LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Connie Hamzy, a rock 'n' roll groupie from Arkansas who was immortalized as “sweet, sweet Connie” in the 1973 Grand Funk Railroad hit “We're an American Band,” has died.

Connie was definitely one of a kind. She went to grade school and high school with many of my friends. Yes, they have stories.

I don’t think she did drugs other than marijuana. And I can’t be sure of that. She shopped at my grocery store in downtown Little Rock. She also taught school for a while.

Her drug was something else.
