OT - Tennessee vs Va Tech at Bristol Speedway

Attending a NASCAR race at Bristol is on my bucket list. I haven't been there yet because it's in the middle of nowhere...lol.

Thus far I've been to Dover, Pocono, Phoenix and Sonoma.
none of my business but you could make it a stop before the 4 hour drive to Nashville for a few days. then North to Lexington, Kentucky to stop and visit horse farms

Been there done the Bristol race from 1990 - 2014 with season tix and 3 reserved camping spots for our MH and Alabama friends who we used to meet there. The Bama friends stopped coming in in 2012 and the races got boring with the Brain Fart France rules and the new banking. On way home last year we went wife said to me "It's not the same and look forward more to our stops on way down and back @ campground in Va". which I had to agree with her. So I have seen the changes from the old maybe 50,000 to the 150.000+ stands.
As far as the comment about being in the middle of no where That is so wrong on many accounts.
And yes the partying will be insane.

This may interest exactly no one but this town was the origin of recording country music
An RCA exec with one of the first portable recorders paid locals to sing , and be recorded . Then back to Chicago where the best were packaged and sold. The town square where it occurred is memorialized there.

Florida-Georgia is called the world's biggest outdoor cocktail party. This may go down as the world's biggest redneck party.

As someone who has lived his entire life an hour south of NYC and an hour north of Philadelphia, I'm sorry, but if Bristol, TN is not in the middle of nowhere you can certainly see it from there...lol

I don't care how "steep" the venue is take a LOOK at how far the vast majority of the seats are from the field! Remember we thought our old end zone (pre-1994) was far from the field? Well...think 3x further JUST to get to Row 1! Look at those pictures above LOL! Any comparison whatsoever, to Yankee Stadium, is moronic IMHO (and, yes, I agree the sight-lines there suck...).

Been to this facility - will be an awesome experience for those attending - the seat elevation an d angle will make up for the distance. Easy to throw rocks for something you never seen.

That photo is too funny, just think of how tiny the players will look from there, I think that they will disappear the closer they get to the other endzone.

The majority of the fans will be going to this game for the experience. The tailgate. Etc.

It's all about the atmosphere

Com'on Frank it's 200+ YARDS - not feet - from the bottom of the corner end zone seats to the far end zone corner.300+ yards from the top of that same section. Can't throw rocks from there without hitting someone 100 rows below you lol!

Fan sitting in the stands watching the game on their iPhones - glance up and say -

"Oh look! there's the football game going on over there"

Yes but it's almost midway between Knoxville, TN and Blacksburg, VA, home stadiums of Tenn and VT home stadiums right off I 81 interstate.

Like others have said this game is more about being at a one time CFB event rather than having good seats to a FB game. And the tailgate parties will be epic along with possibly the largest CFB crowd ever. Similar to fans going to see an outdoor hockey game at Michigan Stadium in 2010 between Michigan and MSU that drew 105K. It wasn't about the seats for that game but about being at an event.

Not for me, but others will want to be part of it. I will check it out on TV.

Nothing like being a half mile from the field in order to watch a football game.

This is a stupid venue to watch a football game with the seats so insanely far away from the field, but likely a great party tailgate event for 3 or more days. The players will look like ants. Those knocking us for hating on a game at dull, sterile Yankee Stadium & using this as an example have lost their mind. Yankee Stadium isn't an event & has weak tailgating, if any.

well I guess your opinion wins since you are judging from a wide angle picture perspective rather than actually been there.

Reminda me of watching final four in a football stadium. Shouldn't be too much different.

It's not a "wide angle picture" perspective. I'm going based on the distances, that's all, and those #'s are insane. Just so happens that the #'s are from the pic I copied from earlier in this thread. Think about watching a game from the corner of the North end one at HPSS, okay? My seats are 15 yards from the corner of the end zone. Furthest seats maybe 50 yards. Now...think about being maybe 8-15 times FURTHER away for, probably, 100,000 of the available seats.

Not knocking you Frank, just being logical, you've GOT to have binoculars and that's not a way to enjoy a football game IMHO.

As good as last weekends schedule was , this week ends CFB schedule has very few good matchups. This is one of the few I'll be watching. Close up on my Vizio Smart Flat screen lol.
I can't find one decent game after the RU game (3:30/4 slot) to watch until this Tenn v Va Tech game.

schedule:

IIRC a LOT of OOC matchups/FCS games this week.

I just did it 3 weeks ago after wanting to forever. You have to do it at least once (i'm gonna go back) it is awesome! There's no place else like it to watch a race. I tent camped for 4 nights in the Earhart Campground right next to the track and it was amazing(its $150 for the week no matter when you show up monday-saturday). Just a huge festival like party all week. In that campground alone there was a large music stage with trailer bars (a Jack Daniels bar, an AB/Inbev bar, etc..) around the outside of the field, but you can also go anywhere you want with your own cooler full of alcohol and open containers so no need to buy from the bars unless you really want a shot. They had free monster truck rides for anyone who wanted and motocross demos throughout the week. Carnival rides and games for kids (we didn't bring any). Best camping trip I've taken in a long time.

just added the above shot to show you what a multi day tailgate involves down there

It's an event, a happening. Folks will remember being there just because it happened. Doesn't matter what the views are like from the seats they'll just watch the big screen hanging over the middle of the field

Pretty cool to see on tv right now

Nobody said it's not an "event" and, yeah, it looks "cool" on TV. So do a great set of knockers on a stage, however, you'd rather take a good look at them from up close, right? Bottom line is that 75% (or more) of the seats are between 100 and 300 yards of midfield. YARDS, that is, not feet...[cheers]
