not include dividends.

Don't forget there are dividends on the unrealized appreciation. This year it's about $6.50. On just the original purchase that would be over 30%. On the current price it's a little over 4%.

Agree but it’s the total value of your holdings today vs maybe other investments with equal or higher longterm returns that are held for the same time period

But that goes back to his point about “buy and hold”. Even at “only” 7% yearly he 8x’d his money over time. Need to stay in to compound those gains.
Charlie Munger = "The first rule of compounding: Never interrupt it unnecessarily"

Obviously, this more applies to an index fund than a specific stock, but we all get the point.

Looks good on paper but there is no point of reference.

What did the sp500 go up? How about aapl? Cost of living? Tuition? Healthcare?

You can always find something better. But the dividend was in the 4-4.5% range over those years. As they were not reinvested you'd have to ask what that went towards. Hypothetically, not in my case, if it reduced a credit card that was charging 14% or more that would be another benefit. And cost of living did not go up 11% annually over those years. I'm not sure it did in any of them.

SMCI down 15% in extended. Not sure what happened, but things seem to be getting worse. PLTR up a cool +22% on the day. LOL!

@rurahrah000 - PLTR over $50 now. Hold or trim?

7% compounded plus a 4% dividend(not sure if these are reinvested) are a solid performer in any portfolio.

Way outpacing cost of living.

Edit: Since the start of 1995, strictly on a price appreciation basis, the S&P has outperformed CVX by a score of 1100%-550%.

But interestingly all of that out performance is since Sept 2022, as it was a dead heat for the preceding 27 years.

And if we look at the last 12 years, the S&P is up 300% to about 50% CVX. For the first 17 years CVX was leading 300% to 120%.

I'm thinking this reflects the S&P leaning more heavily towards tech, while the likes of Oil and Gas as well as industrial's are out of favor. (could be an intersting discussion as to whether CVX is due for a catchup, or is tech going to continue to run away from oil stocks).

Based on Morningstar's growth chart, CVX and the S&P 500 are about equal since 1995. Stock price returns plus dividends.

Talked about it in the edit above, though I was just going off price, no dividend.

Does the total return also reflect significant outpeformance in the last 10-15 years?

CVX was better in the first half of the time period - 1995-2010. Then the S&P caught up during 2010-today.

People? Their auditor quit. They don't think the numbers are reliable.

Who is on the special committee? Any relatives?

You can't trust anything coming frome smci right now. They also have a shell corp set up. The family members control that company and smci is doing business with that company. They buy and sell to that company. They might be buying material under market value and then selling finished products over market price. The sales can be inflated.
People, meaning those selling the stock, thus causing the price to drop.

Musk once again proved why he is a genius. Bet big on Trump. Musk may be president one day.

Is Tesla’s gain = Rivian’s loss? Rivian getting crushed today.
For today? Yes.

I tend to think though, that in terms of election results, in the long run, what's good for TSLA is also good for RIVN.
